  4. 2007 Lincoln MKX Review When compared feature to feature, the 2007 Lincoln MKX stacks up very well against an impressive group of similarly priced luxury crossovers and even surpasses them in many respects. Things like cooled front seats, a panoramic sunroof and a 14-speaker THX audio system tend to get your attention just like free buffalo wings during happy hour at T.G.I. Friday's. But it doesn't take long for you to realize that the 2007 Lincoln MKX needs more going for it than a class-leading menu of treats. | READ MORE HERE |

The GQRS report is the latest of several recent third-party quality assessments showing Ford’s continued improvement. Ford received 14 total vehicles ranked in the top three in their respective segments, including five highest-ranked segment awards, in J.D. Power and Associates IQS study released on June 6. Many of those vehicles were recently launched. [http://media.ford.com/newsroom/feature_display.cfm?release=25404] On June 28, J.D. Power and Associates APEAL study ranked Ford Edge the industry’s top performing all-new vehicle and Ford Mustang won its segment for the third straight year. [h ttp://media.ford.com/article_display.cfm?article_id=26261&make_id=trust ]. In April, RDA Group released its first quarter GQRS report for the year showing Ford in a statistical dead heat with Toyota and just behind Honda. “We’re encouraged by these sustained quality gains, but we also know we have more work to do,” Fields said. “The quality race never ends, and we have to make sure customers know how much progress and momentum we’re gaining on the quality front.”

The front suspension features MacPherson struts and an isolated subframe, firmly attached in six locations. To further smooth out the ride, hydro-bushings are used. The four-link independent rear suspension uses stamped steel control blades for precise suspension tuning. The rear dampers are mounted as far outboard as possible in the vehicle and behind the wheel center to improve ride and handling. Edge comes standard with four-wheel-disc anti-lock brakes. Edge’s 3.5-liter V-6 engine features a strong, lightweight, die-cast aluminum block and lightweight 4-valve-per-cylinder heads for smooth operation at high rpm. The 6-speed automatic transmission uses a wide 6.04:1 gear ratio to deliver good fuel economy and performance. Short first and second gears provide impressive launch and acceleration, while the tall overdrive gears deliver 7 percent better fuel economy than a 4-speed automatic. Edge’s available intelligent all-wheel-drive (AWD) system was tuned with an emphasis on performance while offering confident all-weather driving. By constantly monitoring and predicting traction, the system delivers torque to all four wheels, even before the wheels begin to slip. An active on-demand coupler can deliver the precise amount of torque to the rear wheels. Paired with available AdvanceTrac® traction control, intelligent AWD can transfer torque front to rear and side to side. Impressive Interior Quietness Edge’s well-rounded, modern performance extends to impressive refinement, enhancing the driving experience. In fact, testing has proven that the Edge’s interior is quieter than the Lexus RX350. Engineers spent hundreds of hours fine-tuning Edge’s interior ambiance when the vehicle launched. For example, the side mirrors were specifically designed to reduce wind noise. Even the radio antenna was scrutinized. By modifying the pitch and height of the spiral by tenths of a millimeter, wind noise was reduced by as much as 2 decibels. Modern Design with a Dramatic Edge The Edge’s bold American design is defined by its distinctive three-bar chromed grille. An aggressively raked windshield and fast-sloping back window with high-mounted rear spoiler accentuate the feeling of motion. Quad-beam headlamps and a “powerdome” hood accentuate the purposeful front-end look. The wheels are pushed to the corners, giving Edge its powerful, yet graceful stance. The raised beltline emphasizes strong, sculpted shoulders formed around sharp wheel arches. Matte black lower front and rear fascias and side rocker panels emphasize Edge’s sporty character. Edge’s modern design flows into the interior, evident in the instrument panel and distinctive center stack. The center stack design incorporates two, 9-inch by 2-inch vertical vents that bracket the audio and climate-control switches. Available all-leather seating surfaces feature contrast stitching inspired by the fashion industry. Adaptable, Flexible Design Edge is designed to fit the customer’s need for style as well as cargo space and adaptability. This could be caused by a loose or unseated wire terminal connection at the Battery Junction Box (BJB) located near the battery under the hood. 07-17-2 ABS LAMP ON C1165/C1175 AND/OR C1235/C1236 Some 2007 Edge/MKX vehicles built before 6/1/2007 (FWD only) may exhibit an Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) warning lamp and/or a Electronic Stability Control (ESC) warning lamp illuminated with diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) C1165/C1175 and/or C1235/C1236. This may be due to a faulty rear wheel speed sensor. 