Newbie (1/14)

  1. Well I finally installed a K & N filter in my 2010 Sport. And even though I have always used and supported the use of K & N filters, I expected only about .5 MPG increase. My increase is actually a whopping 1.9 MPG- same exact driver (me) and driving style as before the K & N. So, I am up to 21.9 MPG around town. I also did one other mod- the same one that Mike M. did. I removed the plastic sound chamber from the intake and manufactured two plugs to go into the vacant large holes. I first unbolted the entire intake tube, then proceeded to cut the clamps that hold the sound chamber on. The sound chamber pulled right out and there were 2 large, different size holes in the intake. I used some left over black rubber type sheeting I obtained from work- 1/2 inch thick and about 60 durometer I am guessing and cut 2 round pieces to match the openings in the intake. Then I bought 2 SST large round hose clamps at Lowe's, dropped the plugs in place and clamped them on with the SST clamps. The result is that the plugs are flush with the outside and since they are black, look great- and it looks factory. I did not notice any increase in intake sound. The total cost was just the clamps which were about $2.50 each, since the material was a freebie. i am not sure if this helped the MPG although it simplifies the intake and to me looks better without that large sound chamber on.
  2. I have been using K & N filters, installing Cold Air Intakes, CAT back exhausts for over 30 years now. We each have our own opinions and preferences. My favorite is CAT back exhaust and K & N filter (not intake, just filter). This combo seems to yield best fuel mileage and performance gain. I have not had as good results with Cold Air Intakes- on their own or with CAT back exhausts. When I replace the factory filter, I always use K & N. It provides better breath-ability in my opinion. In some cars it yields 1 MPG increase, others none. I have one installed in my 2010 Edge Sport- and I also removed the silencer on top of the intake tube and replaced it with round rubber pucks, which I machined. The combo yielded no difference in performance, sound or MPG. I intend to install CAT back exhaust in about 3-6 months. I will report back the results of the K & N filter and CAT back.
  3. I had a similar situation with a used Toyota Tacoma with only 20K miles a couple of years ago. The rotors were warped for some reason- who knows. I replaced the rotors with new ones and also the pads. Issue was completely gone after.
  4. We have a 2010 Edge with factory 22 inch wheels. While they look really good and don't really stick out they are HEAVY. The best recommendation I can give is look for light weight wheels, if you can find them. The extra added weight of the big wheels really slows down acceleration. As good as they look, if I had to do it over again I probably would not opt for the big wheels.
  5. I read that and listened to the video- it sounded awesome. Any benefits other than sound- was it worth it- any performance gains? Any issues with check engine lights, etc.?
  6. I was wondering if anyone has installed either a CAT back exhaust- Borla or Magnaflow and/or the K & N intake on their Edge? If you have how is the sound over stock? And is there a performance gain? Any other issues- CEL's or anything else? I have had great luck with installing CAT or AXLE back systems on other vehicles I have owned in the past- Jeep Wranglers, Mazda Miata, Subaru WRX and a couple of others. Much improved performance and sound- I have never been let down after purchase. I have actually had better results with just a CAT back and a K & N filter as opposed to an intake. The Edge exhaust looks restrictive. A CAT back looks like it would really open it up. Stock is extremely quiet- the Edge could use a deeper sound or growl- similar to Infinity EX/FX would be ideal. I find our 2010 Edge Sport ideal, except it could use a little boost in HP and exhaust tone.
  7. I am in the process of researching a receiver hitch for my 2010 Sport. So far there is Drawtite, Hidden Hitch and Curt receivers available. Drawtite is the only one that makes one to clear the rear panel so not cutting is involved. It is a 2 inch though and I really wanted a 1 1/4- I am concerned that it may be too heavy and too low to the ground. Anyone else installed a hitch on a 2010 Sport- did you go with 2 inch Drawtite or 1 1/4 from Curt or Hidden Hitch and did you cut the rear panel? If so how did it come out- does it look OK?
  8. I use the exact same Yakima system on our 2010 Edge Sport, although without Vista Roof. We haul bikes and kayaks no problem at all. The rack installs and removes in minutes and looks good as well. The only ting is the Q clips do scratch the paint off inside the door jamb. I am experimenting with different tapes and such to eliminate the scratching. The Q clips originally had pretty sharp edges which I since rounded.
  9. 2007 Edge AWD we owned for 3 years, averaged 19-20 MPG. 22 on a long trip. Now we have a 2010 Sport FWD with 22 inch wheels. 7500 miles on it and we are averaging a respectable 21- around town and highway driving. Both have been always delivered consistent, decent MPG and otherwise have been flawless.
  10. Does not sound right. We had an 07 AWD Edge for 3 years, averaged 19 MPG, over 22 on a trip. Now we have 2010 Sport, average 21 MPG. Both Edges perform flawless, never an issue.
  11. This does not sound right. We have owned a 2007 Edge for 3 years, now we have a second one a 2010 Sport. Never have either of our Edges done anything close to this. RPM's are usually low. We drove our Edges in hilly country (MA), now in flat country FL. And our gas mileage average is 21 in both of them. The have been flawless.

    2009 Sport

We have a 2010 Edge Sport- looks essentially the same. We turned in our 2007 Edge SEL for the 2010 Sport. Have the same blue color too, except no Vista roof. We absolutely love it, had it for a year now, no issues, perfect SUV. We have a Yakima rack for it and load on bikes and kayacks too.
  13. I was informed by the dealer when I bought my 2010 Ford Edge that all Edges come with factory tranny oil coolers now. Is this true? I have not studied the front to see if there is one. I feel much better if a tranny cooler is present to tow anything- especially in the heat. Our 2007 Edge had the towing package and the tranny cooler was present for sure.
  14. We are on our second Edge- the first one a 2007 AWD limited. Currently we have a 2010 Sport with SYNC. The first Edge was flawless. We looked long and hard at the competition before leasing our second Edge. Nothing came close in our opinion as far as ride, comfort, room, great looks and decent gas mileage for a roomy 6 cylinder SUV. It was an easy decision to lease a second one. So far the Sport has been flawless too- had it since Aug 2010 and have 6K on it. I opted for the Sport model mainly to get the 22 inch wheels. We use our Edge for everything- hauling our dogs around, Kayaks and bikes on top, cargo and people. We are very satisfied with it and plan to buy it out at the end of the three year lease.

New member, just joined. We have owned Ford Edges since 07, the first one a leased 2007 Limited AWD. Traded it for a new lease on a 2010 2WD Sport last August (since we moved to FL and no longer need AWD). The first one was perfect for three years- no issues at all and so far the 2010 is just as perfect.
