  1. Thank you, Akirby, for the suggestion. I was actually ready to go out and pick up some graphite after reading this. I had some free time last evening to study the problem better, however. It's definitely the ignition, but not a switch inside the key slot as I originally thought. It turns out that the key cylinder that turns inside the main ignition cylinder is being pulled out of the main cylnder as I take out the key. It's only being pulled out ever so slightly (about 2mm), but that's enough to cause the car to still think the key is in the ignition. All I have to do is push the inner cylinder back into place and it clicks back in and the chime goes away and the driver's seat retracks. I can reproduce and fix the problem at will now, so I'm 100% certain that this is the problem. Looks like the ignition unit in the stearing column needs to be replaced. Oh well, another trip to the dealer. There are other things that have been bothering me that I need to see them about anyway, like the constant faint high pitch noise that mysteriously comes and goes, a noisey unbalanced fan behind the passenger side front console, and unreliable seat/mirror memory settings, and a driver's seat that has a little give when I stop and go. I love my Ford Edge, but for a $39K MSRP vehicle, I'd expect better quality controll. My $15K ford focus of nine years was better built!
  2. I wanted to run this by the forum before I take my stock 2010 Edge Limited to the dealer in case someone has come across this problem and knows of a quick fix. About two weeks ago I noticed a chime when exiting the vehicle. At first I though I had accidentally taken the lights off the automatic setting and had them on, but that wasn't it. A few days later, it happened again, and again I tested the lights and even checked my liftgate and all the other doors to make sure they were completely closed. Everything was as it should, but the chime was still there when I took the key out of the ignition and opened the driver's door. The problem now is happening consistently and I think I have found the reason. It appears that the car thinks the key is still in the ignition. When I pull the key out, the driver seat no longer rolls back and the steering wheel no longer locks when I turn it slightly after taking the key out. In fact I can move the steering wheel, but without power steering. For the driver seat not rolling back I confirmed that the easy entry setting was not turn off by accident. It was still set to on. I toggled it off and back on, but that didn't help. The problem does go away every now and then, and when it does I can clearly hear and feel something sliding down and clicking into place inside the ignition as I'm taking the key out. At that point the car seat moves back and when I exit the vehicle there is no chime. There must be some sort of switch in the ignition that gets pushed out of the way as the key is inserted that tells the car the key is out of the ignition, and that switch my be stuck. Has anyone encountered this before and know if a quick fix not involving the dealer at least in the near term until I can find some time to see a dealer? Thanks!
  3. Update 6-27-2010 I played around with the fasteners in the front passenger side wheel well and noticed some were a bit loose. I gave all of them a little push before leaving on vacation where I put 650+ miles on the Edge and didn't here the rattling anymore!
  4. I can't wait to get home and look in the wheel well. I'm experiencing the same noise that started last week coming from the from passenger side everytime I went over a bump at highway speeds. I was going to have my fiancee drive around while I looked for the source, but I bet it's from the wheel well. I did wash the car last Friday and squirted the hose up in there, and this is about when the noise started. I let everyone know how it turns out.
  5. Wasn't going to have time to fiddle with with the console for another week or two. In the meantime, I received a letter with the 5 month deal for $23.XX including taxes and fees. I took this offer. Interesting enough, when they called me the week before that my free trial was set to expire, they would not budge from their standard pricing and wouldn't offer me any sort of discount. At $13/month + taxes and fees I can easily live without sat radio. Now at $5/month, I think that's reasonable. At the end of the 5 months, I guess I'll start pulling apart the concole to disconnect it, so I won't have to deal with the stupid nag screen. Thanks for eveyone's help.
  6. Hmm. That might work. At least I hope so. I'll start searching to find it's location and how to disconnect it.
  7. They finally fully deactivated my sirius subscription. Actually, I may have triggered the full deactivation myself. Last night while getting rid of the nag screen I went over a small bump and missed the close button and hit the dial button instead. I immediately canceled the call. After that the 50 or so Sirius channels and travel link no longer worked. It may have just been bad timing, but it could also be that sirius leaves these 50 teaser channels on to entice you to call them. Then when you do, the radio automatically disables them completely. If you reorder on the phone, Sirius sends the signal to turn on the radio. If you don't reorder then they don't have to do anything since your radio is disabled. In any case, I don't want Sirius radio. I like everyone else who has the navigation/entertainment system paid good money for it. There should be an option to turn off the SAT1/2/3 menus. They just get in the way especially with that nag screen. I think putting this annoying nag screen on the system without a way to turn it off is a slap in our faces.
  8. Thanks everyone for replying. I'm not fully deactivated (which is a plus). I do get this nag screen everytime I go into the SAT1/2/3 screens (which is a negative). What I want to know is if there is a way to get rid of the nag screen. As far as I can tell from searching this forum, no one else has asked about getting rid of the nag screen. For anyone who has canceled completly, does the nag screen go away eventually? If not, is there a way to hide the SAT1/2/3 menus from both the touch screen AND the steering wheel controls?
  9. I'm just curious as to what others have experienced when their 6 month Sirius trial ends. I was expecting mine to go out completely. Instead on the day that the subscription was to end, I lost some chanels and all the Sirius options are grayed out, but I still have 51 channels that work plus my travelink still works. I don't mind that and consider myself lucky as I only lost one channel that I listen to regularly. I expect all the channels and travelink will eventually go away, and I 'm fine with that. What bothers me is that if I go to the Radio screen and happen to go into SAT1, 2, or 3 screens a nag pop up comes up telling me that my subscription ended and to call their toll free number. I then have to dismiss this screen before I can interact with the touch screen further. Is there a way to turn this off? It's becoming very, very annoying!! I have a 2010 Edge Limited.
  10. Wow! Could changing the oil on my 2010 Edge Limited be any easier? I used to have a 2001 Ford Focus ZTS before the Edge. I had to deal with ramps and an ill placed oil filter that was slightly pointed downwards and hard to reach. Because it was slightly pointed downwards, the filter leaked lots of oil all over me and on to the right front axle as soon as I started to unscrew it. What a mess!! No matter how well I cleaned up the oil from the axle the inside of the car would smell like oil for a few days. Now, I just have to slide under the front bumber without the need for jacks or ramps. The oil filter is right there pointing straight up minimizing the amount of oil that leaks and there is nothing below it for the oil to leak onto! This alone makes this car worth it for me!
  11. Where abouts should I be looking? Does the BAMR need to be open to see the loose velcro? Update: Nevermind. I think I see the piece of trim you and securinu are talking about. I'll have to check it out later in the week when I have sime time and someone sitting in the back to help test this theory. If it's something I can fix myself great! Update 2: I pressed the piece of trim up against the glass and the rattling appears to have stopped. Thanks everyone! You saved me a trip to the dealer.
  12. Mine is a 2010 Limited as well with 2000 miles. I do not see any TSBs listed for this model, infact there are none for 2010 Edges listed yet. I will check out the trim as suggested above and most likely end up taking it to the dealer. Sigh...
  13. Whenever I open the Panoramic roof shade to let in light I hear a rattling sound when going over the smallest of bumps. It doesn't matter how far I open the shade. The sound only goes away when the shade is completely closed. It sounds like it could be a cable bouncing between the headliner and the actual body of the vehicle. Those of you with the Panoramic Roof, is this normal?

  15. Doesn't appear to work on my 2010 unless I'm missing something.
