How To Play USB Tracks In Order 2024 Edge SEL
Ronno6 replied to Ronno6's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
I guess the SYNC 4 system is NOT an MP3 player. More of a data reader?? Files that would play perfectly in an MP3 player would NOT play properly if there existed ANY inconsistency in file names/tags, etc. As an example, if a track is missing a capital letter in its name that is present in all other tracks, it will not play in order.... If a track is missing a 0 in front of the track #, it will not play in sequence....... Really makes setting up audiobook files way too tedious.... Combining all tracks on a CD into 1 really simplifies the process. As long as the flash drive remains plugged in to the slot between drives, the SYNC will remember the stopping point, and resume there when accessed again........ A bit of a learning curve.......... -

The ultimate solution came in ripping each CD as 1 track using a ripping program. Fill in ONLY Title and Artist and disc #/sequence ala 1/5; 3/5 etc. Rip in Windows 11 to: Music\Audiobooks\ A file name for the Author will be automatically assigned. After ripping, go to an MP3Tag editor and give each disc a name of your choosing, Title and Author. That's all that is really needed, until you add multiple books by the same author. I set up a separate file for each book in the author folder.... For books that I downloaded using Windows Media Player, I import each CD's tracks into Audacity, combine the tracks into 1, then export to the Audiobooks folder. Edit the MP3 tags for each disc with Disc Name, Title and Author. Delete any other info. The initial playback issues arose due to inconsistent metadata/MP3 tagging. This information is user contributed, and seems that no 2 users use the same, consistent format. For example, one will say "Vile, Impregnated Salt Tablets;" another will say" Impregnated Salt Tablets, Vial," you get the drift. If the track information did not match EXACTLY to every other one, including spaces, dashes, capitalization, etc, the tracks will NOT play in order in the SYNC system............. -
Great! Thanks..... Except.... My Edge does not display a "1" The full oval is comprised of 2 arrows, both of which make a U-turn and part of each long side (top/bottom) . The song repeat mode only has the U-turn arrow with the long leg at the bottom......... As my audiobook CD's are ripped as 1 track, I guess both symbols would achieve the same result. The double arrow buttons are dual function as well.................

The manual lists he replay button, an oval symbol, either on or off. But, pushing repeatedly will give a horizontal U-turn option. What is that, and what does it do?

USB CD Player For 2024 Ford Edge SYNC4
Ronno6 replied to Ronno6's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
Actually, I have cycled back to the flash drive USB method. I rip each audiobook CD as a single track, and give minimal ID tag information..... Book Title, Author and disc # of the set. Rip as 1 track, then add a name for each disc using an MP3Tag editor. Tracks and discs play in order now. A bit more tedious to copy to the flash drive, but much easier to use in the Edge. No cumbersome CD's to fidget with...... -

USB CD Player For 2024 Ford Edge SYNC4

I am not sure that any Bluetooth device will work with SYNC 4 Do BT CD players have the "Pairing" function? Do they need to have one? Much I do not know. Seems to me that somewhere I informed that only devices compatible with Apple Carplay will connect... -
Is there a USB connectable CD player that will work in my 2024 Edge w/SYNC 4 ?? We like to listen to audio books when traveling. I have tried ripping to USB flashdrives, and have had some success. Getting all MP3 tags in order is very tedious and time consuming. But, i find playback to be tedious and extremely distracting. i have loaded on MP3 players and that plays OK, but, again, distracting. And the only usable way to play the MP3 player thru the stereo is by using an FM modulator to transmit to the Edge radio. Plugging in a suitable CD player would make things much easier............or, even an in-dash unit..

