  1. Nothing wrong with keeping the rear speakers if you like em. Remember, in the end its all about YOUR ears. Youre the one paying for everything. :D
  2. You may just have to put up with them coming on. They dont really bother me. Look at it this way, itll help you find your car in a crowded parking lot. :D
  3. Glad to hear they figured it out and thanks for posting the update. Mine being a FWD and not having a transfer case, that aint gonna be my problem. I guess Im gonna have to break down and figure out a way to get mine over there for a day.
  4. Where did you find the leak? Mine is doing the same thing so Im interested in this. You said in the middle of the truck, does that mean youve got the AWD model?
  5. Wow. Now thats what I call a procedure! Wonder why they just didnt put a little switch on the dash that would shut that off instead? Ill never understand engineers. LOL!
  6. Man, 27 mpg! Thats outstanding - especially now that gas is creeping up around $3 a gallon. Figures it would do that as soon as I trade my 34 mpg Honda Accord in on a V6 SUV.
  7. Try running front speakers only. That is the ideal set up from a pure sound quality stand point. Having the same frequencies coming at you from different distances, you have the same frequencies hitting your ears at different times which can cause cancellation and phase issues. The fewer speakers you have playing the better. And I totally agree - DLS speakers are the shiznit! Team DLS have some of the best sounding cars in the competition lanes. Eddie DeJesus' S-10 is the best sounding car audio system Ive ever heard - he's running DLS Nobellium series speakers. If I could afford them Id be running them too. Id love to get a sponsorship, boy oh boy would I, but theyre very picky about who they hand those out to.
  8. I dont know brother, Ive worked in the distribution/transportation business for about 15 years and its up to us to get our products into these stores. Walmart doesnt know when 1 of their 5,000 vendors comes out with a new product line - thats for the vendor to submit in to them. Now Ive never worked with auto parts so maybe it is different but I think it is probably the same. From what I can tell, the few manufacturers so far that make a FL500 filter has them in the stores except for Ford so it does appear to be simply a case of Ford keeping this particular filter in the dealerships only. What Ford is doing isnt illegal or even unusual - it happens all the time in a lot of different fields and it makes good business sense. If the dealership is the only place I can buy a filter for my new car Ill have to do it and they can sell it at a higher price AND not have to pay a retailer. I totally get it, but since I got bit by it this time, Im gonna grumble about it some. Not the end of the world. All of that being said, it doesnt really matter because my intention with this thread was simply to give everybody a heads up about the filter change. Thats it. It was NOT to blame anybody for anything and it wasnt an anti-Ford rant. Im a huge Ford fan and will continue to be. But youre right, it has started to devolve and thats my fault - Im usually pretty good at ignoring trolls. So from here on out, consider all trolls ignored.
  9. Um..yeah genius, Ford is to blame for them not selling their Motorcraft filters anywhere but the dealer. It's their product. They control what and to where their products gets distributed. They sell all their other size filters at every auto parts store. When they come out with a new size filter it takes a while for the aftermarket to catch up (which is why there are virtually no 500 size filters out there) so if the only place you can buy a filter is at the dealer, they can charge you a lot more ($11 vs $3). Now that aftermarket filters are starting to get to retail, Ill bet you'll start seeing the Motorcraft FL500 filters in auto parts stores before too long.
  10. Feel free to point out where I blamed Ford for anything other than not selling the filter in Walmart like they do all their others. Maybe you should actually read the posts before you start trolling.
  11. Moving the tweeter up to the A pillars makes a pretty noticeable difference. Higher frequencies are very directional and the ones the tweeters play are like laser beams. Also with those frequencies, the more on axis they are increases their intensity. So the tweeters in the left door down low and at nearly 90 degrees off axis, are much more muted than the ones across from you at only 20 degrees off axis. By moving them up to the A pillars, you can angle them in more which helps their sound even out more. The biggest advantage to moving them up is in raising the soundstage. Higher frequencies are what your brain keys on for imaging cues. Almost all voices and instruments have mid AND high frequencies so when a guitar string is plucked, the brain keys in on the high frequencies coming from the A pillars and "sees" the image at eye level as opposed to down in your lap. Do NOT put an enclosure around your aftermarket speakers. First off, theyre designed to work in free air. Boxing them in with a tiny enclosure like that will drastically choke off the sound especially in the low end. Youll kill your midbass response. Secondly, dont worry about the elements. Aftermarket car speakers are designed to withstand some moisture. Heck, a lot of them can be used on boats! Thats why theyre cones are NOT made out of paper nor are the surrounds. Theyre made out of polypropolyne (Im sure I misspelled that LOL) and rubber which is very durable and so long as youre not turning a garden hose on them, dont worry about them.
  12. I dunno bro. I drove out to Texas 3 days after buying my 2010 new off the lot. When we left we had 250 miles on the clock and like I said in my post, we got 3-4 mpg more coming back with 1800 more miles on the odometer. And now with over 3,000 miles on it, Im getting 22 mpg combined freeway and city driving. The owners manual even states not to calculate fuel mileage until after 3000 miles. I dont know if this proves anything or not, I coulda hit a big tailwind coming back but its interesting.
