  1. Yeah, I had that same reaction. I wish I knew when and what the hell could have possibly fallen straight down w/ the force to do this if that is what happened. Working on the insurance side of this mess now.
  2. So the Ford engineer determined the shattering was from an object striking the glass - and they won't cover it. Attached is a photo of the area specifically they said was the impact point. In the lighting at my house and outside, this area didn't stand out. This shot was taken under the lights at the dealer - look at the middle of the pic and along the edge. What do you guys think? I know if there was any 'impact' it sure wasn't when I was in the car.
  3. Just a quick update. Insurance claim estimate came in - $920 just in case you were curious. Again that is just the rear/fixed glass section. On the positive, Ford just contacted me after I submitted my complaint to their general council this past Tuesday. They are sending a field engineer to the local dealer next week to make the inspection. That's a pretty quick reaction. I'm sure Ford will see that it wasn't from any impact and will fix it due to the safety aspect of this, and like others posted I guess it is logical that they need to see it themselves. So, as frustrating as it was initially if by next week they step up and fix it I'll be happy. I'll let everyone know what the decision is by mid next week - hopefully this doesn't happen to anyone else. I'll have them update to Sync 2.11 while I'm in there.
  4. Of course if I crashed the car it shouldn't be covered. Even if I didn't crash and something fell off of a bridge or tree and hit the roof I wouldn't expect it to be covered under warranty. That isn't what happened here. This exact issue was reported by others w/ the vista roof on the Edge and Flex (from what I have found so far). I'm not saying it is a pervasive problem - but what happened, happened and it has before. I can't see any angle to this where it wouldn't be the responsibility of Ford, but I'll give them the 15 days to respond accordingly. The one positive so far is the out of state dealer I bought this from has offered to split my out of pocket (deductible) costs for this repair. They didn't have to do that legally so that was an unexpected surprise.
  5. Ok - thanks for the feedback. The auto glass insurance rep commented that, besides not having seen this in 14 years, that Ford should absolutely cover this due to the safety issue but also what is clearly some issue from installation or just a defect in the glass. I'll find out what the cost is here in a few days.

    Sirius

I can't remember the site I got it from, but I googled a bit and found the myford touch guide online and it is pretty thorough. Here is a copy/paste from the manual - so you can save 6 favorites on sirius 1, 2 or 3: SIRIUS SATELLITE RADIO (IF ACTIVATED) Press the lower left corner of the touchscreen and then select the SIRIUS tab. You can then: • Press and hold one of the memory preset areas (on the right side of the screen). You will hear a brief mute and the sound will return when the station is saved.
  7. Actually the pic might not do it justice, the part visible from the inside held together yes but if you look from the outside a good 2 inches along the back most edge came apart and flew off the back of the car, as well as in each of the corners a few square inches flew off. Not exactly like what I've seen from windshields - it definitely didn't hold together like you would think the roof over your head should. And NOTHING actually hit it - there was zero impact.
  8. No injuries - just a minor cut from removing some of the glass. It could have been bad, especially if I had the roof open. Insurance doesn't treat it like a windshield - it falls under your comprehensive coverage with your deductible. I'll find out in a few days what the adjuster comes up with in terms of cost. Will be fighting this with Ford though, and insurance company indicated they'll help with getting reimbursed from Ford. I understand glass can break - it's glass - but it seems ridiculous that your roof can explode. Here are some posts from other occurences: http://www.arfc.org/complaints/2008/ford/edge/10237272.aspx
  9. While driving 30 mph, no bumps, no impact from anything - just shattered. This was the rear piece of glass, not the front which moves when you open the roof up. Saw in some posts and on other forums this has happened before to people. Not sure if it has happened recently and/or what people's experience was with Ford on having it covered under warranty. In my case, the dealership said it would NOT be since Ford treats it like a windshield shattering. Couldn't believe that, but called Ford customer service and they submitted my request to their General Council and I'm to receive a written response in 15 days. I guess I can't blame the dealership, they are just following what Ford has decided. Has anyone else had recent (or any) experience like this?
  10. Thanks for the info - and that is a very good forum. Interestingly, so far my Edge doesn't set off the 9500ix and I just had it running along w/ the active cruise for about 15 minutes straight this morning. Assuming this continues to work ok, I'm going to go ahead and hard wire the RD into the fuse panel so that it powers off automatically and the cord is out of the way.
  11. Yeah if you stick with 10 to possibly 15 over on an interstate you will almost never get nailed, and in that case a RD isn't worth it. I have a tendency to push it higher than that when I feel it is safe to do so, and had a run for a while where I was getting too many tickets. The choice was to slow down or get a good RD - I know what the proper answer is but unfortunately I also know my driving habits.. So my issue is more when the speed limit is say 55 on an interstate and I'm going 75 - and in those cases the RD has helped. That said, the last two times I was pulled over I was just being an idiot and had actually passed an unmarked cop each time (they don't like that very much). No RD will prevent that ticket. My theory is that the RD gets me out of probably a few interstate travelling tickets a year, but when you drive like an idiot you deserve and most likely will get one.
  12. ab - i read the escort manual and searched their forum - i can't find here you do this? I have the 9500ix as well. Everything I read talks about locking out fixed signal locations (i.e. known false alarm spots, etc.). Any help would be appreciated!
  13. No complaints from me at least not yet. That explains some of the alerts I get on my detector while driving around (before I had the Edge). I can't believe I didn't think of that before - I guess I thought cars were using laser not radar for adaptive cruise. Anyways, I have that top-end Escort 9500 like another poster mentioned so I'm going to read up on how I can hopefully have it 'learn' to ignore the frequency of at least my vehicle's sensors. I really want to be able to use both - this radar detector has saved me from multiple tickets.
