  1. I never considered that. Admittedly when I think back, some of the time I was doing voice commands, and some of the time I was pressing the screen. It seems like I can recall it doing this (turning the radio on) even when I was just pressing the screen but maybe it was only happening during voice changes. I'll experiment a little on the way home and report back. Even if it is only happening for voice commands it still seems kind of odd to me...
  2. OK, I think I may have found a new bug. And this one is really easy to reproduce. For the record my car is running 2.7 software. So I'm traveling this past weekend with friends so I have the audio system turned "Off". This is confirmed with the screen saying the system is Off. I'm still using the Nav, and occasionally switching between that and the Travellink screens. Each time I would switch between those systems it would turn my audio system back on! No lies. Sometimes it would come on to my USB stick, other times it would come on with the last radio station I was listening to. Each time I would hit the power button in the middle of the volume knob to turn it back off, but it was kind of embarrassing, especially when I was trying to show off to begin with. So has anyone else seen this one? Or am I doing something wrong? I can't imagine the later would be the case, why would switching from nav to the weather map require turning the radio on?
  3. I'm just glad I wasn't the only person that was stumped by this one. Honestly, unless I missed it I don't think this is really explained in any of the owner's manuals, but maybe I missed it?
  4. I have seen the hourglass issue before with the weather. It eventually fixed itself for me as well. I have had one other weird thing with the weather map. At one point we used the search tool to look up weather in another area of the country. After doing that every time I would start up the car an go to the weather map instead of focusing the map on my current location it would instead focus on the last area we had searched for. It kept this up for several days. The 5 Day Fourcast screen would always default to "nearby area" as it always had. Eventually I did a search on my nearby area and now my map comes on centered on my car location. Seems kind of weird that you would have to do that, maybe it's a feature instead of a bug?
  5. I am making the assumption that I was not the only person that was confused by all of this. If so I appologize for starting this topic. For the longest time I have been competely baffled by volume issues with the MFT system. I've read the online owner's manual several times and it really didn't help. My issues were, I could adjust the radio while it was playing music via the volume knob on the radio, but other audio sources (phones calls via bluetooth, voice prompts from the system, and in particular the navigation voice) were all at different levels. In particular the navigation voice seemed to have NO way to adjust it at all. There is a listed voice command called "navigation voice volume decrease" but every time I attempted that it seemed to just be lowering the regular voice system volume, but then navigation prompts would come on again and blast me out of the car. Here is the secret: The system is comprised of 4 different sections (entertainment source, bluetooth phone calls, voice prompts, navigation prompts), and each one is adjusted individually via either the rotory volume knob (or the volume adjustment on the steering wheel). But you have to do your adjustment right at the moment that said "source" is in control of the audio system! So to adjust the phone, you have to turn the knob while you are on a phone call. To adjust the navigation prompts, you have to turn the knob right in the middle of a direction. Etc, etc. Each one seems to store it's own volume level. And for the life of me, I have never found a way via the menu system to adjust either the phone volume or the navigation voice volume without doing it the way I describe. Honestly, I don't think there is any other way to do it. Hopefully this helps someone out. I know I had personally come to dread using my nav as it was so loud and I couldn't figure out how to turn it down. Maybe I'm just dense, but it wasn't overly intuitive to me.
  6. I hadn't received my letter either but my dealership was able to look it up when I took it in. So there should be no charge for 2.7 update. The $50 question going forward will be, will they eventually want to be paid to do future updates? My understanding is that all MFT updates so far have been attached to either a recall or a letter, I wonder if eventually the updates will be considered more minor and therefore Ford will want us to pay for this? If that is the case those updates need to be able to be performed by us via the syncmyride web site mechanism. That way tech savy folks like myself can choose to do the update themselves, and those that aren't are able to pay the dealership for them if they want them. At least that is my 2 cents. If there is ever an update that I can't do myself that I have to pay for I will move from a very satisfied customer to not pretty quickly, especially if my car is still under the bumper to bumper warranty.
  7. Ford is sending out letters to let the customers know about the update, although not everyone has gotten a letter so far (I have not). Maybe some dealers are recommending it as people come in for other things like oil changes? I don't know. As one poster said above, their dealer updated all the cars in their inventory so the word of these updates is spreading. I noticed one more change last night that I *think* was a result of the 2.7 upgrade. I was talking on the phone, and had the navigation going, and when it needed to tell me a direction it just did the "bong" sound instead of interrupting my conversation with the spoken direction. It seems like I can remember it not working that way under 2.4, so that is another nice change to the new release of software. It could have been due to different settings between now and then, but I think I have everything set the same on settings. I continue to be impressed with the performance of 2.7.
