  1. I get in the vehicle, start it up, release the park brake, belt minder sounds so I put on my seat belt, put it in to drive and go. Then I hear a chime directly follwed by a second chime, then it's quiet and the the dual chime sequence happens again three to four times again. There are no instrument cluster lights lit and I can't figure out what the chiming is for. It ceased about three miles down the road but it is odd. Anyone here familiar with the chimes on the Edge? I have a 2010 model FWD.

  2. Well the update is, the other lady's insurance is taking care of the repair and rental while the my ride is being repaired. So that is good. Right now we are hoping the can simply repair and refinish the affected area without painting and such but, once I take it in and they get busy, I guess we'll see how that works out. They have mailed out my check and now I am getting ready to schedule the work. Keeping my fingers crossed!

  3. I am also glad I saw her. She was pretty shaken up since she truly almost drove right through the salon. Since the damage isn't too bad (scratched paint along the bend of the front bumper and a bowed fender panel, minor scratch to the headlight and a small scratch to the lower bumper) I am hoping they can form the fender back without having to replace it and repaint and refinish that side into my driver door. 2010 model in the Texas heat could show differences in fade in no time. I was just impressed with my composure considering my added post of what things people to to irritate you on the other thread. LOL I have done very well so far. Think I need a new salon. People in that area have crashed into the donut shop and the blockbuster within the last 6 months. Yikes. Going to try a shop across town maybe??? LOL

  4. Just need to vent. Yesterday I had the day off. Thought I would pamper myself to a trip to the nail salon. Parked my Edge in a space in front of the salon where I could see it through the glass walls. (Spaces are perpendicular to the building. Not slanted or anything weird.) When my nail tech jumped back and screamed, I of course turned around to see what was goign on behind us. A lady driving a Toyota Camry had puilled in tot he parking space next to my car. But when she went to hit her brake to stop, she hit the accelerator instead and almost crashed into the salon. She managed to not hit the brick pillar in front of that space by hitting my car Edge instead! Not mad just a tad sick about it. It's thankfully not too bad and can be fixed but I have only had it for two months and otherwise it was in perfect condition besides a few swirl marks!

  5. Many things irritate me:

People who long pause when asked a question. Just answer the question or at least acknowlege the person asking the question that you heard them

People who talk about multiple persons and beat you to death with pronouns to the point that you can't tell who did or said anything.

When you are performing a task and unfortunately either fail at it or experience extreme difficulty in completing it, to hear someone with you the whole time say, "I knew that was going to happen, I could have shown you a better way or I could've told you a quicker method". Really? Jerk

The auto spell check on my phone

People who always have something negative to add to any conversation

When people invade my bubble. I can actually speak to people from arms length. If you are going to enter my bubble to whisper to me, brush your teeth or get a mint please.

Dramatic teenagers. Hell over dramatic individuals of all ages irritate me.

People who can somehow turn every situation into something about themselves.

Having my hair constantly in my face while I am working on a project. When I don't remember to have a hair tie handy!

When a driver changes lanes in front of you and there is barely enough room to do so without causing an accident.

When a train stops and blocks an intersection completely down for some reason non of us will ever know.

When someone calls you and asks what you are doing and you tell them, you are busy with "anything". Before you can even get it out that you need to call them back, they say something like, "Oh well I want to tell you about blah blah blah" or "Oh, ok, Did you hear about ......", or "well I am blah blah blah".

  6. I imagine you may already have your answer but, the Advance Trac traction control system is always on automatically. So if you are referring to the the dash control switch being backlit all the time, then that means you either have a malfunctioned switch or the traction control feature is off. Does it Flash or stay backlit steady?

  7. I was just like the original poster on the whole key pad thing. However, being one of those dsitracted people that have locked my keys in my previous car without this keypad feature, I can tell you this would have saved me several hundred dollars and countless hours of frustration trying to get in my car after locking my keys in it! Not having to keep my keys (I have allot of keys on one ring) in my pocket while at the car wash or while out an about it very helpful. I am learning to really like this feature.

  8. Even with a sunshade in place over the windshield and leaving the windows cracked open, my light-colored leather interior in my 2011 Edge seems to stay hotter than my dark-colored leather interior on my other vehicles, and they have very large windshields as well.

I suppose the temperature is affected by the minimal insulating effect of the flimsy cover of the Vista moon roof, which of course covers a large portion of the roof area.

Has anyone else noticed this, or am I imagining things?

I have the light tan colored leather seats as well on my 2010 model. I normally park facing South in my work parking lot. Since the front windows are not tinted, I was still getting some considerable heat inside the vehicle and yes that leather gets real hot seats an steering wheel. Tried parking facing West yesterday and with my new cover craft shade its a serious difference in the temperature and the leather steering wheel and seats. I am planning on getting the front windows tinted anyways but just facing west with that shade in place reflecting this crazy afternoon heat recently was pretty impressive. I can't speak for the charcoal or black colored interiors. I just refuse to buy them simply due to the fear of retaining even more heat.

  9. I got the Cover Craft UVS100. It's very sturdy, thick and easy to use. There is allot of windshield on the Edge and I was so glad to finally get it. We have been battling more than 60 (almost consecutive) of well over 100 degree heat and now that I have the shade I am so happy! It fills the windshield area nicely. I have the Edge logo added and it ran me $42. Waited about 3 weeks to get it. A long wait in this heat. There is a huge difference in the interior heat when I get in the car now. I can actually touch the steering wheel and don't jump from a burning seat!!! A little sun gets through the cut out for the rear view mirror but not too much. It has a reflective fabric outer surface and felt fabric interior surface. The foam board is thick and provides good insulation. The edges are stiched with quality. It's acordian style, not roll up which I like. Does not sag. I can put it up and take it down with ease sitting right in my seat. I store in on the floor behind me or in the cargo area. All in all, I am pleased and even though it is more expensive than others, I've spent more buying replacements of cheap sunshades.

