  1. Good day, I want to change the battery in my 2010 Edge. Part of the battery is under the front cowl. In order to remove the battery will I need to remove or move the lid of the air box which looks to be in the way to slide and lift the battery out. Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks

  2. I slightly bent one of my plastic chrome wheel covers on my 2011 Ford Edge SEL. My fault, I gotta pay to replace it.

So I go to the dealer to see how badly this is going to hurt. I ask the parts guy, "How much to replace the chrome plastic wheel cover on my Edge?" He rolls his eyes, he has been through this before. "Um, well, you have to replace the whole wheel. I stare at him. "What?"

The wheel cover is "bonded" to the wheel. You can't get it separately. $768.12, plus mounting and balancing. But they will give you back $50 for the old wheel. They will recycle it for you." How sweet and Green of Ford.

    I stare.

They go on to explain what a great engineering design it is. "Putting chrome on the wheel this way saves weight and cost. It improves your MPG."

Yeah well, I think it is a calculated money grab by Ford to make sure you spend $800 bucks, instead of $80, or $150, for something %60+ of owners are going to damage sometime in the car's life. I do not think it was an engineering design at all, but a purposeful design to extract as much money from their clients after they purchase the car.

Now I know how they could avoid the bailout, by building in a crazy expensive design that screws their clients.

    Nice Ford!

For the cost of replacing one wheel and a bit more why not go aftermarket on all 4 corners or try the recylers

  3. Hello everyone. The time has come for me to replace my 20" Ford edge tires. Presently I have on Pirelli Scorpion tires. I think that is exactly what I have identified on the link

    http://www.ebay.com/itm/4-NEW-245-50-20-PIRELLI-SCORPION-STR-50R20-R20-50R-TIRES-/310351476251?_trksid=m7&_trkparms=algo%3DLVI%26itu%3DUCI%26otn%3D3%26po%3DLVI%26ps%3D63%26clkid%3D6941296937690302965

However as u can see in the little application this supplier has it says that the tires are not compatible with the Ford Edge. I also found these other Goodyear tires

    http://www.ebay.com/itm/4-NEW-245-50-20-GOODYEAR-EAGLE-RS-A-50R20-R20-50R-TIRES-/190610716179?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&fits=Section+Width%3A245|Aspect+Ratio%3A50|Rim+Diameter%3A20&hash=item2c6148b613&vxp=mtr

Is the page doing a mistake or basing it on standard smaller tires and are these really compatible? Also if so which do you think is best. Is the extra price worth it for the Pirelli? Thanks all I appreciate the help.

    Have you tried http://www.tirerack.com

  4. I opted for the ecoboost option, which is totally awesome. We have only had it 3 days though. We have allready seen 32 mpg on the highway and its not even broke in yet. I did alot of research before buying the ecoboost motor and ive read alot of info of people stating upwards of 36 on the highway with the ecoboost motor. After seeing 32 mpg yesterday im a believer! Ecoboost all the way!!!!!!

Maybe better MPG with the eco boost but turbos require high maintenance $$$ and can be expensive to repair if or when they fail after the warranty runs out.

Just me but not a fan...just sayin...

  5. Was on a bit of a road trip again this weekend, 400 mile round trip, and on the return leg with cruise set at 110km/hr (posted limit is 100) managed a consistent 8.7L/100km mpg, or just over 27mpg. I can live with that for an AWD V6 :) .

8.7L/100KM is about 33MPG......thats imperial gallons not U.S. gallons. it would be about 27MPG in U.S. gallons.

  6. Pretty soon, we will be considering a 2013 SEL (Ginger Ale or Mineral Gray w/ charcoal interior). However, one of the things that kind of ruffles my feathers is that the option that I desire (HIDs) is bundled into a package with an option that I don't want (BAMR) and only sold on the Limited. Please, Ford. Listen to your consumers and unbundle the HIDs unless you want us to go aftermarket.

a marketing ploy to get you to buy more car than you want or need. just like cable providers, bundle crap channels with the one you just want. nothing will ever change.

  7. Interesting, especially the fuel economy numbers, which are even more interesting in view of the current Honda issue. The other thing that surprised me was the quoted numbers for the Venza. When I looked for my 2010 (in Canada) there was NO way the Venza prices were even close to the Edge (There were still offers on the Edge).

also looked at the Vemza here in Canada and no way was the price close to the Edge, Venza a lot less across the border?

  8. I bought the Nifty Catch- all mats for my 11, they fit and look great. I like that they are carpet, they catch all moisture and are easy to clean. They look much better than the huskys or weathertechs. They were 87 bucks from Amazon.

Picture of the mat, doesn't look like it would catch water especially those of us in the snow belt, looks like water would run off the mat and onto the carpet unless the carpet catches the water?