07-16-11 ROOF OPENING PANEL SQUEAK/RATTLE Some 2007 Ford Edge and Lincoln MKX vehicles equipped with a roof opening panel may exhibit a rattle or squeak from the rear glass area. This may be caused by the delamination of the rear trim ring hook and loop (Velcro) adhesive. Inspect the rear trim ring and if loose, determine if the loop tape has delaminated from the plastic trim ring. 07-16-10 POWER TRANSFER UNIT (PTU) VENT LEAK Some 2007 Edge and MKX AWD vehicles may exhibit a PTU oil leak from the vent which is located on the top surface of the PTU. The oil leak could also be mistaken as coming from the interface seal between PTU and transaxle. 07-16-5 BATTERY JUNCTION BOX (BJB)- POSSIBLE MIL ON WITH MULTIPLE DTCS, NO CRANK/NO START, DRIVABILITY SYMPTOMS Some 2007 Edge and MKX vehicles built before 4/5/2007 may exhibit a concern that results in a no crank/no start, buck/jerk, lack/loss of power and/or malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) on with one or more diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) present. This could be caused by poor fuse terminal fit in the BJB located near the battery under the hood. 07-11-14 NOISE COLD - FRONT HALF SHAFTS - RATCHETING/CLICKING/CREAKING Some 2007 Edge and MKX vehicles may exhibit a ratcheting, clicking, and creaking noise from the front half shafts in cold ambient temperatures after a vehicle cold soaks. The noise occurs on medium to heavy acceleration when turning but goes away quickly. Replace the grease in both front constant velocity (CV) joints. 07-11-13 WHINE/HOOT NOISE - SPEED 50-60 MPH (80-97 KM/H) Some 2007 All Wheel Drive Edge and MKX vehicles may exhibit noise from the power transfer unit (PTU). The noise typically occurs at speeds between 50-60 MPH (80-97 Km/h). 07-11-9 BRAKE DRAG Some Edge/MKX vehicles may exhibit brake drag from the rear wheels or all wheels. Customers may notice an odor and/or reduced powertrain performance. In some cases, the driver may also note an integral vehicle dynamics (IVD) light after driving a given distance due to pressure noted in the module without a change in brake on/off (BOO) state. • To resolve the brake drag concern from all wheels - Replacement of the BOO switch is necessary. • To resolve the brake drag concern from the rear wheels only - Adjustment of the park brake cables are necessary. 07-7-6 PULL/DRIFT Some 2007 Ford Edge and Lincoln MKX vehicles may exhibit a drift/pull concern that occurs even though the tire pressures and wheel alignment are within specifications, and the concern is not corrected by rotating the front tires left to right. 07-5-8 BATTERY SERVICE - OPERATION OF BATTERY EYE - CHARGING SERVICE TIPS Do not replace a battery based solely on the indication given by the battery eye. The battery eye color simply indicates the battery state-of-charge, not its condition. * RED usually indicates that the battery state-of-charge is at 40 percent or less * YELLOW indicates that the battery state-of-charge is between 40 and 57 percent * GREEN indicates that the battery state-of-charge is above 57 percent * NO COLOR/BLACK sometimes no color can be seen at all and the eye appears black. This could happen after the battery has been in service for several years and some of the plate material has coated the balls * CLEAR could happen if the battery case becomes damaged and the electrolyte has fallen below the plates 07-4-3 LEATHER-WRAPPED STEERING WHEEL - LEATHER COMING LOOSE Some vehicles equipped with leather-wrapped steering wheels may exhibit the leather coming loose from the spoke area. Apply Motorcraft Instant Gel Adhesive to re-adhere the loose leather to the wheel spoke. 07-3-11 6F50 TRANSAXLES BUILT PRIOR TO 1/1/2007 - DTC P0715, P0717, P0718, P0720, P0721, P0722 AND/OR HARSH ENGAGEMENT, NO UPSHIFT, FIFTH GEAR ONLY. Some 2007 Edge and MKX vehicles equipped with a 6F50 transaxle with a transaxle build date prior to 1/1/2007, with any Output Shaft Speed (OSS) sensor or Turbine Shaft Speed (TSS) sensor diagnostic trouble code(s) (DTCs) P0715, P0717, P0718, P0720, P0721, P0722 and/or harsh engagements, no upshift, fifth gear only, could have an intermittent short in the OSS or TSS sensor. 07-1-7 MERCON® ATF REPLACED BY MERCON® V AS A SERVICE FLUID FOR SOME POWER STEERING SYSTEMS MERCON® Automatic Transmission Fluid is being replaced by MERCON® V as a service fluid for power steering systems originally requiring MERCON®. 