  1. Hello all, I've been looking at the board for a few hours and figured I would join in. My wife and I are thinking of getting rid of her 2000 Ford Expedition EB and getting into something with a little better mpg. My wife and I are not into the dull econo boxes that are out there though, and we only want to spend 30K! for our taste and what we are looking for the Edge seems to fit the bill. I'm interested in the AWD with the 18" painted wheels (the ones that look like the BMW wheels, so you can see the brake rotor) we want black leather with the good sound system. We dont really have a need for sirius or nav and as cool as I think the Vista roof is, we cant use it because I'm active duty military so we move alot and need the roof racks (its a shame, i know) I guess the SEL should fit the bill but I was wondering if anyone got one for 30k with what I'm looking for?I really dont want to go higher than that. Thanks alot and hopefully I'll be an Edge owner within the next few months!

We got the sel plus on the x-plan for 31,000. If you are driving alot, I would reccomend the Sirius. I never thought I would use it, but I am addicted now and is great for road trips. People on the forum can probably help you get a "pin" number so you can use the X-plan.

  2. Don't blame us California people!!! We are not all like that. My wife and I bought ours from the same dealer Bleading Edge did and they were great. Galpin Ford is the dealship and they are always on the radio about selling the most vehicles in the nation. Its simple with the heat here. Open the friggin windows!! It isn't going to rain (only 3.5" this year) or watch the weather. Research your purchases better and calm down. Its pretty tough to see that huge glass roof and not ask to open and close it to see how it works. That is what turned us off on it. Go figure..... we actually noticed it before we got it home.....

  3. Just curious if others here have been contacted by Sirius yet (for those that have Sirius satellite radio, of course)?

We've had our Edge since the end of May, and haven't been contacted by them yet. The Sirius radio was functional when we took delivery of our car....maybe that's got something to do with it?

We bought ours in the end of April and still no word from Sirius either. Maybe they will forget to call and also forget to shut it off after the 6 months is up..

  4. My Edge has a shudder when brakeing ie: above 45mph mostly, it shakes the steering wheel and just doesn't seem to be right. I don't know if its the ABS or what the problem is. :stop:

You may have warped your front brake rotors. As you apply the brakes, it sends a shaking up through the wheel.

  5. Those two items were my initial thoughts, too. The service manager told me they disconnected the battery to turn the engine off. I don't know if I believe that or not, although my '93 Mustang won't continue running if the battery is disconnected. Of course, disconnecting the battery wipes out the short-term computer codes....

If you disconnect the ground it should stop. Pulling the ground cuts the ignition. Otherwise, the alternator will keep it running if the positive is unhooked. Same thing as jumping a dead battery. Once its started, it will run. God knows you can't work on the new vehicles without a scan tool anymore. Bad key switch maybe....???...

  6. I found a site with all the specs for the Edge. It lists the FWD and AWD with different drive ratios. Maybe the odometers are set differently and hers is not right. Its possible..... Should be filed under "MINOR ISSUE".

    Gear Ratios

    1st 4.484

    2nd 2.872

    3rd 1.842

    4th 1.414

    5th 1.000

    6th 0.742

    REV -2.882

Final Drive FWD: 2.77; AWD: 3.16

All you math whiz's figure it out, but I bet its close to the world ending problem.

  7. I've seen a number of formulas that calculate X-Plan. Does anyone know the definitive one? I'm also trying to figure out what other charges I would expect on a final bill.... advertising, delivery, taxes, administrative fees, registration, ...???

Basically I'd love to know, walking in to the dealership, what my final bill will look like.

Our SEL+ with Sirrius, chrome clad rims, and DVD etc had a sticker of $32,740. X-Plan price was $31.007. Plus tax and all that.

  8. We do have A/C but indeed the private bath would be nice, that's about all I would like, but then you have to deal with grey water too.... and they seem to be over twice as expensive.

Its a tough trade off Janis. You could sacrifice taking the Edge and opt for the bigger trailer, or you could use your Edge and find nice campgrounds. My parents are semi-retired and travel with a big 40ft motorhome and actually search out nice campgrounds with nice amenities so they don't have to use the ones in the RV. Mostly restrooms and showers. That tent trailer looks perfect to tow for the Edge. Find a nice clean campground and you have everything you need. I'm sure with your agility events, you have plenty of time to research some places to stay in advanced.