  9. Hello, everyone.

I'm now the owner of a new 2012 Edge. It's my first new vehicle. Took care of the wife and the kids, so now it's finally my turn!

I decided to purchase all of the Perma Plate coatings -- Paintguard, Fiberguard, Leatherguard, Soundguard, and Rustguard. I am getting the full 7-year plan.

I normally keep a vehicle for at least 10 years, so I figured I would start off on the right foot. I've never been religious about washing my cars, certainly not so for waxing them.

How well does the Soundguard block roadnoise, etc?

Can I really expect the Paintguard to keep my car looking new for 7 years?

Anyone have any opinions on any of the products?

    Thanks!!

What product are they using for the soundguard? what areas are they using it in? The rustguard might be the same as the soundguard? Paintguard- not sure if any paint guard will make your car look the same 7 years from now. I never buy any dealer up sells as it can be bought cheaper at different detail shops etc.

  10. I'm not in love with the long antenna. Did a search and didn't find anything so I'm curious if anyone has tried anything else, perhaps like these? Is there a functional reason NOT to replace the stock antenna?

For the record I do not have navi or a Sirius subscription if that matters. I had a 350Z at one time and has the same issue. A common fix by Z owners was to take the shorty antenna from an S2000 or Element and replace it - result was a 'that's how it should have came from the factory' look.

search ebay stubby antenna, I have one from one of the suppliers there, works as the OEM, I do not have sirius or nav

  11. I think if you stay with a newer 2.5" you'll be fine. I had originally played around with an old laptop HDD that was a 40GB in an enclosure but it didn't always power off the bus. The others that I have been using were powered off the bus without issues and ranged in size from 160-750GB. I did have one drive that came with a dual ended USB cable so you could get power off of two ports but I never needed it. Overall all the newer drives worked fine...when MFT decides it wants to play nice.

But where the hell did you find a 1TB flash drive for $50? I have only seen the one from Swiss Army that was released at CES and the list price is 3k!

A 1000GB in a flash drive, show us a link to the drive...I am sure its an error on your part...but look here

  12. Just back from a 15,000km trip. The first long one in the Ford Edge. All systems worked like a charm (except the clock/gps sync, which I have had trouble with from the beginning). Combination driving, mostly Trans Canada Highway, and Interstate driving (Average speed 70-75mph) with some city driving in Ottawa, Toronto, Washington DC, Fort Myers and points in between I got 8.9litres per 100km which I believe is around 27 - 28mpg. As for the Nav system, which I have been very critical in the past, did show great promise if the maps could be updated (I was off road many times, even in larger centers). To answer a couple questions above, I ran the Garmin 3490 (most up to date model) side by side with the Ford Nav. The 3490lmt (lifetime maps & traffic) traffic updates worked great and gave updates up to 200km away. Voice options worked great on the Garmin. The Edge Nav showed a slight lag but not to the point where a turn could be missed. The speech option for destinations, POI's, addresses etc. left a lot to be desired...actually I had to give up using it completely. The Junction Views with the split screen worked great. When the Ford Nav maps get updated and maybe a faster boot time I believe a lot of customers will be happy with the system, especially the large screen. Until I see those improvements I will definitely not leave home without my portable gps.

Your 8.9L/100KM is about 31MPG Imperial gallons, I did a Florida trip from Toronto and was getting in the mid 30MPG, all highway, at fill up info said I could get 800Kilometers on the tank if I stay at the highway speeds I was doing, not bad for a car full of luggage, driver and passenger.

    2010 FWD,

  13. Well, had a chance to compare the Huskys to the Weather techs. The WTs fit and look way better. The Huskys fit OK and will do a very good job protecting the carpet so I'm gonna keep them unless I find a good deal on the WTs. I would also say that the Huskys are a great deal at less then half the price of the WTs.

I have the WT and the only thing I dislike is they don't cover the dead peddle area, Does the Huskys?..... I brought this up with WT but not sure they are listening or care?, the other thing I don't like is the price. other than the 2 short falls WT do a great job.

  14. Yes and Yes. But does your portable GPS have a 8" screen with integrated voice control?

Megellan GPS 7" There are some makes that have voice control, I think? some with free map and traffic updates, does Ford offer free maps and traffic updates? only disadvantage is the windshield suction mount, but there are mounts for the vents which would be better than the suction cup. All for a large lower price than what Ford charges.

  15. Exactly. The OP specifically asked for opinions so that's what he/she got.

If you are asking what we or me think of the wheels-rims I can't say they look good, what are the tires elastic bands? the ride must be awful. Hit one big pot hole and a bent rim might occur. Just my opinion, its your vehicle. Enjoy...and no flaming please...