06-25-3 PIONEER NAVIGATION RADIO - SEEK FUNCTION INOPERATIVE - SERVICE TIP Some 2006-2007 vehicles equipped with a Pioneer Navigation Radio may appear to have a defective seek function. It may be reported that the radio Seek function is inoperative, Seek will not stop (keeps scrolling through stations) or the radio exhibits Poor FM reception. This may be due to a misunderstanding of how the operation of the PTY (Program Type) feature functions. The PTY feature filters out radio stations that do not fit a selected category of radio programming like: Top 40, Classical, and News. The result is a "continuous seek" condition if the feature is activated and no stations are found under the selected category. 06-21-7 AUDIO / NAVIGATION SERVICE AND ORDERING PROCEDURES This article supersedes TSB 06-10-10 to update the vehicle applications as this procedure doesn't apply to the following vehicles if equipped with the Navigation System - 2005-2006 Expedition, 2005-2007 Escape, 2005-2007 Escape Hybrid, 2006-2007 Mariner Hybrid. Some vehicles may require the audio or navigation unit to be replaced. 06-18-15 IGNITION DIAGNOSTICS Some 2006-2007 vehicles with a customer concern of a misfire, with or without diagnostic trouble code (P030X), access the spark duration PID's in IDS, in the Tool Box under Powertrain/Ignition Tools or in Datalogger when using IDS, WDS, PDS, or PID database in NGS Plus, to diagnose the concern.

Modern Lincoln Design Lincoln MKX’s confident exterior and luxurious, quiet interior signal a new direction in Lincoln’s modern design. The high beltline is defined by a stroke of chromed trim that caps broad shoulders, pronounced wheel lips and short overhangs that give Lincoln MKX its wide, athletic stance. A chromed cap on each side-view mirror adds a dramatic finishing touch. Black rocker panels plant the vehicle to the ground, accentuating the standard 18-inch wheels and tires. For 2008, customers can now choose all-new 20-inch chrome-clad aluminum wheels for an added touch of upscale flair. Side marker lights cut into the simple, clean fascia and bend around to the side of the vehicle. Chrome-ringed fog lamps integrated into the lower fascia echo the chrome-tipped dual exhausts. Lincoln Lighting Distinctive lighting is a hallmark of modern Lincoln design, offering the perfect balance of art and functionality. An available adaptive front lighting system consists of motor-driven halogen low beams based on steering-wheel input that swivel around curves. When cornering, the headlamps can illuminate a stretch of road up to 36 feet longer than conventional headlights. Functional elegance is also the theme for Lincoln MKX’s liftgate lighting. The system uses 16 light-emitting diodes (LEDs), eight outboard and eight inboard, flanking the Lincoln star. The result is an edge-to-edge band of illumination across the width of the liftgate. Quiet, Comfortable Interior Lincoln’s modern identity is evident in Lincoln MKX’s comfortable, elegant interior that adds new color and material combinations with bright nickel accents and upgraded floor mats for 2008. Lincoln MKX boasts the quietest Lincoln interior yet. In addition to conventional sound-absorbing techniques such as a thicker dash pad, laminated windshield and thicker side glass, Lincoln MKX blends unique materials for further reduction in road noise. A constrained-layer barrier is fused to the rear wheelhouses, and sound-deadening material is welded behind exterior trim panels. The interior design is defined by a sweeping instrument panel flowing into a clean, well-organized center stack. Wood and bright nickel accents are carried to the door panels. Interior controls are bathed in Lincoln’s cool-white light for a pleasing nighttime cabin experience. Removable dividers in the center console let customers adapt storage space for anything from laptop computers to handbags and CDs. The center console also features a concealed power point – for a total of four throughout the interior – and an MP3 audio jack. Phone and MP3 player cords can be neatly organized, and a slot molded into the console provides power-point access. The interior is surprisingly spacious, defying its sleek exterior shape. Front seats have ten-way power adjustment including power lumbar for both driver and passenger, along with standard heated and cooled features. The second row is sure to make all occupants comfortable with available heated seats, as well as ample headroom and legroom. In addition, the 60/40-split second row features impressive reclining angles of up to 15 degrees. It also folds in one fluid movement, either by the seat-mounted lever or a unique EasyFold™ remote switch accessible from the liftgate. Lincoln MKX offers 68.7 cubic feet of cargo volume with the rear seats folded. Vista Roof™ Lets in Mother Nature As drivers face more congested roads, Lincoln MKX’s available all-glass Vista Roof™ brings stress relief through its unique outward view and open-air freedom. The Vista Roof™ features a large 27.3-inch by 29.4-inch forward sunroof with a one-touch-open switch for vent and tilt-and-slide operations. Dual power sunshades