  1. sure it is paintable.. mask off, sand down, primer, paint... but I would see about warranty first

The only reason I'm considering painting them is because it might happen again next winter with new pieces,if the dealer agrees to replace them. I'm expecting that the new wheels I'm getting this week will do the same next winter if Ford hasn't done anything different in the way the wheels were processed originally.

  2. Thanks for the replies guys...as Craiger noted..it would be a wise investment to buy this tool. I've got new "chrome clad" wheels coming in this week..so while I'm there,I'll ask about the tool.

  3. I'm getting a set of new shoes on friday(ASA JH8 and 275-45-20's)from Tire rack and I would like to know if there is a over the counter tool to re-set my TPMS without having to go a tire dealer. Maybe it's too expensive, but I would like to do this procedure myself, instead of going to tire place twice a year. Any thoughts? Maybe a Ford tech might be listening? TIA

  4. well...add me to this long list of wheels that peeled and pitted after just 6000 miles. Dealer is ordering me a new set..service manager was a bit pissed..saying this is the the 4th set in the last week. Hopefully this set won't do the same after next winter.

  5. I am looking to get new rims/tires for my 07 Edge and according to Tire Racks website,if I get their TPMS for the new wheel combo, I have to "relearn" their system to work with the OEM. Does anyone know what this is all about? I don't want to use the OEM from the whhels I have now, because I'll be using them for winter only. Thanks for any input.

  6. Well I do not have the offset but I know rim for the EDGE 18" chrome clad has a backspacing of 5.75" whihc is the distance between the rim edge (not the lip) and the rotor interface. I measured this using a straight ruler sitting on the back edge and a caliper to measure the distance between the bottom of the ruler and the rotor interface.

The rim is marked at 18x7.5".

    If the Offset is = Rim width /2 - Backspace, you get: 7.5"/2 - 5.75" = -2" or 50mm

If I had measure the true rim width (lip to lip distance), the rim width is more like 8".

    So, 8"/2- 5.75"= -1.75" or 44.45mm

My guess is that the offset is 45mm not 35m

Thnak you very much. I'll probably go with the 45. I knew someone would have the answer.

  7. I'm having trouble setting the memory/seat feature on my new Edge. My wife uses #1 tranmitter and everything works great for her. I use #2 transmitter and the seat function works fine, but the mirror goes to a generic setting. I have to tip the mirror up when ever I use the car. I'll press "set" like it says in the maunual and within 5 secs I'll press the "lock" or "unlock" button on the transmitter, then press "2" on the set button. It will not stay there if I exit the car and lock the door, because when I unlock the door to re-entry,the mirror moves the generic seting. If I don't lock the door, the mirror won't move from the last time I set it. I hope this makes sense to someone, because I don't know what i could be doing wrong and the dealer said they couln't find anything wrong. Any help is greatly appreciated.

  8. After a couple of weeks the "patch" painting of a scuff mark(that I tried to remove with simple green and found out the dash is painted, not molded in the camel color) on our camel colored dash has started to yellow. Now the dealer has to replace the entire top of the dash which means that EVERYTHING comes out including the seats and will take approx 1 week to finish. Needless to say, I'm very nervous that I'll have a rattle/squeak trap for the rest of the time I have this vehicle...hopefully they will get it done right the 1st time without a bunch of repeat trips for minor issues, such as this doesn't work anymore, etc. Would anybody else feel this way? Would you have complete faith in any dealer to do this right? Thanks for reading...I'll post results when I get the car back.

  9. Detailed our new Edge last weekend and noticed a scuff mark on the dash panel near the A-pillar close to the windshield, tried to remove it with simple green/Mr Clean magic eraser...took the paint right off(I have the camel int). Took it to the dealer the next day and they said they could fix it without removing/replacing the panel. Got it back today and you'd be hard pressed to tell where they worked....needless to say, I'm very impressed with them. Also got the plastic bezel trim around the rear moonroof(I have the vista roof)repaired..no more rattle..at least for now. Looks like I made a smart choice buying from this dealer. Just my .02..you usually don't get many GOOD reports from dealership service depts.

  10. So what color is it under the paint? Sounds like it's black from previous posts.

If it is, just one more reason I'm glad to have the charcoal interior... this, less reflection problem and I like it's looks.

Yes I would say that the panel is cast in black and painted to match the interior. As long as I'm wearing sunglasses, the glare issue isn't a problem for me.

  11. My 3day old Edge has a scuff mark on the dash up by the drivers A-pillar(on the light brown surface..I have camel int.),and I tried to remove it with Mr Clean magic-eraser...BIG mistake..now I have a brown magic-eraser...went to the dealer today and they said it could be fixed without replacing the panel. Have an appt. on 8/2..we'll see if they can fix it...from now on just a damp cloth and some Aerospace 303.

  12. I answered in your original post about your rattle, but here ya go....

Open the sunshade and then get in thd back seat. look up through the rear vista roof panel and there's a piece of black trim that goes around the under side of the glass. It's held in with double sided tape and it it's loose, will hange lower than it should be and rattle over bumps. On ours, I just pushed it back into place and pressed down all the way around the trim to make sure it was stuck down good. others may need to add more double sided tape.

Thanks for the fast response...I see what you are talking about..I pressed mine back in place also and will monitor it to see if it becomes loose again.

  13. 2007 MKX with vista roof. There is a rattle that has appeared at 1900 miles. I've checked the seats, plastic panels, and spare tire covers. Made sure it is not the spare tire covers by

adding foam insulation. Still got rattles! Any ideas?

    Thanks,

    Cobra

I have the same rattle on my 3day old Edge and I'm not exactly sure where your description of the black platic bezel is located. Could you be more precise or take a pic where the rattle source is? Thanks.
