  1. I bought mine new in Oct 2010 and from that day till approx last month I was averaging 18MPG all around driving. Now since it is warming up I have jumped up to 24MPG one time but staying steady at 23MPG now all around driving. I have just under 5000 miles on it. I am guessing it will fluctuate for another month or so and then stabilize.

    2011 Edge SE 2WD

Getting 17 MPG around town and 22-23 on the highway - 2011 LTD AWD - less than 1K miles. I'll be interested to see how it does after break-in and the first oil change when I go to synthetic oil . It used to boost the mileage in my previous Jeep a bit.

  2. Again we agree to disagree.

I am assuming you have never personally used a K+N filter or any top end oiled filter for a long extended period of time?

K+N cant post results just on the filter alone cause everybody drives differently, in a perfect world we would all drive the same.

And nope I just installed a K+N filter, driving habits stayed the same. Actually a tuneup was done 3 years after the K+N install but the MPG stayed the same, my bad I did a break job right after that is what gave me the 2MPG gain I guess along with the car wash (sarcasm). Oh and yes there was a clean new filter in my Windstar when I replaced it, I actually still have it cause I use this between Cleanings if I ever have to drive it.

Oh and in the Explorer my Wife never knew I changed the filter with a K+N, she probably still doesnt know or care it is in there. When I rarely drive it I do check the MPG when I fill it up. How do you explain a gain in MPG on a vehicle where the driver does not know any changes were done? The Explorer averages only a 1MPG gain and rarely hits 2MPG gain. Still a 1MPG gain does save gas in the long run.

Oh and the Windstar was owned for 1 full year before the K+N was installed. The Explorer was owned appox 2 1/2 years before the K+N was installed and was delayed due to buying a new House and a Child Birth. My reasoning's is I never stick addons or unnecessary cash into a used vehicle till it has proved its worth for a year or so. I didnt even mod my 1992 Mustang or 2001 Corvette for over 1 year.

So was the 2 MPG increase just in my imagination then even though after every fill up I check the math just to make sure nothing is wrong with my vehicle? And yes I do check the MPG after every single fill up just to make sure everything is working properly.

I suppose you also think this is BS too even though it has a guarantee. They even state it gives a 1-3MPG increase.

  3. No need to show it on K+N I have my own proof that I experienced, I also never stated K+N claims this but they do give a Gain in HP in the intake systems and all they are is smoothed out tubes that do not restrict air flow however some people say it is impossible to do this with mass air systems http://www.knfilters.com/cold_air_intakes.htm . If I did state this anywhere please direct me to the post.

You can read FAQ #1 if you wish.

  4. If you got it brand new what was the part number on the package?

I have completed the install. All is working fine. I basically tapped into the power and ground wires for the existing mirror plug. I then hid that plug in the headliner. Everything is working great and it has been installed for over a month. The compass oin my mirror is built into the mirror so there was no need to tap into anything for that part. i love my homelink and found the mirror on ebay for $179 brand new. And to make it even better, it was a ford mirror so it looks 100% stock.

  5. I wouldnt plug them up, Ford just doesnt add holes in the bottom of the doors for nothing..... They are drains. Every automobile door has these..... Everyone go look at other cars and see for your self! If there were no drain holes in doors do you know how heavy they would be after it rained and filled them up? All doors leak water internally, not alot but a little and they need to drain or at least breathe to exchange the moist air out.

Now the Ford engineers designed the Edge with out door seals where you installed them for a reason to keep trapped water out and to let them drive out by air flowing over them during driving. I imagine this may void any rust warranties in this area now since you plugged up a drain hole and blocked out the natural engineered flow of water and air.

I am guessing when the door was assembled some metal shavings got in there from reaming out a hole to attach some inner part of the door mechanism and that is where the rust comes from. If it was true in your case that you determined my Edge would have a rusted door too living up in Wisconsin where they coat the roads heavily with salt all winter long..... No rust in my doors!!!!

I install GPS tracking systems part time (when jobs are available) and I have to drill holes in the roofs to add roof mounted antennas. When I do this if I do not clean up all the small metal shavings there is guaranteed to be small rust spots everywhere after the 1st rain.

  6. HMM my Edge 425 miles at 23 MPG is my average.

Your math does not add up.... do you have a bigger fuel tank than stock?

See if you look at my math 425 miles divided by 23MPG = 18.47 gallons of gas used

Your math is 467 miles divided by 16.3MPG = 28 gallons of gas used..... Now I do not know of any Edge with a 28 gallon tank.

You have to reset the settings right after and every time you fill up or you will get inaccurate readings. Sounds like there was 10 gallons of gas in your Edge when you bought it and then your Wife filled it up and never reset the settings!

wifes new edge... first fill up... 467 miles......avg 16.3 .....

    all city driving...

  7. You will gain more MPG cause the K+N flows better all around.

I know the mass air and blaa blaa blaa but explain why my 1998 Windstar and 1998 Explorer both gained approx 2 MPG with the K+N switch? Both have mass air and are fuel injected.

Remember the engine is really an air pump, the more efficiently it can pump air the easier it is to spin. Now with a restrictive stock filter and a high flowing K+N the engine can breathe better with the K+N so the engine works not as hard via the stock filter.

Now the only reason why I dont have a K+N yet in my Edge is cause I only have 4400 miles on it and the engine is still new. This summer when temps stabilize I will drop in a K+N and post the results.

And If stock filters flow so much better and get the same MPG why do all aftermarket Turbo or Supercharger kits come with Oiled Filters? I know my Paxton was shipped with a K+N.

  8. On a few of my cars I have well over 100k with K+N filters installed, no engine problems and no burning oil.

The oiled filter catches the bigger particles of airborne dust.

The K+N filter Simply outflows stock filters.

Now for getting engine oil dirty... My oil is as clean as it is with or with out a stock filter. I even went purposely and installed my stock filter back in for 1 oil change.... Oil looked just as dirty as with the K+N.

I believe the postings of K+N filters letting big chunks of dirt through and all the other stuff is just rumors... Never saw a hard fact yet. You would think that the makers of stock type filters that do advertise on TV would go out of their way to let people know Oiled filters can damage engines if it was true just to sell their products!

  9. Nope just a joke ( It is still April ). You know them Apple guys would never touch MS devices! That is why I said it was tethered so you couldn't drive your Edge plus after the latest battle that Geohot had with Sony and the PS3 I am sure he is concentrating on just Apple for the time being.

Wait, the Apple guys are hacking the MS Sync? I can't find anything about it... go a linky? I'm interested.

  10. Current Ford Edge Jailbreak is Greenp0ison 1.0 however it is tethered so you can not drive your Edge at this time, however Geohot is currently working on an untethered Greenp0ison 1.1 which should be untethered and your Edge will be drivable.

Ok that sounds like great news!!! I tested mine on heat but that can be misleading. Thanks Cal for the test. Looks like yet one more reason that I love our new edge. Now if only someone can jailbreak it like i do my iphone......????

  11. Just cut a notch in the mat or use a zip tie to hold the wires up. You could even go far enough to remove the seat, cut the wires and extend them so you can reroute them..... This is what I would do to permanently fix the issue.

The felt will eventually wear away and you would be back to square one.

I guess I am just used to my Wife and I using the same seat settings.