operate concurrently when the driver wants to block out glare. Meanwhile, the fixed 15.75-inch by 31.3-inch rear moon roof gives rear-seat viewers an outside view, too. Award Winning Entertainment The 2008 Lincoln MKX offers the industry’s first THX® II-Certified audio system designed by THX, a California company renowned for its movie theater systems. Named the ‘Best Audio System’ by CNET.com in the 2006 Car Tech Awards and PC Magazine in their 2007 Digital Drive Awards, the THX II system uses the latest in THX technologies to bring the home theater surround sound experience to the open road. The system uses a 12-channel amplifier to deliver 600 watts of power to a total of 14 speakers, including two subwoofers, strategically placed in the cabin. The system’s processor takes into consideration bandwidth, peak audio levels and coverage uniformity to deliver a smooth spectral balance and wide dynamic range. Multi-channel equalization and digital signal processing match the speaker placement to the cabin acoustics to assure this level of performance. With the push of a button, the system can be configured for three specific listening modes - Driver, Front Seats and All Seats - ensuring that all passengers are enjoying optimal sound. The system also features a fast-loading six-disc changer that reads CDs in normal audio, MP3 compressed or text formats. The AM/FM tuner is compatible with the Radio Data Broadcasting System (RDBS) and displays participating radio station call letters, formats and song titles. Lincoln MKX also features an integrated MP3-audio input jack and power point conveniently concealed in the center console. Rear passengers can enjoy the available DVD entertainment system with a drop-down 8-inch screen. Tuned for Refinement and Comfort Powered by a 3.5-liter DOHC V-6 engine and 6-speed automatic transmission, Lincoln MKX is Lincoln’s best example yet of effortless driving performance thanks to its wide stance, four-wheel independent suspension and the brand’s well-honed driving DNA. Lincoln MKX’s unibody construction provides a strong foundation for the four-wheel independent suspension. The MacPherson-strut front suspension is mounted to an isolated subframe that uses hydro-bushings to reduce unwanted steering wheel vibration. A four-link, independent rear suspension uses stamped steel control blades and monotube shocks for precise suspension tuning. The rear shocks are mounted outboard and behind the wheel center to enhance ride and handling. Lincoln MKX comes standard with four-wheel disc brakes and an anti-lock braking system (ABS). The available intelligent all-wheel-drive (AWD) system is tuned with an emphasis on luxury performance and confident all-weather driving. The system actively and seamlessly delivers torque to all four wheels, even before wheel slippage occurs. An active on-demand coupler delivers the precise amount of torque needed to the rear wheels. Paired with available traction control, intelligent AWD can transfer torque front-to-rear and side-to-side. The advanced 6-speed automatic transmission uses a wide 6.04:1 gear ratio, along with multiple clutches for smoother, refined shifts. Safety Customers Expect The Lincoln MKX offers a long list of standard safety features designed to help protect occupants in the event of a crash. The body structure has been optimized through the strategic use of high-strength steel, side intrusion beams in the doors, and specially designed energy-absorbing interior door trim. Other safety advancements include: * AdvanceTrac® with RSC® (Roll Stability Control). This system can predict a vehicle’s path, using a sensor to measure oversteer and yaw by monitoring the vehicle’s speed, throttle position and steering wheel angle. When the system senses wheel slip or the loss of traction, it applies braking where needed to keep the vehicle safely on its intended path. * Ford’s Personal Safety System®. This suite of safety features includes dual-stage driver and front passenger air bags, thorax side air bags for front seat occupants, safety belt pre-tensioners, seat weight sensing system for the passenger seat, and crash severity sensing. * Ford’s exclusive Safety Canopy™ side curtain air bags. Designed for both rows, this feature utilizes roll-fold technology to efficiently deploy the air bag when an occupant’s head is resting against the side glass. In the event of a crash, the roll-fold bag will deploy between the occupant’s head and the side of the vehicle. * Ford’s BeltMinder™ safety belt reminder for driver and front passenger. Lincoln MKX also comes equipped with such standard features as child safety locks on the rear doors and LATCH child safety restraint system. * Ford’s Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS). This system alerts drivers when tire pressure is low. 12. Ford Edge: Buyers rave, critics rant Ford Motor Co.'s critical Edge crossover is living up to its name. On Thursday, the Dearborn automaker hailed news that consumers ranked it the "most appealing new vehicle" in the J.D. Power and Associates annual APEAL survey, the latest in a growing string of accolades from the people who matter most -- those who actually buy the cars. But they're not the only folks who matter. Consumer Reports, the bible for many car buyers, ranks the Edge 15th among 18 midsize SUVs, calls it "a disappointment" and "no challenge to the four-year-old Nissan Murano" in its August issue, set to hit newsstands Tuesday but already arriving at the homes of subscribers. 