Maybe I am on to something...... I read that SYNC 1 & 2 use the FAT32 filing system on USB, whereas SYNC 3 & 4 use exFAT.............. Would that make a difference in the way files formatted in FAT32 are organized and read by the SYNC 3 & 4 systems?? -

I have ripped and copied 2 AB to a flash drive, with different results. The first book has 5 discs, and they all went into the same folder. I can start at D-01 T-01 and play continuously thru to the last track on the last disc. Dunno haw I did that. It is kinda nice... The second one copied each disc to a separate folder..... That one will play all the way thru Disc 1, but not move on to disc 2 automatically........ Sometimes, If I play the last track on a disc, and open the Edge menu and tap "Play All" it will move onto the next disc. Most times, it cycles back to the first AB, D-10, T-01....... I have a difficult time dealing with inconsistency... I guess I will just have to advance to the next disc manually.... -

At the risk of speaking too soon........... Itunes seems to be doing the job of ripping the CD's and moving to a USB thumb drive. Tracks and discs are playing in order... The acid test is being copied now... a book w/10 discs. Hopefully, disc 10 will not play immediately after disc 1... I believe itunes is labeling them 01, 02 etc....... -

Thank you. Only the 3rd link would come up. The other 2 gave me the following: The page isn’t redirecting properly Firefox has detected that the server is redirecting the request for this address in a way that will never complete. This problem can sometimes be caused by disabling or refusing to accept cookies. I was unable to open in Google Chrome also... -

All this would be unnecessary if there is a CD player that interface with the Edge SYNC 4 hardware..... I tried one initially, but the Edge would not recognize it......... -

Looks like the FM Modulator thingy is gonna be the ticket. Once I backed out of the garage the static abated greatly. 87.9 is a clear frequency country-wide. As long as there aren't stations on 88.1 it shouldn't see any interference. The modulator only has about 2hrs run time, so I need to get a suitable power cord. I would prefer to plug it in at the power-only ports at the rear of the console, which I believe are USB-C and the FM unit is mini-USB..........geeeeeeeeeezzzzzzz..... Apparently loading the discs onto the iphone requires Apple Music, another $11.00/month....... no, thank you... -

AHA !! I have identified 1 anomaly with playing the MP3 tracks. The audio book in question has 5 discs............disc 1,2,and 3 have author name and book title. Discs 4 and 5 are listed as "Unknown Artist" That screws things up alphabetically....... Even tho I had named the individual discs, I did not rename the tracks...... I am ripping to Apple itunes in an effort to copy to my iphone. The itunes lists the author and book name for disc 4, and 5 Maybe it is grabbing the metadata automatically?? Hoping that'll work.......... -

I wonder......... Mr Pete may have given me a clue... Would an Ipod nano or other model play using the AppleCarPlay in the SNC4? I copied a disc to itunes, then downloaded onto a flash drive....same problems play 1,2,3. jump to 5, then play 5,6,7, skip 8...... I can sync that to my iphone and see if that works.... -

Hi, Pete, I have tried a Sansa Clip+, another cheap player from Azamon, and a 2 different flash drives. When connected to the USB port, they all mis-played the same. However, both MP3 players will play tracks and discs properly thru headphones. The SYNC4 would start playing without any command, and all devices would begin playing the same audio book, even tho it is way down on the list. I'm sure that the main problem resides with the ID tags. I do not know how to manage those. When I attempted to move books from my PC to itunes, the 5 disc book only transferred the first 3 discs.. Maybe I can rip the CD's to itunes, then copy to my iphone........ -

Success...well, sort of........ The FM modulator thingy works, but is prone to static. This is due to the antenna being the little shark fin that sits atop the roof in the rear..... In fairness, I tested while parked in the garage. Dunno if that causes a problem or not......... Also, I had tuned to the bottom of the FM dial....87.9 or so. Maybe a higher frequency would be better?? One other option: moving the FM modulator further to the rear with a 3.5mm plug extender cable. Bugaboo there is,the need to pull it back up front to turn off/on. This is getting tiresome..... I have even attempted to learn how to load onto my iphone. But....(ALWAYS a but..) That pesky book that loses disc 4 and 5 does so..AGAIN...when i copy from PC to itunes I just can't win........... -
Yessir. WB Interestingly, my 1997 F-150 is also Oxford White, and has paint code WB....
-
I will need to paint the key lock bezel for my 2024 Edge. The color code is WB, which translates to Oxford White. However, Dupli-Color presented a challenge. Their Ford Oxford White is not code WB. Their Ford WB is a Performance White or something of the sort. Comparing the paint caps to the car showed that Oxford White is the better match...

Well, THAT didn't work,either..........grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr Apparently the Sybc4 system has no provision for a dumb AUX port via USB...... Seems that this 'smart" system is smarter than I...... OK On to the FM transmitter adapter.........
