  1. This happened to me over the weekend as well on a trip. My understanding is that the channel lineups have just changed and our radios had to download the new information. Mine seemed to be stuck on the down part of our trip (about 2 hours), but by the next morning everything was working fine. I still have an occational problem where my "Browse" feature in Sirius will just seem to hang or will come up with a blank screen, but I have seen that before this latest update.
  2. I would agree with this as well. The Windows CE platform is used in thousands of ATMs, medical devices, scanners, etc, and is in itself very stable and reliable. You have 3 things in SYNC (hardware platform, operating system (Microsoft), and the SYNC application itself). The first 2 appears to be solid, it's the app which is currently problematic.
  3. My car was delivered with an ambient lighting problem as well. Just let the dealer sort it out for you. On my car the passenger front door lighting color would be the wrong color for most of the settings. Turned out to be a broken wiring harness going to that door. Took 2 trips to the dealer to fix, according to the repair slip it cost $450 to fix, so be glad you noticed it now while it's under warranty. :-)
  4. Wilson's 3.2 release may not be far away at this rate. At this point my wife is pretty much on a first name basis with the service advisors at our Ford dealer. Given that I see improvements with every release my intention is to keep up with the latest releases unless that changes, or they come out with one where I can't find anything that I consider show stopping.
  5. So another update on my Travellink problem. Even though I don't believe the Master System Reset had any effect on fixing it at all, it eventually worked it's way out over the weekend and fixed itself. So that was good. The bad: 2.8 didn't fix the problem of my audio automatically switching itself over to my USB thumbdrive while the car was being turned on. That happened again on Sunday. So in the SYNC Media Player settings I have again turned Autoplay off which seems to be a workaround fix for this for the time being. The Zombie audio problem is still fixed so that is something I guess. I have also noticed some system lag, especially in the first couple of minutes of being in the car. Things like hitting the voice command but not hearing the response bong noise until 20 seconds later. This does seem to work itself out after the first couple of minutes but it is bad enough to mention.
  6. I contacted SYNC tech support yesterday and they suggested doing a "Master System Reset" to fix my hourglassing Travellink stuff. I did that and it made no difference. Also, my understanding is the Travellink stuff downloads over the satellite connection. So I'm not sure why a paired phone number would have any effect on that?
  7. I haven't seen any messages about Sirius updating. Maybe that is what is wrong with my Travellink stuff?
  8. Since I've been a proponent of people getting this 2.8 update I want to admit some problems I have been experiencing as well. Maybe I mess with this Travellink stuff more than the average owner, I'm not sure, but for whatever reason most of my Travellink options have been hung up with the dreaded hourglass for the past 3 days, and when I try to go to the weather directly with a voice command it comes back and says "Acquiring" with a pop up message that it will take a few minutes to download the information. Also, I have noticed that my Sirius Music Channel Guide will hang up most times I try to pull that up as well. The weird thing on the Travellink stuff is both "Sports" and "Ski Conditions" are working, but everything else is stuck on the hourglass deal. Kind of handy since I'm not into either one. :-)
  9. I got the latest update by coming to this forum and hearing that it was available. To my knowledge there have been no updates that have been downloadable via the syncmyride web site, maybe there will be in the future? I also have never received any letters or emails from Ford. I just found out here and went to my dealer and asked for the update.
  10. Having had 2.7 as well I might disagree with this a bit. I have seen several things fixed just between those two releases. Of course, it's your car and your time so I completely understand if you want to wait for something better but my immediate impression between the two is that 2.8 is a better place to be.
  11. It really does make you wonder why different folks running the same software can be having such different experiences. Unlike a normal PC environment where everyone is running different combinations of hardware with different 3rd party software loaded this MFT really is a pretty homogenious and closed system. We all have identical hardware, processors, memory, etc. The only variability would be connected bluetooth phones and devices and whatever is plugged into the USB, but it doesn't seem like external devices should really be able to cause all this havoc. Certainly I put my car into reverse which activates the backup camera probably as much as anyone else and that has never locked up my system. It is truely odd.
  12. Yes, my system will say something along those lines after a turn. If your next turn will be coming up quickly it will let you know that ahead of time as well. If your next turn is a long way away, it may not necessarily tell you the number of miles, I'm not 100% sure.
  13. I have to say that I would expect the 2013 to potentially offer more bells and whistles than the 2011 version does. This is the nature of selling technology products, if they sold the same thing for 5 years why would people keep buying it? But that said, if Ford decides to leave us behind with bugs or a poorly functioning interface I will remember that favor and buy accordingly going forward, and I'm a huge Ford fan and supporter. There is so much of this car that is integral with this MFT system it needs to be a working a solid system. Of course I'm talking worst case. Right now I'm on 2.8 and while it's not 100% perfect I could probably live with how it is working now.
  14. Agree with you except for my first issue. I was talking about the screen based weather stuff, not the SYNC weather service. Basically the Travellink system. And also in fairness to the folks here that have experienced other problems I have no idea if 2.8 will fix those. For instance, my calender and clock have always been correct since they day I bought the car so I never had that issue to begin with.