13. J.D. POWER AND ASSOCIATES: FORD EDGE IS AWARDED MOST APPEALING VEHICLE * Ford Edge ranks highest in its segment in the J.D. Power and Associates APEAL study, which measures customers’ views on vehicle design, content and performance after three months of driving. * Ford’s crossover is “Most Appealing Midsize Multi-Activity Vehicle (MAV).” * Ford Mustang is “Most Appealing” in its segment, for the third straight year. Ford Edge Forum - Ford Edge is the industry’s top performing vehicle, according to today’s J.D. Power and Associates 2007 Automotive Performance, Execution and Layout StudyTM (APEAL). Ford’s newest five-passenger crossover vehicle outperformed its segment average by 68 index points, making Edge the highest performing all-new or redesigned vehicle in the industry. Edge also ranked highest overall in the Midsize MAV segment of J.D. Power’s APEAL Study, in which customers assess delight with the design, content, layout and performance after three months of driving. “This is more good news and further affirmation that we’re delivering more products people really want – especially when you consider the newest vehicles in our lineup,” said Mark Fields, president, The Americas, Ford Motor Company. “Last year, Fusion topped its segment in the J.D. Power and Associates APEAL study. This year, fresh on the heels of Ford receiving top honors in five vehicle segments in the J.D. Power and Associates Initial Quality Study (IQS), Ford receives more strong quality feedback from customers who made Edge the industry standout and a top performer in the fastest-growing and most competitive segment in the industry,” he said. Customers participating in the APEAL study also praised Ford Mustang, making it the highest ranked vehicle in the Midsize Sporty Car segment – for the second straight year. This is the third year in a row that Mustang has received an APEAL award, having garnered the Sporty Car segment award in 2005. Three other Ford Motor Company vehicles ranked second or third in their segments: Ford Explorer Sport Trac is 2nd; Lincoln Navigator is 3rd; and Mazda CX7 is 2nd. Additionally, most Ford Motor Company brands improved or maintained their performance from last year’s APEAL study. “It’s gratifying to have two strong Ford nameplates – Edge and Mustang – leading the pack on consumer appeal,” Fields said. “While we’ll celebrate this achievement with our employees, we know that the quality race never ends. We’re going to continue working harder to provide people even more reasons to consider driving Ford vehicles again.” The new Edge is the first vehicle in its segment to offer an all-glass roof, which was inspired by architectural trends toward greater use of glass in wall-to-ceiling windows, the Vista Roof serves as a large front moonroof and a rear skylight. The interior makes ingenious use of space, delivering maximum flexibility and functionality. The available EasyFold electro-mechanical seat release switch drops either of the back seats at the touch of a button for easy cargo loading. An innovative use of materials and technology has produced a crossover with luxury-vehicle interior quietness. As in last month’s J.D. Power and Associates IQS study, Ford’s recently launched vehicles turned out a solid performance in APEAL. Ford received 14 total vehicles ranked in the top three in their respective segments, including five highest-ranked segment awards, in J.D. Power and Associates IQS study released on June 6. Many of those vehicles were recently launched. J.D. Power and Associates IQS and APEAL are among the recent third-party metrics to demonstrate Ford’s quality improvements. In April 2006, RDA Group of Bloomfield, Mich., released the Global Quality Research System report (GQRS) showed Ford in a statistical dead heat with Toyota and just behind Honda. The GQRS report, an analysis of “things gone wrong” (TGW) in new vehicles as measured by customers, is commissioned quarterly by Ford to study customer feedback. Ford improved its TGW rate by 8 percent, besting the industry average improvement of 2 percent. “The lineup is growing stronger, and the Ford team’s efforts are paying off,” Fields said. “We’re working to deliver our plan, and creating quality cars, trucks and crossovers for our customers is a key part of it.”