  8. OK, this one has been bugging me for the past couple of months. Can anyone tell me what "Calendar" and "Notifications" under the "i" Information menu actually do on the MFT system? Every time I've played with it the car was moving so I assumed it was locked out. But yesterday I when to both entries with the car in park and they don't seem to do anything, other than the calendar will display the months and years. Notification seems to have buttons to remove entries, but how does anything get in there? I would assume this was a system where the user could put in their own appointments and such, but if that is the case I can't figure out how you would input such information. Thanks in advance for anyone that knows the obvious trick I must be missing. And I did check the online MFT user manual and it really wasn't any help on this either.
  9. This is why I plan on getting all the updates that are put out for the system, and as quickly as they come out. Being dissatisfied with how a piece of software works but never bothering to update said software is kind of like complaining about the person that is elected to an office when you didn't bother to go out and vote. The price of admission to complain about this thing needs to be that you are at least doing your part by getting the updates they put out. Now I'll climb down off of my high horse and report what I've noticed so far about 2.7. My car was previously running 2.4, and I've only had it two months and it has never had anything lower than 2.4. First thing, there was some very brief talk about trying to get us to pay for this update. This was the first service advisor that was writing up the order. He asked if we had recieved any letters about it and my wife admitted we had not gotten it yet. The other service adisor told #1 there was a letter going around and printed it out for him. So there was no charge for the update. Just thought I'd mention that in case it helps someone out. They had the car for a little more than a hour for this update. They told the wife they had to "Flash the whole system". Be aware, you will lose all your navigation favorites, your phone pairings, your system settings you have changed, and you will have to call Sirius to get your sattelite music going again. For whatever reason the Travellink stuff, my radio presets, and "MyTemp" were all retained during the update. Go figure. Changes so far are pretty minor. Screen transistion and button response seems to be better in some cases. In others I still notice more lag than you would expect. I noticed some screen changes in the Travellink stuff, especially related to the weather map in that they now give you an obvious exit button when you are there. The seat heater buttons are more responsive for sure, but they still don't time out after 15 minutes from what I could tell like the manual says they should. My USB flash drive with music on it seems to be working a little smoother than before, but then I wasn't having too much trouble with it to begin with aside from having to turn off Autoplay to keep it from switching to USB when I would power cycle the car. I'll keep an eye out for anything else, but so far I would recommend the update. Maybe it fixes some other problems that some are having that I wasn't experiencing to begin with?
  10. I haven't gotten my hands on my car yet, but my wife is reporting speed improvements. She says screen transistions and button response are both noticably improved. And my car was already running GEN2.4. I would have to say, if you are still on the previous generation you should see a lot of improvement. For sure, if you never upgrade from GEN1 it will never work any better than it does now. So I think you can officially say there are several examples of improved performance on these forums from folks that have upgraded...
  11. Tom, can I ask what the 911 issue is? I know I put 2 contacts in there when I first got the car, and about a month later I checked and they were cleared out. I assumed it was caused when my phone lost it's pairing with the system, which only happened one time when I was on a call with SYNC Services. Otherwise I haven't seen any problems (although obviously until I have a serious wreck I guess I wouldn't really know whether it is working or not).
  12. OK, so my wife just called to say that they completed the update to 2.7 on my Edge. Car was there just over an hour. That it is running 2.7 is confirmed via me checking the syncmyride web site, so that is good. She has confirmed that the navigation works, that is good. Travel-link is still there. Backup camera is working. She is already reporting that system response time to button presses is noticeably improved, especially the seat heaters, which is good now that it's springtime. :-) Losses during the upgrade: My free trial to Sirius music is gone, but from what the dealership told her that should be nothing more than a phone call to have them re-activate it. Navigation favorites are all gone which we expected. Going forward I will be less OCD on transferring all those over until it looks like there will be no more upgrades for a while, lesson learned there but I can live with that. All phone pairings are gone but that is not a big deal either. Once I get my hands on it tonight I will post additional comments (positive and negative). But so far so good, and they do in fact seem to be correcting things. Update: One quick call to Sirius and a provided vehicle VIN number and the radio is working again already. So far so good on this update...
  13. You guys have me worried. My Edge is enroute to the dealer right now to get this update via the wife who is doing me a favor. I haven't had any problems yet with the service department at my dealership so I am going at this optimistically, but I did give her a short list of things to verify if they were working before she leaves based on this thread. I'll report back good or bad when the update is finished.
  14. Did they charge you for the update? Or attempt to charge you? I'm assuming as long as you are experiencing problems they will do this under warrenty, correct?
