  1. Agree with the jittery ride but the Edge having "pronounced road noise" is a ridiculous claim. I've driven the Highlander, Murano and CX-9 and they all have much more road noise then my 11 SEL. Maybe they tested it on a gravel road!!!!!

jittery ride? Didn't notice this! I love my 2011 Sport. If I had the money, I would buy a other one to commute. :-)

  2. Concerning winter handling of the factory Sport wheel/tire combination (I believe Pirelli Scorpions?) - If you need true snow driving capability, plan on purchasing a wheel/tire combination more appropriate for snow usage. Generally speaking, wIde, low profile tires do not drive well in snow.

I did a driver training with the 22" Scorpions. The handling on wet roads is horrible. I learned a lot about my Edge during the training. I prefer 18" winter tires on snow.

  3. Hi folks,

I am looking for a used 18" OEM for the 2010 Ford Edge. I need one with the part number(s) 8T431007EA and/or 8T431007FA (18x7.5J ET44). It can be scratched or slightly damaged.

background information: Last year I ordered 18" wheels for my 2011 Ford Edge Sport AWD in the U.S. (I am living in Germany). Well, the U.S. Ford customer centre told me, that I got 18" wheels with the part number(s) above which are designed for the 2010 Ford Edge. They don't recommend to use them with the 2011 Ford Edge Sport. :-( In Germany you need to get a official approval to use those wheels on public roads. The German TUEV wants to check the max. load of the rims. I didn't get any information about this from Ford US. I need one additional 18" rim to hand it over to the German TUEV. They will do some tests to measure the max. load of the rim. Of course it will be destroyed.

    Manny thx for any offer

  4. I own a Sport AWD since Nov 2011. I can't confirm your problems.

    1. Maps - the navigation works in Europe (it locates you at the right position) but I do not have maps for Germany

    2. Moon roof - works perfect

    3. Accelerating - I love the sound of the V6

    Best regards.

  5. Hello,

I would like to share my experiences of the 1st service with the community. Specially for the guys in Germany it could be interesting. I selected a small independent repair shop which already did the rust-proofing on my 2011 Ford Edge Sport. They did all recommended checks:

Replace cabin air filter, if equipped

    Perform multi-point inspection

    Inspect and lubricate all non-sealed steering linkage,ball joints,suspension joints,half and drive-shafts and u-joints

Inspect brake pads/shoes/rotors/drums, brake lines and hoses, and parking brake system

Inspect complete exhaust system and heat shields

    Inspect cooling system and hoses

Inspect cabin air filter, if equipped

Change engine oil and replace oil filter when indicated on vehicle message center or every 12 months, whichever occurs first

Rotate and inspect tires; check wheel end play and turning noise

They changed (I bought the parts in the US):

    oil

    oil filter

    engine air filter

    Costs:

    oil 57 EUR (75 USD)

oil filter 3.8 EUR (5 USD)

engine air filter 10 EUR (13 USD)

    service 100 EUR (130USD)

    Total: 171 EUR (224USD)

That's a good price compared to a European car and recommend services. I love my Edge more and more, although the gas price in Germany is real nasty. Currently we pay approx. 1.65 EUR per liter (8.18USD per gallon). That means we paid approx. 2400 EUR (3150 USD) for the last 8.000 miles. Sounds much at the first look, but is ok if you drive the Edge. :-)

    Best regards

    Rene

  6. Hi folks,

today I did a driver safety training at German ADAC (similar to AAA). We practice the whole day and I experienced bad cornering with my Edge on slippery ground (22" standard wheels). I was only able to pass the section with 15mph without drifting over the front wheels (understeer). I was shocked. I highly recommend to use winter tires and not to drive with the 22" standard wheels in winter times. But I was also surprised that I never lost control at the skid pad section (the pad pulls the rear wheels away to "kick your back" to the left or right while driving 25mph).

It was a beautiful day with our Edge

  7. I stopped the car again, locked it and unlocked it and started the engine. I did a master reset using the MFT menu. After the master reset I plugged in the usb drive and now the screen shows "Installing file... (3 of 15)" and the warning message came up. I keep my fingers crossed ...

Finally the version was successfully installed. Puuuhhh.....seems to be much better then version 2.11.

  8. I downloaded the upgrade, stop the engine, plugged in the usb drive and got the error "Invalid or Unsigned File". I stopped the engine again, locked the car, unlocked it, plugged in the usb drive, started the engine and now it looks like the system is doing nothing. On the screen only the message "Installing file ... (1 of 15)" is displayed since 15min. The usb drive doesn't indicate any read activities- It sucks!

  9. not being negative about this, but can someone help me understand why you would want an aftermarket filter?

as the original poster has now learned the hard way, these engines are already pushing the envelope of performance on emissions legal programming. any change in A/F ratio is going to negatively impact the system as a whole.

Not to mention any dealer CAN deny working on your vehicle, and depending on if you have an attitude can submit a request to have your powertrain warranty voided based on system modifications.

just sayin....if your edge or edge sport doesn't have enough power for you that you have to risk ruining the engine, maybe you should have considered an SHO taurus, fusion sport, focus ST (when they come out) or even a mustang.

i know i'm gonna piss alot of people off with this, but i'm just saying this as somebody that works for a dealership and sees what you guys don't, which is the guy who put the aftermarket filter on and now has a check engine light and a throttle body whose plates look like they were put in a sandblaster. or even worse a 2011 edge sport with a rod through the side of the block with only 42k on it. upon further inspection, we found modified fuel tables via superchips, line pressures in the tranny that were FAR beyond the design strength, 5 injectors with blown pintles which were leaking fuel into the cylinders and causing a hydrolocking effect which is where the rod through the side of the engine came from.

don't think it can happen? PM me and i'll give you the contact info for the 2 unlucky guys that got to meet the engineers that came down personally to see how in the world an engine like the 3.5 and 3.7 could throw a rod or destroy a throttle body.

Both of these guys told me to pass their story on to help others out, and as i said in my introduction thats why i joined, to learn and help when i can.

nothing to add. For me the Edge is a family car with enough power to safely pass trucks on the highway. If you need a racing machine look for a other car.
