  1. Thanks for the response. I know that I can't get the dimmer function to work like the factory radio. I know that all I can do is get the aftermarket radio to accept a signal to dim it's lights and that I can't adjust it with the dash switch. I am ordering from crutchfield so they'll send me the wiring harness and the adapter kit(s) to make the unit fit. So there isn't a wire back there that will trigger a 12V signal to when the lights come on? I know that's all I need to make the unit dim. I have a DMM and can find a wire, I was just asking here so that I wouldn't have to go through the trouble :yup:
  2. I"m getting ready to buy and install a new stereo. I think I"m getting the Kenwood DDX 514 along with some Polk speakers. I am getting a wiring harness but from reading through the forums, there isn't a dimmer wire going to radio wiring harness so I need to tap it from somewhere else. I'm very comfortable doing installation work. I've been messing around with it for over 20 years. I just figured I'd ask here and save myself some trouble :-). I was thinking about tapping one of the wires that goes to the AC control. Surely there's a wire there that controls illumination of the gauges. I could just wire up a toggle, but I want the radio to dim automatically with the lights. Any help would be awesome!
  3. I still need to figure out how to cover up the cubby and leave it still looking good. I don't want it to stick out like a sore thumb. I've been checking junk yards but no one around here an edge in their yards.
  4. Thanks but I'm going to change out the stock sub and use an aftermarket amp
  5. No, I didn't get the amp because I was planning on replacing the stock sub with a shallow mount 8" and running a larger amp with it. I just don't know what to do with the panel that covers it.
  6. Ok, I think I bought something too quickly before thinking, LOL. I just bought the factory subwoofer enclosure (and sub). I've got an SEL without the audiophile setup. So, my question is, I know I can just screw it in there, but what about the trim panel that installs over it? I know with the factory setup, that cubby is not there and there is speaker grill cloth there. Has anyone added a sub to an edge without the sub and what have you done? Any suggestions?
  7. Thanks for the reply. I figured it out. And yes, it does just pull up.
  8. I just got my '08 last Friday. On the 4.5 hour ride home all interstate, I got 23 MPG. Then on the next tank, it was mixed 50/50 highway/city and I got 19 MPG. So I expect all city driving to dip to around 15 MPG. Oh, I have an SEL AWD by the way.
  9. My first post!!! I just got my '08 SEL the other day and there is something rattling inside the center console. I wanted to remove the cup holders to see if I could see anything. Can I just pull up on it and it will come loose? In the picture, it's #1....thanks for your help!