  15. I've had 2.8 for the past weekend so i thought I would start a new thread on what I have noticed or experienced so far. Even though I briefly had 2.7 on my car my comments will be generally referring to the differences I've noticed between 2.4 and 2.8 as my car was built with 2.4 in January. The good news: 1) The audio system turning itself on when performing a voice command has been fixed (IE, zombie audio system). 2) Button responses are improved, particularly seat heater buttons. 3) No mid-driving system reboots have been noted so far. 4) No navigation failure messages have been seen yet. 5) I have left my USB device plugged in, and also have left "Autoplay" set to yes, but the system has not tried to switch my audio source when I start the car to USB without me telling it to switch. So it looks like no more need for the setting of the Autoplay to No workaround. The not as good news: 1) Once you search for any place other than "nearby" on the weather map it now seems to want to go to that location automatically any time you go directly to the weather map. Pressing either current weather or 5 day forecast will correctly show info for my current location, and then switching back to the map and it's corrected. Seems like a bug to me. 2) I uploaded a new location via Google maps but it was not available for download via SYNC on Saturday. For whatever reason it was there this morning. This would probably be more of an issue with the SYNC service than the software my car was running, but I figured I would mention it anyway. 3) I have noticed several time that SYNC movie services will give me all the information on local movies except for showtime. This happened again this morning. I selected a movie that I know is still playing (verified), but the SYNC system told me there were no more showtimes today. Second time I've seen that. Again, probably not related to the software version on my car. If I notice anything else (good or bad) I'll report back here to let you know. But for those folks with problems that have been waiting for a decent release of code to jump on 2.8 is looking pretty to good to me so far...
  16. I had my 2011 Edge updated to SYNC version 2.8 last Friday and I can happily report that this issue has been fixed with that release of software. So progress is being made. I was able to perform any number of voice commands with the audio system set to off and the system made no attempts to turn it on automatically.
  17. That same knob has a spot right in the middle that indicates "Off" which is what I use to turn off the radio. Pressing it momentarily causes the music to cease playing and the red screen corner says "Audio Off" which is what I would expect. Even the glass tubed 50 pound Ford radio in my 1951 F-1 pickup has a button that indicates Off and works pretty much the same way. If Ford is going to redesign the concept of turning off a radio I think there should be some kind of an educational supplement supplied in the owner's manual as I think the vast majority of consumers expect a radio to stay off when you press the Off button. I know I'm being a bit of a smart alec, but seeing this as a feature instead of the bug that it is is kidding ourselves. In the grand scheme of things it's a minor one with several workarounds, but it really should be fixed.
  18. I noticed a new twist with this issue in my car over the weekend. Once again I had the radio turned off as I was having a conversation with the passengers instead. My current phone will not do the SYNC texting functionality, but I still get the audible noise through the system when I received a new text message. After playing my "text notification" noise, that also turned my audio system back on (to static actually this time as I had had the radio off for a long time and was now out of range of the previous station). This *has* to be a bug, why in the world would people want their radio turning itself back on like this? I mentioned this issue to one of the SYNC chat techs a week or so ago when I was asking about something else. They told me this was normal behavior of the system.
  19. I have noticed this same behavior as well, I have the same setup in my Limited. My best guess is that this is a bug related to SYNC sometimes "rediscovering" your USB flash drive, and then switching to it upon vehicle restart. I found a work-around for this so I could leave the flash drive plugged in without it switching to that source automatically. While you are playing from your USB device, click the button on the screen that says "Options". One of those settings will say "Autoplay from device" or something along those lines. It defaults to Yes. Change it to No or Off. That fixed it for me. Also realize, every time you have your SYNC software updated by the dealer this will be one of the settings you will want to remember to change back. Good luck!
  20. I would concur with this statement. While 2.4 was not a perfect world, I think I'm actually seeing more problems under 2.7 than I was before. The worst thing is we took a short day trip over the weekend and were using the navigation the whole way. About 5 hours into the trip all of a sudden the navigation screen said "Navigation fault, please see dealer for service" or something along that line. I had seen that message when the system boots up when you start the car, but never just going down the road. It also disabled all the Travellink functionality, the buttons were all just dimmed so you couldn't press any of them. Related voice commands were just ignored. The next morning everything was fine, and in fact my navigation declared "You have arrived at your destination" which was technically true, just a day or so late in telling me.
  21. I can't speak for the rest of your woes, but you don't have to go through the menu system to turn off your rain sensing wipers. Just rotate the wiper control to "Off" when you are going into the car wash. The menu control is just to switch the wiper system from "rain sensing" to "regular delay" operation but is not required to turn them off.
  22. You are probably right in your assessment as to why it gets turned on. But even if the audio system needs to be turned on to perform a voice command it could also be systematically turned back off when the command is completed. I can't see any reason for the original state of the audio to be opposite when the voice event is finished. I think this is a bug any way you slice it. Admittedly, with some of the other bugs some are experiencing this is probably not a high priortity issue, but at least from the programmers perspective it is really easy to reproduce when they do decide to fix it.
  23. The navigation system was running and giving directions the whole trip. That didn't seem to turn the radio on. I could also make a hands-free call on my phone and there was no radio turned on afterwards. So those would seem to be two instances where the car could "talk" to me without also turning the radio on. But pressing the talk button and issuing a navigation, climate, or Travellink command would definetly turn the radio on when that command was finished.
  24. So I'm not sure if this is indeed a bug or not, but it's really easy to reproduce from what I found out last night in the driveway. Basically, turn off the audio system, press the voice button, do ANY voice related command successfully, and when that command is completed the radio will have turned itself back on in the process. That doesn't seem correct to me as I'm not sure why the radio state would change just because I issued a navigation or Travellink command, but there you go.
  25. Respectfully submitted, but there is another active thread elsewhere on this forum with a link to an article where Ford has publicly done everything you are asking. The only thing not put forth in that article is an exact date that all problems will be fixed because when you are working on a pile of issues you really can't know that, and putting out a date in such cases is a really bad p.r. move. I haven't been in this party as long as some of you guys, and my problems with MFT are admittedly less severe, but 3 major software releases in half a year would seem to indicate quite a bit of effort is going toward fixing these problems.
