Newbie (1/14)

  1. 2011 Limited with the stock 18" rims and AWD tires. Car does great in the NY snow. Just as good as the traded in BMW X3, which was terrific. The two Outbacks before that had nothing on the Edge. I guess Ford knows AWD.
  2. The problems are real, although I haven't posted on it. We love the car too, and hope no one else has them. On scale of 1 - 5 our MFT and SYNC problems rate a 2, Annoying, but not enough to post. Ford has come a long way in my opinion. We traded a BMW X3 for it, and bought it over the Volvo XC60, VW, GMC Terrain, Acura RDX, etc. Bravo Ford, and thank you.
  3. It's totally bolt-on. On a scale of 1 - 5, it's a 1. Maybe a 2 because you have to have the correct Star drivers and leaning over the car is a pain. Be sure to read the word "Front" to set them right.
  4. Good choice. You will love the backup camera.
  5. I bought and installed them. I'm sure they aren't as strong as the Thule or Yakima, and for a large load I'd put those on. But for driving around every day, the factory bars are sleeker and fit better. They'll be fine for lighter loads.
  6. For $1,700 more, get the Limited. You'll enjoy the features, and get some of that back when you sell it anyway.
  7. Dealer got it today. Delivery tomorrow. Just under 7 weeks.
  8. Mine was ordered on 9/22 (or so). Was built October 11 or 12. Still sitting around waiting for shipment, but I was told that some "dealer installed" stuff, like the cargo protection had caused it to be shipped elsewhere and come back. Still waiting for shipment. If it doesn't arrive (very) soon, we are just going to renew the BMW warranty, buy new tires, and drive the X3 for 2 more years. I'm thinking I am being squeezed for some last-minute games when it arrives. Would rather move forward, but they have to deliver.
  9. We should be getting our 2011 Ltd soon - if it ever ships that is - was built Oct 11 (12?) and still hasn't shipped. Anyway - maybe trade the grills? My wife likes the black.
  10. Dealer yesterday said it's still waiting to be loaded, but it had needed to be moved around for post-production installation of options, mainly the cargo protection and lighted sills. Oh well.
  11. Went with the Limited here. You can buy a grill and have it painted for a few dollars - some said as little as $200, but I'd figure $300. I can't imagine a "UV" without roof racks - can you get a Sport without the vista roof and get the roof rack? And there are some reported problems with the wheels. Can you get the hitch option? Nothing against the Sport at all, just showing how it didn't fit our needs.
  12. My two nickels.... a car is a big deal and a big expense. If you aren't going to paint it some exotic color, wait. If they know you are so anxious to buy it that you won't wait, but would rather put white paint over red, you'll a whole lot more than even renting some nice car for 2 months!
  13. Had been told it was built just after October 11. Was just told it's ready to be shipped.... "on the ramp" or something. He hopes (and I agree) that it will be deliverable before the end of the month. (I bet sooner).
  14. Keep the spare. My cousin's run flat blew out on him on a Friday afternoon. The place he was towed to didn't have the right size in stock, so he had to rent a car to get where he was going, and the shop was closed on Sunday, so he ended up renting the other car for a week. It was about a $600 ordeal between it all. Even a run flat can't run if it blows out.