  9. We needed a vehicle to accomodate our new baby and the wifes Jetta just wasn't goint to work. Plus that thing was a time bomb ready to blow up. She was in love with the Murrano, but after looking at the Edge, GMC Acadia, Murrano and the CX-7, we chose the Edge. The look did it. I hate the feel of Nissans CVT(or lack of feel). CX-7 seemed small, etc. X-plan helped too!

  10. Unfortunately, you probably won't be able to get anything much bigger than a pop up trailer. You are towing with basically nothing more than a car. You probably could excede the total weight, but it is obviously not recomended especially if there are lots of hills. It strains the brakes and transmission even more trying to stop and pull more weight on hills. Plus a larger trailer can push the tow vehicle if stopping real hard or skidding. Lots of people without knowing overload their vehicles all the time and have nothing happen, but you actually caring about doing it right would be the one to have something go wrong.

  11. A bit of RTFM and I cam up with Page 206 from this link --->>> Online Edge Owners Manual

2000lbs max for a Class 1 hitch with 200lbs tongue weight max

3500lbs max for a Class 2 hitch with 3500lbs tongue weight max.

With that said, 8400lbs is the GCWR... that means that your Edge, your trailer, your passengers and anything in the vehicle/trailer combined should not be over 8400lbs.

    Bryce

Not a whole heck of alot left for your trailer figuring 4100 lbs for the vehicle itself plus people, cargo, and the weight of the trailer itself.

  12. I saw the class I listed under mecahnical in the Canadian brochure but when I asked it is optional. It is a mistake.

The Class II was $500 and gave you the hitch, heavier battery and cooling.

I went with the class II to take advantage of the battery and cooling mainly.

Good value with that I think.

I just checked the window sticker that I have in the garage and we also got the Class II. It was $350 and came with the same battery too. The sticker say "HD 68amp battery"..Wouldn't it be a 68amp alternator and maybe a heavy duty battery??

EDGEOPHILE---- It is perfect for a bike rack. We are going to use it for a slide in cargo rack. One road trip with the baby and need some extra space for the long trips.

  13. Ours came with the small hitch from the factory. It is a 1 1/4" shank which is good for 350 lbs tongue weight and 3500 lbs trailer. It won't tow much more than our Sea-Doo's. The factory one is smaller just to save space and not be so visible. The vehicle isn't rated for enough to really matter which hitch you use.

This site has a bunch of different ones for the Edge.

  14. Turbonetics will be developing a turbo kit for the Duratec 35 for this upcoming SEMA event. It will be fitted for Edge and Fusion!

"Yes, we do have an update. The kit will be developed for a SEMA show introduction, but there will not be anything to release publically until we get closer to September and the kit is completed. It looks as though we will have the Edge as well as the Fusion.

Stay in touch and I will do my best to feed you any info I can let out. "

W O W!! That will top my list for Santa!

  15. The wife and I did a trip to Vegas from LA last week to see her dad and averaged 23.4 mpg. Almost 600 miles round trip with some city driving. Freeway was 75-90 mph, 100-115 degrees and the AC cranking. Very happy with those results. We could have gotten better MPG but on the Interstate 15 you could get run over doing anything less than 80! The speed kills the gas usage.

  16. We got ours on the X-plan and it was the easiest purchase I've ever made. It wasn't as large of a discount as we expected, but the sales guy showed us the invoice which has the A and Z prices too. Those prices were not a whole lot less than the X price. He said that the plan prices are different on all the cars. For instance a Mustang or basic F-150 was like $5000 off for X-plan. The sticker on our SEL Plus was $32,740 and $31,007 price was. Not a bad discount for not having to argue back and forth for hours. We grinded them a little on the trade in of the wife's old Jetta and ended up getting a grand more than they originally offered. Also was 0.7% financing at the time. We probably could have saved a few more bucks, but not having to be there all day with a pregnant(at the time) wife was worth a ton of money.

  17. Congrats!!!!! My wife and I have a 1 month old and it is tough. You might need a less expensive payment just to pay for diapers and baby wipes let alone daycare. Being as dad is awesome!!! I would give up any vehicle for it. Good luck to you and your family. The Edge's will be around for you guys to pick up an '09.

Get used to little sleep :reading:

  18. That is what made us stay away from the panorama roof. It would be nice to have more options on it. We would have loved to open just the front and leave the rear closed to keep the sun off of the baby in back.

Nice to see someone else from LA on here. Where about are you?