  14. Of all the awesome tech features on the 11 Edge Limited, I have to say the adaptive cruise control even exceeded my expectations the most. Since I drive fairly fast it was always frustrating to have to cancel or hit the break every time someone was driving slow in the left lane using traditional cruise control - it almost became pointless to have it. No with this feature, all the 'stress' is gone. I still have trouble understanding why people drive slow in the left lane but that's a different story. For anyone getting an Edge of these, if you can stretch the budget a bit I can't recommend this feature enough. Especially if you are already getting the Limited and were planning on adding package - I strongly suggest bumping up to the 302A. Suffice it to say all future vehicles I drive will have this.
  15. wow - i just bought one and have just about the most complete opposite thoughts you have. about the only thing i would tweak is the sunroof open/close button should have an auto option so you don't have to hold it. i find the 11 edge to be a fantastic vehicle. it isn't cheap when you deck it out completely loaded, but it is sweet.
  16. Picked up 11 Edge Limited FWD last night. Had 302A spec package, plus trailer/tow, back-lit door sills, 20" chrome wheels. MSRP was $41,580. Got it for about $36,300 plus tax/tags.
  17. Congrats - I just picked up my 11 Limited 302A last night. You'll love it.
  18. Ah - that makes sense. This is a Limited FWD, 302A rapid spec, 20" wheels, trailer/tow and illuminated door sill. MSRP 41,580, Invoice according to dealer around 39,500. Edmunds shows 38,720. So w/ what you are talking about I'm just off a couple hundred. Dealer offer, with the incentives, is 36,600. I can do a bit better at some other dealers, but they don't have the exact color I'm looking for.
  19. Yep - will definitely call and of course make sure to read all the fine print. Buying in the Carolina's - so when you read the 'local offers' there is no mention of a prepayment penalty. No I'm just trying to verify the actual dealer invoice cost, the dealer is saying one thing and Edmunds and KBB all have different numbers. Thanks for the quick responses.
  20. I know this would be spelled out in the terms of the financing, but does anyone know off the top of your head if Ford has any prepayment penalty if they finance the loan and include the current $1,000 incentive? I want to pay cash, but the dealer (over the phone and out of the area) is saying I should just finance it thru Ford to get the $1k discount then pay it off the first month. I can't believe Ford doesn't include some type of pre-payment figure in their financing.
  21. That's a very valid point. Given how much Ford has committed to this, rolling it into all their new models, they clearly need to step up and put out something acknowledging the issues and confirming their corporate commitment to fixing it. In other words this isn't an Edge issue, it is across their entire product line. They clearly made a lot of mistakes, and hopefully they learn from that but the first step in that is to admit it. It's funny at the local dealership the other day I mentioned how many issues there are with MFT, and the salespeople of course acted like I was making it up. The eventually admitted that 'one or two of the very first people' that bought one had to bring it in for updates. Because of forums like this, we know what really is going on and obviously Ford knows, so it does sound like they need to step up. I think the reason why I'm 99% sure I'm going to pull the trigger, is that it seems like a general consensus everyone likes or even loves the car itself. The fact that the MFT issues are software and not the underlying technology or hardware, means it is fixable and should continue to get better with each release. That doesn't mean I want to take it in 4x in the first 3 months, but I'm willing to take it in one or two times the first year to get some updates. I'm hoping if I buy now I'm going to miss most of the growing pains that you all went through since the fall. I'm saying this under the assumption that the system will work w/ my iPhone and be more stable than what your experience has been. Also, I'm not trying to make light of the issues but I'd rather have problems with some of the technology features than say a major safety related issue or an engine problem that will leave me on the side of the road. I do wish I could do my own updates though, I'd rather do it myself than a dealer tech but that's just me, or even better the updates should get pushed out automatically like phones have worked for 5+ years.
  22. Good feedback so far.And yeah I never expect OEM nav system maps to be all that great - they are what they are (I have had 3 or 4 by now all from different automakers - I'd have to say Acura's was the best too bad that company just ruined itself with its styling). If I need the absolutely best map I just whip up Google map on the phone.
  23. So... I was about to pull the trigger on an 11 Edge Limited with the 302A package. I can get one at $2,500 below invoice with the zag/usaa pricing so no argument on the price. I then found this forum, which is great, however I became paranoid about the MyFord Touch issues ( I have probably read TOO much). I noticed most of the real bad issues go back 6+ months ago, and I know the most recent patch seems to have made it more stable, but there is still a lot of emotion over MFT. I'd be pissed if I had to go to the dealer 4+ times as well - and even if it ended up fixed I'd have that bitter taste in my mouth. In this case, it's hard just joining a forum and filtering out how much is lingering resentment vs. CURRENT issues if you buy one now. I'm an IT guy, so I am probably a little more I'll say patient regarding of the importance of software updates, bug fixes, etc. and I'm also willing to deal with a few minor hiccups here or there as long as I know it will be resolved. One of my concerns was the delay or touch/feedback issues people were reporting when using the touchscreen. So I went to the dealer today and wanted to test it out more thoroughly. I was able to sync my iPhone 4 and stream Pandora (important) in about 30 seconds. I keyed in addresses in the NAV system and found it to have a similar response I have had on any other auto's NAV system, and it was actually far quicker than the p.o.s. one in a Passat one we had a year or two ago. The touchscreen at first was different than say an iPad, but if you use deliberate pushes on the screen that seemed ok too. I Played around with the voice commands, etc. and everything worked fine. I understand that this wasn't a thorough test, and obviously something can always break, but what else do I really need to check out before pulling the trigger? I obviously can't test drive one for two weeks. Having read this forum at length for the past 2 days, I have no reservation about the other aspects of the Edge, you can tell people love it for the most part.