  15. So, my dealer is supposed to install 2.7 on my car tomorrow. This will be the first update to the software they have performed for me. The guy said they would only need the car for an hour. Should I assume it will take longer than that? I am *assuming* that the lengthy visits to the dealership early on would indicate the technitions didn't know what they were doing and that things are better now? Or am I kidding myself?
  16. I can understand your hesitation to get the latest updates. But, in fairness to Ford, if you aren't getting the latest releases of their software then you really can't complain about stuff that isn't working. Even if the last release caused someone else problems those issues might not manifest on your system, but then it could also be very possible that some (or maybe all) of the issues you are having would have been addressed with it. For the most part I think it's fair to say that each update Ford has posted has made things better than they were on previous updates. Did any update completely fix everyone's problems 100%, no. But it seems to be moving in the right direction. I would not fear the updates unless people start reporting they introduce new problems.
  17. I think if you do the deal where you load the utility that is available on the syncmyride web site onto a flash drive, take it out to the car and load it there, and then bring the flash drive back and upload it back to the web site everything will show your updated software. At least that is how it's supposed to work. That is why there is perpetually a download available on your account, it gives you a null thing to load just to get the history updated.
  18. Thanks Tom, that does make sense. I believe I am having enough problems to justify them performing the update. I will work it that way when I go in. But that said, I would definetly have a problem with Ford attempting to charge me for maintenance releases of software. Frankly, I would happily perform them myself if they were available for download on the web site. And with a product that is experiencing as many issues as MFT I would think any customer would be entitled to these updates for free. We aren't talking new navigation software data, these are essentially bug fixes. Even if they added functionality isn't there a lot of functionality that was promised but has not appeared yet? I'll climb off my high horse now, but honestly, if the time ever comes where these updates become a cost issue I think we should have it explained as to why that would be the case.
  19. Here's a question for everyone that has had the dealer update their SYNC software (regardless of the release). They aren't charging for this are they? I stopped in to my service advisor and asked him to schedule an appointment to upgrade my SYNC software as I had been having some problems and I knew there was a newer version available, and at first he acted like he didn't even understand what I was talking about. Then he went ahead and scheduled the appointment, but he mumbled something about how he didn't know how much it would be. I understand that even with a bumper to bumper that I'm still paying for fluids and filters and wear items like wiper blades, etc, but I would just assume that software upgrades would be included as warrantly work. Yes or no? Basically, has anyone still within their bumper-to-bumper period had to pay for software updates?
  20. The previous post may hold the answer to this already, but does anyone know if 2.7 requires a visit to the dealer? Or will it be flash drive updatable via the syncmyride.com web site?
  21. This is good to know guys, thanks for the responses. I suppose I could just turn it back on when it times out, but if we catch a triple feature that would be about 3 thirty minute accessory mode cycles per movie, times 3 movies. That is a lot of shutoff nuisence to deal with, plus the fact that there is probably a good reason for the shutoff that says I may have a dead battery if I tried this. Looks like it's a portable boom box or another car for drive in theatre night!
  22. Can I ask what the "clock/calendar" problem is? The reason I ask is my wife was playing around with the calendar the last time we were in the car but could not get it to work correctly. And now (possibly related?) this morning I noticed that nothing within the "Sirius Travellink" screen is working at all. In fact, there aren't even any menu button when I go there, it's just all blank. I plan on stopping off at the dealer on the way home to show them, but I'm just wondering if playing around with the calendar screen could have been the root cause of my other woes.
  23. I agree. The only complaint is that it takes some getting used to it until you trust it to slow itself down.
  24. I realize this may not be a widespread problem for a lot of folks, but there is a nicely restored Drive In theater near our home that we go to a couple of times a year. We had hoped to take the new Edge and make use of not only the awesome Sony stereo, but also to be able to open the BAMR on nice evenings. The problem is I have noticed on my particular vehicle (2011 Limited with IAK push button start) that they have programmed in a 30 minute battery saver mode that shuts down the radio. Additionally (and this is probably the main reason for the 30 minute timeout), there seems to be no way to just run the radio without running all 3 of the MFT LCD screens. I have probably already answered my own question, but does anyone know if there is any way to trick the radio into playing longer than 30 minutes? On the screen issue I'm assuming I could run the dimmer control all the way down, but not sure if they are still drawing power anyway. I don't want to end up with a dead battery. Any suggestions, aside from bringing a battery powered radio with me.
  25. Tom, one other thing that should be mentioned before you call. There has been a lot of talk on this (and other) forums about negotiating with Sirius on the music portion to get a better deal. I won't repeat everything said, but suffice it to say you can do a lot better on your renewal than what they usually offer you the first time (or in the mail). I would research before calling them.