  15. Ask any car salespeople and they will tell you: Teachers are some of their toughest customers. They tend to study the price of vehicles as well as safety and performance features, with a little more intensity than the average buyer. So when Scott Kuschel, a 35-year-old history teacher at Brother Rice High School in Bloomfield Township, decided to buy a 2007 Ford Edge when it hit the market four months ago, his purchase said something good about the future of the new midsize crossover and Ford Motor Co. | READ MORE HERE |

  17. 2007 Ford Edge AWD Review (Detroit, Michigan) CarsAndTrucksForWomen.com - In 2003, Ford came out with their “If you haven't looked at Ford lately, look again” advertising slogan. The only problem with Ford’s slogan was that there were not too many products that wanted to make you look again. But the Ford Fusion, along with the more recently introduced Ford Edge have made a lot of people “look at Ford again.” And for good reason: The quality of the Ford Fusion is rated higher than comparable makes from both Honda and Toyota. The Edge has only been on the market for a few months, but like the Fusion, it has been a trouble free product. Consumer Reports did not rate the Edge in its 2007 magazine because it's too new to the market. Our 2007 Ford Edge test vehicle arrived from Ford Motor Company equipped with the SEL Plus package, which included the optional AWD (All-Wheel-Drive). The sticker price, including the AWD package, but before options was $30,720.00. It totaled out at $36,580.00, including destination and delivery. See the breakdown at the end of the article. I had originally expected for Ford to deliver our 2007 Edge test vehicle in Blazing Copper, however, I was pleasantly surprised to find that Ford provided us their test vehicle in a color called Crème Brulee. Crème Brulee can best be described as a beautiful smooth, soft and silky color that really highlights the bold, yet gracious curves in an overall contemporary and elegant fashion. The overall flow of the Crème Brulee paint is only broken apart by the large, three-bar chromed front grille. The grille's design is characteristic of Ford's new design theme. The center of the grille features a bold and prominent over-sized Ford logo, but it looks right at home. | CLICK HERE TO READ THE ENTIRE REVIEW |

  19. FORD SHOWCASES WORLD’S FIRST DRIVABLE FUEL CELL HYBRID ELECTRIC VEHICLE BlueOvalNews.com - Ford Motor Company today will showcase the world’s first drivable fuel cell hybrid electric plug-in vehicle at the Kansas City Assembly Plant during a visit by U.S. President George W. Bush. The vehicle combines an onboard hydrogen fuel cell generator with lithium-ion batteries to deliver more than 41 mpg with zero emissions. It is built on a flexible powertrain architecture that will enable Ford to use new fuel and propulsion technologies as they develop without redesigning the vehicle. The new HySeries Drive™ powertrain featured in a Ford Edge uses a real-world version of the powerplant envisioned in the Ford Airstream concept unveiled in January at the 2007 North American International Auto Show in Detroit. The HySeries Drive powertrain delivers a combined city/highway gasoline equivalent fuel economy rating of 41 mpg. For those who drive less than 50 miles each day, the average jumps to more than 80 mpg. The plug-in hybrid is powered by a 336-volt lithium-ion battery pack at all times. The vehicle drives the first 25 miles each day on stored electricity alone, after which the fuel cell begins operating to keep the battery pack charged. This provides another 200 miles of range for a total of 225 miles with zero emissions. Individual experiences will vary widely and can stretch out the time between fill-ups to more than 400 miles: drivers with modest daily needs would need to refuel only rarely, drivers who travel less than 50 miles each day will see fuel economy well over 80 mpg, while those with long daily commutes will see somewhat lower numbers as the fuel cell must run a larger fraction of the time. The Ford Edge with HySeries Drive can travel at speeds of up to 85 mph. An on-board charger (110/220 VAC) can refresh the battery pack when a standard home outlet is available, making the concept a true plug-in hybrid. When the battery pack is depleted to approximately 40 percent, the hydrogen fuel cell – supplied by Ford partner Ballard – automatically turns on and begins generating electricity to recharge the batteries. Like a conventional automobile, the Ford Edge with HySeries