  1. Make a set up tie down strap loops that you can flip out from under the hood when needed. Take a piece of strap (the kind from a ratcheting strap), aboout 8-12" and double it over. Heat up a nail while holding it with a pliers. Now melt a hole near the cut end of the strap with the hot nail. The nail will melt the nylon with out fraying and weakening the strap. Open your hood and remove a fender bolt up near the back of the hood. Insert bolt through strap and reinstall the bolt under hood.
  2. +1 on Okie's suggestion to take advantage of the opportunity to upgrade to Sync 3. I just did a Sync 3 upgrade myself on my 2011 Edge Ltd, if fact I used Okie's APIM codes he posted to program my unit. I got lucky and managed to snag a NAV APIM and screen from a 2018 Ford Flex I found at a junkyard for $100 shipped. In my research I have seen others post about paying the same or a little more for their units, you just have to be persistent in your search and call the yards to make sure they have what you are looking for. I did have to return a couple items from another online site that listed their item as a 8" control panel. What I received was the HVAC control panel with the 8" frame for the screen. I was able to ship these back for a refund, but lesson learned, call. I found my unit on car-part.com. You have to weed through all of the sync 2 units as that is mostly what you will find. Register for the ford etis website(free registration, pretend you're a dealer) and run any VIN's you find to see if the vehicle has Sync 3 or navigation. You are looking for the recessed version of the screen, so search for Edge 2016+, Explorer 2016+, F-250/350 2017+, Flex 2016+ or Taurus 2016+. Good Luck!
  3. Ok, the thread title had me thinking sync was being dropped entirely. So no more expensive navigation upgrades will be sold for those with a nav unit?
  4. Does this mean new Ford vehicles will have something different than Sync 3? I just upgraded to Sync 3. Hopefully the new system will use the same connectors so I can upgrade again in a couple years when the new units start showing up in junkyards.
  5. Last night I used Forscan for the first time and was able to program my APIM with Okie's settings. My HVAC settings seem to match my vehicle now, no backseat settings and only two heat levels on the heated seats. So far so good. Okie, what size wheels do you have? I have 18" wheels on my 2011 Edge Ltd.. That is the only thing I can think of that I might need to tweak yet if your values are set for 20". I still have to look into why my backup camera is grainy. The only thing I can think of is a connector may have loosened up when I did the swap. I have to take the console/dash apart again anyway to do the USB hub swap, so I will check it then. I'm considering running a USB cable up through the dash to my Iottie phone holder. I'm not sure if I should run it out the front of the dash where the console side trim meets the dash or go all the way to the front of the dash and come out by the windshield.
  6. Okie, Thanks for posting your APIM settings. I have also have a 2011 Edge Ltd with the same features you have listed. Your settings should prove useful as I do my upgrade. I just swapped my sync 2 unit last night for a sync 3 unit that came out of a 2018 Flex. I haven't made any changes to the APIM yet, and surprisingly most everything seems to work as is. I do have some extra HVAC settings for the backseat that don't apply to my vehicle. I noticed the back up camera seems grainy and I'm not sure why. Perhaps I need to make sure the connection didn't loosen up when I messed with the plugs swapping units. Good job on the brackets. Fortunately I was able to reuse my sync2 brackets on the new screen which was the same recessed version as my Edge.
  7. I had the door ajar issue as well with my 2011 Edge. They told me they replaced the latch. I had to take it back as when they put it together the lock was jamming. Working now. Seeing this post, it seems to be a common problem, perhaps they need a recall to fix the issues.
  8. It turns out it was the switch on my Edge causing me problems.......2,000 miles over the factory warranty, just under two years old. I had the driver door latch replaced too, it kept telling me my door was ajar.
  9. I'm having the exact same issue with my 2011 Ford Edge. Right signal operates normally, but left only flashes 3 times no matter what and stops. I swapped out the bulbs thinking perhaps one of them was going bad, but that did nothing. Switch or relay perhaps? Post if you figure it out or get it fixed. Thanks.
  10. I recently purchased a 2011 ford edge and fell in love with the BAMR option. However I was disappointed that Ford did not offer a roof rack option in conjunction with this roof configuration. I occasionally need to carry a canoe on my roof, so I set out in search of aftermarket options. I considered the Yackima Q-Tower clip on option, but I didn't like the idea of "temporary" option that might scratch the paint. Also, it seemed like it would take a lot of effort to install and remove each time. I searched on the web and found a retailer called Rack Attack that could install a Yakima track system, and this seemed like a decent solution. However there were no Rack Attack installers in my area and the idea of drilling and sealing multiple holes in my new vehicle seemed a bit drastic. Also the location of the tracks close to the BAMR had me worried it could stress or warp the mechaninism of the BAMR. Then I stumbled upon a post over at the Ford Flex forum, where a user named tadpole installed a Yakima Landing pad #11 with Yakima towers to carry his kayak. The Ford Flex has a similar BAMR option and similar rain gutters, so I thought why couldn't this be done on an Edge also? That being said, I'm glad I went with this option. The landing pads are solidly mounted. Combined with front and rear tie down points, I am confident that I wil have no problems hauling my canoe where I need to on top of my 2011 Ford Edge. I'm using the factory holes that the trim retaining clips are mounted to. I'm assuming that these are the same anchor points that the factory racks use on an edge without the Vista roof. A little caulk or grease on the threads should keep it waterproof. I just requires drilling two 1/4" holes in each trim strip to line up......measure twice, or three times, drill once. The Yakima Landing Pads #11's straddle the rain gutter and transfer the weight across both sides, for the Flex Yakima lists a capacity of 165lbs, the Edge is not listed. I plan on leaving the landing pads attached to the roof and just popping the rack on and off as needed, a easy two minute job.
