  1. Thank you for the update. Is your vehicle still under warranty? I wonder if they will fix this for free or a small fee if I'm out of warranty...

My Edge is still under warranty.

At the time I was under the Ford 3 year / 60,000km Warranty -

I bought the extended Ford warranty with the Edge (5 year 120,000 KM) on the Edge - SO I am still under warranty for another 16 months or 40,000KM

That soon from warranty I would expect the dealer to help you out.

KeyWest Ford Service Dept. in New Westminster BC is the Best Service Dept of any Brand I have ever dealt with.

They treat your vehicle like it was theirs and always do the right thing

  2. I'm having the same problem. It randomly works, and then for no reason it goes out & I get a "contact dealership" message. I took it in to my local dealership & because I'm no longer covered by the bumper to bumper warranty I was told that I had to replace the camera & it would cost me close to $700! This seems a bit absurd to me for a backup camera on a car that is less than 4 years old. How do I go about getting in touch with the Ford rep that others have had luck with?

The reason it cost so much is the fact that you can't take the trim piece off the back to replace just the camera without some of the clips breaking, so the trim piece, camera mount and camera should all be replaced at the same time to avoid what happened to me.

I was lucky that all of this happened to me while the Edge was still under warranty.

    See my post #11

This is what happens when you go through a touchless car wash with a good dryer at the end, and you try to reuse parts.

  3. I have a similar problem on my 2011 Edge Sport (64,000 KM)

1 tire looses 7 psi per month and the other 3 loose 4 psi per month

Monthly trips to Kal Tire for a air top up is on the monthly maintenance schedule.

At least these rims are only on the Edge 7 months of the year and the winter rims/tires with no air leaks take on the other 5 months.

I also had a problem on one of the tires where the schrader valve did not seat properly and the tire went flat within a week after topping up the air

  4. Camera and camera software are working again

    Gridlinesback_zps5f3dbb0e.jpg

The new back trim, camera, light holder and wire support piece came in yesterday , the trim piece has been sent to the body shop for painting

These are the parts discussed earlier in the tread

The Edge should be back to 100% by Wednesday and the work order closed, once I get the paperwork I will advise exactly what had to be done to get the camera and software working again.

I know they replaced the camera with new.

  5. Wow! How the heck did THAT happen? So the problem with the camera was a software issue? Hopefully they can provide some specific info that will help other forlorn Edge owners out :)

    for a helpful dealership.

They replaced the camera and updated the camera software (I haven't seen the paperwork yet as to what exactly was done)

The new software had a glitch not allowing the grid lines or proximity boxes to appear, they did a hotline call with Ford and got a patch to bring the grid back.

The Blow dryers from the car wash Air caught a hold of this trim piece that obviously wasn't fully secured and ripped it right off the Edge

There is a Ford TSB advising the techs that these clips will break when trying to remove this trim and to order a new piece painted to match if any work is done under there

  6. I have a 2011 Edge. I also got this same error at approx. 43k miles. "Camera is unavailable, please contact your dealer".

I contacted my dealer and dropped my truck off to have inspected. The week before , my backup picture continued to present "upside down". The Ford mechanic said he hasn't seen this before, there are no recalls and he would be happy to replace the camera however it would cost over $1,000. I must say, I was extremely disappointed, but now that I see I'm not the only one with this problem, I feel Ford owes its valued customers a fix as there is obviously an issue.

I am a lifetime Ford customer and not a happy one at this time. Step up Ford!

I am a long time Ford Guy too ( Always seemed to have a Ford in the family - Mustang, Focus, Roush Mustang, Steeda Focus, Edge, Fiesta

We've had other cars also Mini Cooper S, a few Chevy products ( Wife was a Chevy fan) The only reason I'm still with Ford is because of the service I get from my dealers service dept.

This is the only Service dept I have every come across that treats my car as if it were their own personal car, and always does the right thing. ( to have me leaving happy)

So earlier in the thread you saw that things aren't quite right with the new software and the dealer was looking into it for me.

