  1. Update. The dealership has had car for a week. They don't have water pump yet as it is only available from the manufacturer (not Ford). Picked up loaner car yesterday, and they told my wife that Ford had told them they were not sure it was in fact water pump but take things apart to determine that. They then told her "it could be a long time", as they had never seen anythng like this. Ahhh.
  2. 2007 SEL AWD. Been through the seal problems. After 2/3 times got that fixed. Wife gets to works Tuesday and notices a lot of liquid running from front left, coating wheel well, running back through frame. Has to be a couple quarts. Calls me and it is brown and slippery. I think seal leak. Check oil. ok. Check transmission. Ok. Visually check brake fluid, other radiator hoses etc. All appear ok. I go over at end of day when she starts it and only a drip or two on ground of new parking space. Dealer says bring right in. We do next day and again only about a half dollar sized spot on driveway. Same brown. They can't find for first day. Do dye test, and call and tell us water pump. Also that it is 13 hours labor because of where it is located. And will take 4-5 days to get part and fix. Warranty, so for now cost is not an issue, but at this rate I can't see keeping at end of lease. Couple questions. I've never known antifreeze to be light brown and slick. Is it because it's the extended life? Next, 13 hours for a water pump? And why water pump go on 12 month old car (bought in June, 2007). Any ideas? She likes the car, except the gas mileage, but this is 4th warranty trip in 12 months and I'm getting nervous.
  3. Whoever said I alredy knew the answer gets the gold star. We brought the 2007 Edge in Monday. Dropped off copies of this topic. They said it was very helpful (big dealer, so I would bet they have seen the problem, but maybe not?). Kept car until Tuesday and replaced seal. I asked why if they knew that generally failed. I was told they were told by Ford they had to start with the "least" repair and work up. (I'm sure they meant to get reimbursed for warranty work). By Thursday, the smell was back, worse than ever. My wife called and asked if it could be residual leakage. She was told no, they cleaned it well. So back this week we go.
  4. We dropped off my wife's 2007 Edge today. Have had the burning smell for some time. Realized after reading here that it is the PTU. They said they had to replace seals. I have read here that won't work, it needs to be entire unit. Any hope? Or am I just looking at bringing it back in a few weeks to have entire unit replaced? I printed out parts of this thread and gave it to them. They said it was "helpful". Any chance I am the first one at this dealership with this problem? It is a large Ford dealer in South Jersey.