Drive will go until it runs out of fuel – in this case via a 350-bar hydrogen tank that supplies 4.5 kg of useable hydrogen. The HySeries Drive name is derived from the powertrain’s structure: a hydrogen fuel-cell-powered series hybrid drivetrain. This highly innovative approach reduces the size, weight, cost and complexity of a conventional fuel cell system by more than 50 percent. It also promises to more than double the lifetime of the fuel cell stack. This flexible powertrain architecture enables the use of new fuel and propulsion technologies as they develop and become available without the need to redesign the vehicle and its control systems. Certainly, many significant technical hurdles need to be overcome before a vehicle such as the Edge with HySeries Drive can become a reality. Fuel cell vehicles remain expensive, costing millions of dollars each. And the single biggest hurdle to plug-ins remains the cost of lithium-ion batteries. Much work also needs to be done to make fuel cells more durable and to create a hydrogen infrastructure. Hydrogen Part of a Broader Effort At Ford Research into hydrogen, including the Ford Edge with HySeries Drive, is part of Ford’s overall effort to address the challenges of climate change and energy independence. Ford is moving ahead with a range of technology solutions simultaneously, including vehicles such as the Ford Escape Hybrid and Mercury Mariner Hybrid, hydrogen fuel cells, hydrogen internal combustion engines, ethanol, clean diesel and refinements to gasoline fueled engines and advanced transmissions. Some of the technology, such as that seen in Ford’s lineup of hybrid vehicles, represents near-term approaches. Other technology, including hydrogen fell cells, must be viewed as a long-term option. Ford began working on hydrogen technology in the early 1990s. Ford’s first hydrogen fuel cell vehicle, released in 2001, was based on a lightweight aluminum sedan body, which also was used in the development of the company’s first hydrogen-powered internal combustion engine. The company currently has a fleet of 30 hydrogen-powered Focus fuel cell vehicles on the road as part of a worldwide, seven-city program to conduct real-world testing of fuel cell technology. The fleet has accumulated more than 300,000 miles since its inception. With this fleet on the road, a great deal of information that can be integrated into future fuel cell vehicle propulsion systems is being generated in different local environmental conditions. Having the fleet outside the confines of Ford Motor Company also has allowed the team to gain valuable feedback on servicing vehicles in the field. As a hydrogen infrastructure is developed and implemented for the fleet at each location, lessons learned are being generated to ensure that the customer and hydrogen fueling interface is seamless and customer friendly.

Once somebody clicks on the series it will be delivered through RSS (really simple syndication) feed. Each month they will receive an automatic update of the series. All monthly episodes will be available for the full year. About March’s Edge Vodcast Artists and Songs Snow Patrol – You’re All I Have UK natives Snow Patrol began as a modest indie rock band in the mid-90s, but in recent years their soaring, anthemic songwriting has propelled the band to headlining music festivals and multi-platinum record sales. The new single “You’re All I Have” is the latest from the album Eyes Open. Nelly Furtado – Say It Right For her latest album Loose, Nelly Furtado teamed with producer/genius Timbaland (Missy Elliott, Justin Timberlake, Jay-Z) with typically stunning results. The song “Say It Right” features a spooky synth-driven melody recalling sophisticated ‘80s pop groups like the Eurythmics. It is the second single from the album to hit #1 in the U.S. Peter Bjorn & John – Young Folks This Swedish trio has been building quite a buzz lately. Their debut single “Young Folks” (featuring guest vocalist Victoria Bergsman of the Concretes) was one of the major indie hits in Europe last year. The band is set to tour the U.S. in April & May, kicking off at the prestigious Coachella Festival. La Rocca – This Life Irish band La Rocca, formed in Dublin in 2002, borrow thedeir name from a seedy bar in Bristol, England where they played early shows. Their auspicious debut album, The Truth, appeared in 2006 and is stuffed with instantly familiar melodies. One of the best is the bittersweet “This Life,” a song that recalls lost love with a glimmer of hope for the future.