Decided to clean the Edge today at a touchless car wash, well that didn't go so well.

There is a TSB telling the techs that if this pieces needs to be removed a new one needs to be ordered and painted to match as the clips break when trying to take it off.

Guess what nobody read this TSB till this happened going through the blow dryers at the car wash

Took the Edge to the Service Dept. right after it happened, they put me in a courtesy car , took my Edge into the shop, ordered up the new parts , called me later explaining what went wrong and advised that they have fixed the software issue and the grid lines are back.

Picking up the Edge tomorrow. ( Thanks Amber, Wayne for Taking awesome care of a Ford Customer)

  7. There is a delay setting on my Edge which will alow the camera to stay on until I reach a certain speed going forward. I think it is about 5 mph or so. The setting to turn it off or on is in the menu. Sounds like yours is turned on.

Here is a picture of my settings.

Nothing works one way or the other

I was going about 60 Km in Drive before it went to the home screen

The camera update has really messed thing up

The Dealer is going to have a hotline meeting with Ford on Monday to see if they can figure out whats going on.

Everything worked fine till the camera went down last week

    CameraSettings_zps8f3ba652.jpg

It also, now takes 1-2 minutes for it to find my phone

  8. I think this new software for the camera needs to go back to the drawing board

    1. no grid lines , no proximity boxes (green,Yellow, Red)

    2. Reversed out of a spot and put the Edge in drive, Edge thought it was still in reverse as I drove forward for 15-20 seconds with the Camera still engaged then the regular home screen final popped up.

  9. Got the Edge back.

New Camera installed and working but the new software has deleted the grid Lines and proximity lines.

The advanced camera settings are set to show the grids but doesn't

after a master reset and turning the Edge on and off the grids don't show.

They are going to check into it Further on Monday, in the meantime I have the Edge back with no Grid lines.

The camera seems like its in zoom mode with the plus zoom area in the top lefthand corner but it does nothing

  10. UPDATE FROM SERVICE CALL TODAY

This message is related to an update for the camera that started to appear about a month ago.

While checking everything out they noticed that my camera wasn't tight inside the mount so they have ordered me a new Camera that will be installed on Saturday when it comes in.

  11. Did you order your winter tires and rims fromTire Rack. If so, were the TPMSs installed? Do you also have to order the $45 programming tool?

    No,

My Ford Service Dept. brought them in from their supplier

Ford Service Dept took care of everything. Steel rims, Sensors,Mounting, Installing - Reprogramming

I have no programming tools as I take the Edge into the dealer and they put the 17" snows on and off each season and reprogram everything for me including the MFT so that the speedo is always correct.

I have gotten to know the Service Dept team very well over the years from vehicle servicings, Show and shines and track days with my Roush Mustang

They take total care of all my Vehicle needs, They are the main reason my Vehicles are Fords

  12. My Ford Dealers Service Manager is the one that recommended 17" for my Edge Sport.

I have run my 17" snow tires for 2 seasons now with no issues. ( Season 3 coming soon)

Knock on wood, the only issues with my Edge since new is MFT Apin Failures, problems, glitches

I have the 17" snow tires on the Edge ( Mid November to end of March Approx 10,000KM ) with no changes in driving style.

Tire Rack also has the 17" as an option

Priorities for Sizing Winter Tires Are Different

Original Equipment tire and wheel sizing has evolved over the years to where yesterday's typical 13", 14" and 15" sizes have been replaced with today's 16", 17", 18" and larger sizes. For that matter, many current cars, vans and light trucks now feature wide, low profile tires mounted on large diameter wheels as standard equipment or factory options.

Unfortunately wide, low profile tires have to "plow" a wide path through deep snow, where narrower tires have an easier time. So if you're likely to drive through deep snow this year, you'll want winter / snow tires and wheels in sizes that help put the laws of physics on your side.

