  1. My Edge has 170K on it- Again it's been happening for a while now, but it's getting louder under a heavier throttle. It's not as bad when it's cold but as it gets warmer you can definitely hear it.
  2. Good morning- I have a 2008 Ford Edge with the 3.5L V6 and I've been hearing this noise coming from the right side of the motor for some time now, but I noticed lately it's getting louder under a heavier throttle. It sounds like when the defrost/ac compressor when it is on and under load, but a majority of the time the A/C or defrost is off, so it's still happening. Anyone have any ideas? Water Pump maybe? Thanks Matt
  3. Ahh, you might be right on that logic! I think that's the issue. Thanks Matt
  4. Good morning- All three of these lights came on when I was on the highway this morning- I'm assuming it's a speed sensor or something. All three came on, stayed on for about 5 minutes, then the ABS and traction control turned off, then eventually the wrench went away. Am I right on that line of thinking that it might be the TSS/OSS sensors? Thanks Matt
  5. Yeah, I did get the OEM driveshaft installed- I would want OEM for that versus after market.
  6. I can confirm its a driveshaft issue. I don't know if it's a bearing but I know it's shot. $1000 repair.
  7. The sound is coming from the right side towards the wheel. At first I thought it was a flat tire. No loss of power.

  9. I didn't hear a whine or any grinding sound- just the vibration and like I was driving on a rumble strip. The plugs were changed last summer- the PCV valve hasn't been changed yet- should that be done? My edge has 145K miles on it. This occurred when I would drive and start up the faster I went.
  10. I was driving home from work and I got off the highway and all of a sudden I was getting this bad rumbling sound like I either have a flat or I'm driving on a rumble strip. The tire is not flat and when I hit 25/30mph is when the rumble happens again. I think it might be a total PTU failure but I'm not sure. Any ideas?

  12. It's funny you should mention that, I did get down by the left wheel well last night and I noticed the tiny faint smell. It's not bad, but it is there. I'm sure the cabin filter is due for a change as well. It's the original one.
  13. Ahh, I know the feeling on the TSS/OSS sensors. I had 75 miles to drive home to when that reared it's ugly head. No fun!
  14. Well I had my Edge checked and it's dry as a bone underneath, so it's not the PTU, which is a relief. It might be an interior cabin smell or something else- I've had everything else checked and no leaks, so that's good. It's still very annoying having to deal with this over and over again, but at least it's not leaking. I'll keep checking the seals to watch for leaks.
  15. It's the same gear lube oil smell similar to a PTU- I had the repairs done at the Ford dealership where I bought the truck. Unfortunately I don't know the part number without getting out the paperwork for it. It looks like I'll be bringing it somewhere else this time. This is it for me and this vehicle and Ford- I'm done.
  16. So I've been noticing that smell....the smell of a PTU staring to go. This will be the fourth time that my PTU will either have to be repaired or replaced- It's been replaced three times already in 6 years. is it possible that the seals just need to be replaced or am I looking at a complete tear down and rebuild? This is so infuriating that I can't describe the anger I have. Matt
  17. Thanks for the info folks! Yes, I just had the plugs changed out over the summer. The gas mileage is the same before and after which is disappointing. I don't drive a lot to get back and forth to work- it's 50/50 on highway/city street driving, so the two kinda offset each other on the mileage. The crappy mileage has been like this since I had it fixed. About a week or two, I heard the clunk noise getting off the highway but I haven't heard it since. Other than that, it's been fine. Thanks again- Matt
  18. Good afternoon- Kind of a random question. I had my TSS & OSS sensors changed last December as both crapped out on the highway, and of course it was 80 miles from home.....good times. When the two sensors went, the wrench light came on, the speedo was down to nothing and the motor was stuck in a kinda low gear, I'm assuming to protect itself or something of that ilk. Anyway, I had the two sensors changed and everything was fine. My question is, is that since my truck went into that fail safe mode, I believe I read somewhere on this forum that I need to take off the battery connectors to reset the PCU, then put them back on and then I should be good to go? I thought you needed to reset the PCU in order to get it out of that "safe" mode. I maybe loosing my mind, and that's certainly not out of the question, but I thought it had to be done. It hasn't as of yet, and I'm wondering if that has something to do with the crappy gas mileage I'm getting. Thanks Matt
  19. How old is the battery? Mine stopped working when the battery was starting to get old.
  20. Are there any updates on this? I have this similar issue as well, but it doesn't happen very often.
  21. Hey everyone- I haven't replaced the #5 coil yet on my 2008 Edge- I agree that I would notice it right away if there was an issue, and lately it's been running better. I've been using high octane gas in it and it seems to be running better other than bad gas mileage. It's ironic that when I had the TSS & OSS sensors replaced back in December that all of a sudden my gas mileage is worse than what it was before. Could it be just coincidence that since it was repaired that it is running richer now and based on the new sensors? Also, I hear sometimes what sounds like the defrost condenser on when I take off from a red light, but the defroster is not on. The sound comes from the right side of the motor. This has been happening since I got it fixed in December as well. I love my truck but it's getting to the point that I want to sell it since I'm tired of the frustrations with it. Between the three PTU seals that I needed to get fixed, then the TSS & OSS sensors, a new muffler, since the old one was starting to fall off due to Ford's ineptitude to not put a separate hanger to take the weight off of it, has kinda got me at wits end. I'm afraid to take it on longer trips just based on the unreliability with it.
  22. Good morning- So I've been reading about people running into issues with the TSS & OSS speed sensors on their Ford Edge's and when they have it fixed, they are still running into some issues. Mainly between 40-60 mph there seems to be some hesitation and old Edge "clunk" might be heard as well as other issues. A lot of people have been mentioning that the #5 coil might be the culprit with this issue, which I think I have. It's clunked once since I had it fixed back in December 2014, but I've also noticed the terrible gas mileage that I've been getting with it as well, worse than what it usually is. My question is, and from what I've heard it's not that hard, is how hard is it to replace it? I have the necessary tools and such, it's just a matter of I've never done it, so I want to get some advice on it. Also, does anyone have a part number for it? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Matt
  23. I'm guessing that your rotors are warped, and that's what is causing the vibration, as I have the same thing.