  13. Yup, you got me. Guilty as charged. I didnt check the owners manual to make sure that the oil filter used on all the previous models with the same identical engine had been randomly changed. Thanks for the link. I figure Ford will have the 500's in store before too long since they have all their others there but if not, Ill just stick to the Wix at Oreilly's. Its as good if not a better filter anyway and it can be my own little protest against Ford. :D
  14. Please report back what your dealer says. Its a hassle for me to get mine down there as my wife works fulltime also so I keep putting it off. Plus from everything Ive read, they wind up keeping the car for 3 weeks, changing out the entire front suspension and still cant find a fix. LOL! Im thinking of just driving it until something finally snaps into so they'll know for sure what it is.
  15. The reason I thought the old filter would fit was because the 07-09 filter is the same and since the 2010 model has the exact same engine I figured it would use the same filter. When I bought my oil, none of the catalogs went passed the 2009 model so I guessed. That wasn't the problem really, I was more ticked that you can't find the right filter anywhere but the dealer at $11 instead of selling them at Wal-Mart for $3 like all their others. I like Motorcraft and think its quality stuff, especially their oil, so I want to keep using it (especially as long as I have a 75,000 mile bumper to bumper warranty) but as long as Ford only sells the FL500 at the dealer for 3X what they would run In Wal-Mart, I'll keep buying the Wix from Oreillys.
  16. Hey guys, wanted to give a heads up to anyone that doesnt know - the oil filters for 2007-2009 will NOT fit a 2010. Whats worse is the only ones you can find in stores are crappy ones like Supertech at Walmart or STP at Autozone. Oreilly has a Wix which isnt half bad but youll have to go to your Ford dealer to buy the proper Motorcraft one which is a FL500S I believe. Fram, K&N and others make filters thatll fit but they have to be special ordered, at least in my neck of the woods. I bought the FL400S Motorcraft at Walmart today and after dumping all my oil and unscrewing my filter, I discovered it wouldnt fit.....and it was 8:45 PM. So my Edge will spend the night in the garage with no oil in it til tomorrow when I will go to the ONE store nearby that has a Wix thatll fit. This is the stupidest crap Ive ever heard.
  17. No, mine feels more like something along the lines of a motor mount. When you take off from a dead stop or a very slow coast, it feels like something was loose or something. The transmission is fine. Actually it stopped yesterday. Im hoping it fixed itself.
  18. I was wondering if anybody found anything out about this, mine is doing the same thing. When I accelerate from a stop or after slowing down, about every 3 times I feel and hear a "clunk". I thought it might be an engine mount but after looking around online it might be the transmission. Mine seems to be coming from the front and from left of center. Its a huge PITA to go to the dealer and I was hoping to find some info online before I did.
  19. I just got back from a trip out to Texas and with 250 miles on the odometer I averaged 21-22 mpg. On the way back a week later with 1500 miles, I got 23-25!! Granted thats 100% freeway driving with the cruise set at 72 mph.
  20. Yeah I agree with this. I too am guilty of this. I used $12 Mobil 1 filters and Mobil 1 oil in 4 of my last cars. None of them did I keep longer than 95,000 miles. So felt kinda stupid spending nearly $50 per oil change to protect an engine I wouldnt be keeping more than 3 years. My new Edge I do plan on keeping for up to 150,000 miles cause we recently bought a house AND had a baby so trading cars every couple years is a thing of the past. Still, I will stick with Motorcraft 5w20 and Motorcraft filter. Bobistheoilguy.com has tons of used oil analysis reports on MC 5w20 and it always comes in as one of the better oils. And considering Ill be doing 3,000 mile oil change intervals, I think Ill be just fine with it for 150,000 miles. I figure what oil could be better than one actually designed specifically for the car youre driving by the guys that designed and built your car?!
  21. Were those 6x8's a drop in install? I thought those stockers were 5x7. If theyre 6x8's that would be awesome as I could maybe fit some 6.5's in there.
  22. Sorry for bringing an old thread back to life but I found this forum by searching around about this very same question. I too was playing around with what oil to use, Motorcraft versus Mobil 1, 5w20 versus 5w30 and so on. This one line above slapped me back into reality especially since I opted for the extended, 75,000 mile warranty. 5w20 Motorcraft it will be for me. :D However I dont think I could sleep at night doing 7,500 mile oil change intervals so Ill do them at 3,750 for a little more peace of mind.
  23. Hi guys! Just bought a 2010, white SE and absolutely love it! Bought it on the 8th and drove it to Texas on the 12th for vacation. Hands down the most comfortable car Ive ever owned. Out of a 15 hour drive, at least 13 hours felt like I was driving a couch. LOL! Will definitely be keeping this baby around. Im a pretty big car audio guy and compete in MECA (Mobile Electronic Competition Association) pretty seriously over the last 5 years and while I havent torn into my new Edge yet hopefully I can contribute around here in the audio department.