Save Money While Enhancing Your Vehicle's Deep Snow Traction

Tire Rack's Preferred Winter Packages* often feature alternate sizes that combine smaller diameter wheels (that fit over the vehicle's Original Equipment brakes and within its wheelwell) with narrower, higher profile tires (that have equivalent load capacities and overall diameters). This not only promotes better deep snow traction, but also results in less expensive Winter / Snow Tire & Wheel Packages. An additional advantage higher profile tire sizes offer is they feature taller sidewalls and smaller diameter wheels that more easily resist damage associated with winter road hazards and early spring potholes.

Winter Tire and Wheel Packages are available for many vehicles. Select our Preferred Package* for your vehicle or build your own package today.

Winter tire sizes should be based on one of the following:

Your Vehicle's Original Equipment Tire and Wheel Size

While not offering a dimensional advantage, choosing winter tires and wheels in the Original Equipment size to seasonally replace the vehicle's Summer or All-Season tires will offer more traction in cold temperatures, slush, snow and ice thanks to the winter tire's tread design and compound that remains pliable in below-freezing and sub-zero temperatures.

The Tire and Wheel Size From Your Vehicle's Base Model

This is often an easy way to select an appropriate narrow tire for your car, van or truck. For example, a 2012 Honda Accord EX Sedan would store its original 225/50R17-sized tires in favor of the 2012 Honda Accord SE Sedan's 215/60R16-sized winter tires on 16" wheels. While only a small dimensional difference, this combination will reduce your cost while increasing your vehicle's wintertime traction.

A Minus Size Tire and Wheel

Minus Sizing uses traditional Plus Sizing techniques in reverse. It combines taller profile tires with smaller diameter wheels. For example, the owner of a 2012 Volkswagen Jetta SEL would store the original 225/45HR17-sized tires in favor of a Minus One 205/55R16-size on 16" wheels (where the wheel diameter is 1" smaller and the tire's sidewalls are ½" taller) or Minus Two 195/65R15-size on 15" wheels (where the wheel diameter is 2" smaller and the tire's sidewalls are 1" taller).

When choosing base model sizing or minus sizing, not only would deep snow traction be enhanced, but the cost of a base model or minus sized Winter / Snow Tire & Wheel Package is usually lower than a package maintaining your vehicle's original size tires and wheels.

You can use our Winter Shop by Vehicle link or speak with one of our sales specialists to find tires that are right for you and the winter roads you drive on.

*Preferred Packages available for most vehicles. Most feature minus sizing for cost-effective winter traction.

  13. Just got this message this morning for the first time:

    Navigation SD Card Fault

Please insert a valid SD card

I have removed and reinserted the card that came with the Edge in February.

    Any suggestions.

I had the same thing happen to me on Saturday August 31, 2013 - I took the card out to make sure nothing had bumped it, then re-inserted it.

The same error came up at first, then the system ran through a couple of checks and it started working again. Still working

  14. The only concern I have is when someone tries to use a USA purchased PremiumCare at a Canadian dealership on a Canadian car, will the dealer try to weasel out of honouring it. My dealer mentioned that while the ESP is honoured throughout USA and Canada, that does not necessarily mean USA ESPs will always be honoured on Canadian cars purchased by Canadian residents. I have never heard of anyone that has actually successfully used the ESP in this situation... only promises and theoretical reasoning.

I've been eyeing this for a while now so I'm keeping my eyes peeled... :)

I have the ultimate relationship with my dealers service dept. and know this will not be a problem for me.

This group of Service Advisors and Managers is all about doing the right thing no matter what.

They have never let me down in the last 12 years (5 Fords) and they are the only reason I keep coming back to Ford.

They are the only Service Dept. that I have run into that treat my cars as if they were their own personal vehicle

Previous to Ford my wife and I have owned, (1) Dodge, (4)Chevy, (1) Mini, (1) Honda

In the next 4-5 months I will be out of the original warranty by being over 60,000KM and the ESP will kick in.

    I'll post when this happens
