Edge Door Rust

edge1217

Just noticed some rust forming on the inside of the right rear passenger door on my 9 month old Edge Limited. Crap!

Edgieguy, do you have door rust too? Look at the thread I posted in Body Panels a few weeks ago. Today "shantz" posted and provided a link to a thread he created a couple of years ago with the same problem on his '11. Looks like it's from shavings left over in the manufacturing process after they install the door hardware after the body is painted. Iron-X seems to be the solution if that's what it really is. Still waiting to hear from my dealer, he contacted Ford for repair authorization and is waiting for a reply from them. Let me know -- I assume you have a problem too if you're going to the dealer.

In case anyone is viewing this and is wondering what happened, here's an update a year and a half later. The dealer didn't want anything to do with it, which is just as well because I didn't want anyone grinding away the door seams and then spraying with a rattle can. I applied Iron-X and flushed it really well with clear water. It's been a year and a half and two winters later, and no visible signs of rust. It appears to have just been from filings that had collected on top of the paint. I'll continue to monitor the situation but so far so good.
