    This is not correct. The 2011+ Edges have a 63.4mm hub diameter. You can use the 2009 Edge wheels just fine with an adapter ring.

  2. I got my Edge with the factory 18s and replaced them with 20s since I didn't like how either factory 18s or 20s looked. Something I did not realize when I bought my Edge is that the vehicles that come with factory 20s have a slightly lower gear ratio, presumably to help offset the slightly higher weight of the larger wheels. So if I had to do it over I would probably opt for the factory 20s just to get that lower gearing since it would be nice to have a little more punch while accelerating off the line and while cruising on the highway in top gear.

     

    As far as how the 18s vs 20s ride, there is definitely a difference but it's not huge. My last two vehicles were sporty VWs so I prefer the sportier feel of the 20s - it feels more "planted" and less "floating." If you prefer a smoother ride go with the 18s.

  3. Here are my rules of thumb, depending on what oil I'm using:

     

    conventional - 5000mi

    synthetic blend - 7500mi

    full synthetic - 10000mi

     

    The oil % life in our vehicles definitely seems like an interesting feature but I'm not sure that I trust it very much without knowing exactly what it's measuring or taking into account. It would also be nice to get some used oil analyses done to see how close the computer's calculation is to the actual condition of the oil.

  4. The segments you see next to the wheels when you're accelerating are supposed to indicate the amount of power that is being sent to the front and/or rear wheels, kind of like a bar graph. The more segments you see next to the front or rear wheels, the more power is being sent to them. So the AWD is kicking in when you see segments below the rear wheels.

  5. Your best bet would probably be ebay. The chrome clad part (plastic part) is not detachable from the wheel itself so yes you do need to get the whole thing.

     

    It's probably possible to replace just the plastic part if you really knew what you were doing, but I don't believe you can buy it separately so you'd still need another whole wheel anyway.

    I don't get the feeling that anyone here is bitching and griping with each other. Nor do I get the feeling that anyone besides you is annoyed by our discussions of MFT. In fact, this is one of the most well behaved automotive forums I've ever been on. We're all just REALLY pissed that we spent a LOT of money on a vehicle and one of its main selling points turned out to be so poorly executed. If you can't understand that then nothing I say will help.

     

    I'll start another thread for the people who just want reliable information without having to listen to all of the crap.

    See... it's "crap" to you because you don't have to deal with MFT. To me it's absolutely not "crap" and I would like to be able to discuss it with other people who are in the same position that I'm in... hence the purpose of an internet forum. If you're not going to allow us to discuss whatever we want about our vehicles - assuming we stay within the forum rules - then please let me know and I will stop contributing here.

  7. I don't think it will offer any extra power, for that they would need multiple maps so that they can change boost levels. If they had this capability they would surely advertise it and list this in the vehicles capabilities. In this country horsepower ratings sell cars so if they could bump it even 10-15 they would.

    You don't necessarily need to increase the boost pressure to increase the engine's power output. As akirby said above, if they were to only increase the timing they could definitely get a few extra hp from using premium fuel, which is what seems very likely given what's printed in the owners' manual.

    Actually, after doing a little bit of reading it seems that the advertised hp numbers for all of the Ford Ecoboost engines are achieved using premium fuel, but they will also run on regular. So if you're not using premium, it doesn't sound like you get the advertised power from your engine. I found the Explorer's official spec sheet, here. Note that it says "240 @ 5,500 rpm (premium fuel)."

  8. Without tuning increasing the octane will do nothing for power unless you are running really hot like towing. When it gets hot the charge temps rise and the intercooler ins't as effective so you run the risk of pinging so the higher octane will allow you to maintain power a little longer and hopefully avoid heat soak.

    I don't think that's quite correct. It sounds like Ford's factory program for the 2.0L Ecoboost will compensate for different octane levels, which means that using premium fuel definitely would increase the power. I'm guessing it's only about 10-15hp more with premium, but the fact that they allowed for different fuel grades is pretty cool.

    It may be moot to you since you don't own a vehicle with MFT, however I like to educate myself as much as possible about my vehicle and learn about how things actually work. To me, part of that means coming here and being able to read about other people's experiences and opinions in addition to posting mine. I find your constant pooh-poohing of every post that criticizes MFT to be quite annoying.

    Yeah, same here. The only thing I've received is the pleasure of wasting half a dozen trips to the dealership and having to deal with service writers who treat me like I'm an idiot because they don't have a clue on how software works, how it's updated, and how it could possibly not work after I received an update. "What do you mean you are still having the same problems? You received the latest update!" :censored:

  11. Hey this exact same thing happened to me when I tried upgrading to 2.11! I have tried resetting MFT multiple times both by pulling the fuse and using the menu option. I have also tried downloading the update several times on several different flash drives. Every time I try to run the update I get this error message. I also cannot run the status checker.

     

    The new MFT software cannot come soon enough... :censored:

  12. I noticed this same behavior when I replaced my wheels. My new wheels did have TPMS sensors but they were not programmed yet. Also, I had my old wheels in the garage so I think it was reading those sensors. Drive it for a while and I think you'll get a fault almost every time, although it did seem quite random sometimes.

  13. So if you'd only paid HALF that much do you think it would be ok? If somebody paid twice as much as you should they be twice as upset?

    I paid significantly more than the average new vehicle price. I expect an above average vehicle.

     

    I'd be upset if Ford wasn't attempting to fix it. It appears that not only are they attempting to fix it but they're improving it at the same time.

    I've already wasted about half a dozen trips to the dealership to get updates that attempted to fix all the problems and I'm not much better off now than I was when I bought my Edge almost a year ago. Granted, I do have a little more faith that this new upgrade will be better, however the new information I found yesterday is a little concerning.

     

    Who did the coding and the exact hardware details are moot as long as the product works and all indications are that it does. Until someone can prove that it doesn't it's silly to give yourselves a heart attack worrying about it.

    By "all indications" are you referring to the Ford press release and handful of videos of the Ford display vehicle? Please forgive me if I'm a little bit skeptical. Also, the details are absolutely not moot if the demo videos we've seen were using systems running newer/faster hardware than what we have in our vehicles.