  24. BlueOvalNews.com (Feb 28, 2007 Dearborn, Mi) It seems customers like the Ford Edge so much, they'll even drive through a blizzard to buy one. That story, and several others, underlines the sales success of Ford's new crossover. In its first full month of sales in January, the Edge had sales of 5,586, easily eclipsing the first month sales of the popular Ford Fusion sedan (4,078 in October 2005). Sales consultant Susan Blue says she's still amazed by the customer that braved 18 inches of snow and blocked roads to pick up his new Edge a few weeks ago. On that whiteout Saturday afternoon, a prospect Blue had talked with earlier in the week said he would come by -- to buy. "It was bad out," said Blue, who works at Don Seelye Ford in Kalamazoo, Mich. "There was a snow advisory and a snow alert, and I couldn't even see the used car lot from the office window." Nonetheless, after 45 minutes on the road in what should have been a 15-minute trip, Blue's customer pulled up in his trade-in -- a 2006 Mitsubishi Eclipse GT coupe with only 11,000 miles on the odometer. "He saw the Edge ad on TV, but he seemed nonchalant when I talked to him earlier, so I was surprised when he called that day," said Blue. "He was bound and determined to get an Edge." The deal was quickly done, and the customer was instantly rewarded. Driving his new all-wheel-drive Edge, he shaved 15 minutes off his ride back home on snow-clogged streets. Since then, he's called Blue twice and written a letter to say how pleased he is with his new purchase. And she's sold two more since then. "It's a hot, hot product," she said. Sheehy Ford in Gaithersburg, Md., also reports an Edge conquest sale involving the trade-in of an upscale foreign model, in this case BMW's luxury crossover, the X5. Sheehy's customer liked their BMW but decided to test drive an Edge after the TV ads caught their attention. After the test drive, they chose not to buy another BMW and got the Edge. They also said they're considering buying a second Edge when their lease on a BMW 7 series luxury sedan expires later this year. At the Grand Ford dealership in East Liverpool, Ohio, near the Pennsylvania and West Virginia border, sales manager Rob Migliore thanks the Internet for their first Edge sale. The dealership received its first Edge on a Monday morning and sold it that afternoon to a customer who drove an hour and a half from Uniontown, Ohio, to buy it. That customer had been online at the interactive Edge site and "built" the car they wanted. With a few clicks, they learned that Grand Ford was the closest store with "their" Edge -- a pewter SEL with the Vista Roof. "We were the ones with the car they wanted so they drove here right away to get it before someone else did," said Migliore. Sales rep Bob Montgomery reports a similar story from Jerry Taylor Ford in Grove City, Pa. The dealership got its first Edge (with a Vista Roof) on a Friday. By Monday morning, Montgomery had sold it to a customer who had driven by the dealership that weekend and spotted the vehicle. "He said it was beautiful, and I went for a test drive, and he said he'd be back in a few minutes. Well, I've heard that one before," says Montgomery who has been selling cars since 1984. The customer told Montgomery he'd be back at 11 a.m. and showed up at 10:55. He went for a second test drive and bought the Edge, trading in a loaded Chevy HHR he'd had for just four months that he said he didn't like. "All he says now is how great that Edge rides, even better than the (Toyota) Camry he has at his Florida home," says Montgomery. There was a bonus in that sale, too. "Every week, he stops by with tomatoes and produce from his greenhouse. I think I've made as much on produce as I did on the commission," laughs Montgomery. "(The Edge) is a great vehicle to sell. I just need to sell some more of them."
  25. Ford X-Plan P.I.N.s are issued by Ford Employees. Under the X-Plan program, purchasers are eligible to receive the vehicle at a certain price set by Ford. The dealer is not allowed to add documentation or other "dealer" fees. You are still responsible for tax, tag and title fees. Dealers are NOT required to sell vehicles at X-Plan prices, so ask your selling dealer BEFORE you negotiate or place an order. On occasion, dealers might be able to sell you a vehicle at a better price than you would get under an X-Plan, so make sure to ask for both prices. Once your dealer agrees to accept an X-Plan, you can request a PIN from the employee section of BlueOvalNews here. * Please note that your FordEdgeForum user name/password will not work on BlueOvalForums.