  10. I test drove the 2011 and LOVED it. The price tag didn't suit and although the technology features of the 2011 was not only eye catching and impressive, I found it to be a little cumbersome in parts. Why I needed three possible areas to do the same control features, didn't make much sense to me. I really liked the steering wheel design on the 2011 too. The 2011 test drive sold me on this vehicle. I had never looked at an Edge before. the ride was smooth and quiet and it handled great. Plenty of power. But like I said, the price tag didn't suit me personally. Later on I got some communication to checkout a 2010 model. Test drove it, brought it back and said sign me up. Saved more than 10K on the deal, still got warranty and I am a satified customer. Really like this product, I like the storage in the console area like you mention. It is handy. I don't have the navigation screen and MFT but I didn't need all that. The only features or options on the 2011 model that I wish I had on my 2010 is the adaptive cruise control and the hotspot capability. I just think that is so awesome. I do like my fog light design better but have to say the new style looks real sharp. The interior space between the two year models didn't change but I will say I do prefer the interior dash and door panels of my 2010 better. I like the grill on the 2011 better as well. The changes will grow on you I bet. Still just an awesome ride.

  11. I use K&N filters. IMO the benfits are improved horsepower, better air flow and the fact that I don't have to buy another filter for time I own the vehicle. Just maintain it. I have no preconceived notion that I will have improved MPG, but it can only help add to the possibilities. Not sure if the 2010 works for the 2011 but a good parts person should be able to help with that answer for you.

  12. The heat is killing any chances of me polishing my edge right now as well. I can't find shade! Even when I can it's just stupid hot. So it got a hand wash and carnuba wax last weekend. For now this will have to do. I notice light swirls from poor washing and drying but also the water spots on the hood, either from the previous owner not drying the car after a wash or from the windshield washer sprayers in the hood. Either way I figure, I will try to do a full detail on in within the next month or so. Just want to get the finish in good condition and try to keep it that way. I am just concerned that fall here won't be that much better really on the temp side. So it may be DEEP fall or early winter here before I can do what I really want. I have no way to store in our garage so it stays in teh elements and I need a good sealant. Just have to be sure to smooth out the finish before I apply any sealant I would think.

  13. Awesome! LOL I love me some canadians!!!! North America is fine for me! :D Quite frankly knowing that they are built in Canada is reassuring even more to me simply due to the manufacturers testing requirements being much more extensive intially before production in our lovely Northern country! I stand corrected with ease! Thanks for the correction tip.

  14. Terminal replacement or appropriate battery replacement should never sway you on a used car deal. I'd say take another look at it if it is available. I bought used and fully intend to handle my maintenance issues or needs myself. You might reconsider that deal.

  15. I agree on the more informed mechanic and getting a proper diagnosis. What type of terrain are you driving in and what is your percentage of stop and go vs. highway miles daily? Richy is right on checking the filters and the use of synthetic oils. I use a K&N air filter and drive a daily average of about 50 miles per day except for now I am running 100 miles per day this week. 70% highway and 30% stop n go on my route depending on the traffic back up and I just pulled 23.5 MPG on my fill up today. Planning an 800 mile round trip drive in a couple of week and plan to post the fuel economy for primarily highway driving on my 2010 model FWD Edge. Sounds like something is causing the system to burn more fuelt han normal and proper diagnosis is the only way to ensure you find a solution.

  16. Ask them to show you the invoice. Period. No guess work needed. Confirm the invoice for hte VIN to the VIN on the unit you are looking at buying. Walk into the location where they have one of the Edge models you like. Once you see the invoice, offer them $100 over. Then stop. Wait for their next offer. These dealers are all going to come back with your prices are off, where did you get your figures, I can't sell to you below invoice. I had one dealer try to tell me they had heftier rebates the weekend before abd they will keep lowering the rebates until all 2011 models are gone. They are not ordering 2012's until they sell all the 11's. But in the same breathe, that dealer will match any price I get for a comparible product from another dealer. Really. 1200 over invoice is not doing you any favors. Dont mention trades, dont mention rebates until you get a firm price settled on. Don't let them talk you into add-ons or inflated financing. Get quotes on that too and be prepared to walk out and find another deal. If they are only offering 1200 over invoice tell them you'd be willing to buy it for $200 over invoice right now. If not you have an apointment with antoher dealer and you need to be on your way. Be polite and thank them for their time when you get up to leave. If they let you walk out the door, then they apparently don't need the business that bad. They are trained not to let you walk out the door.

If you get your price settled on then start working out the rebates. Bottom line is they have to make money and trust me they will. They will get their hold back and other incentives, but you're the one buying it, so get it for a price that suits you or find it some place else.

  17. Thanks guys. It really is in good shape and I just want to keep it that way. I will start checking out videos and may try to do this more towards the fall. Dealing with 100+ heat and no shade is not my idea of a good idea for me or the Edge at this point. Maybe by then I can get an ROP and do it right. I just don't think the previous owners did mroe than the normal. heck I don't even think they registered the vehicle ro the sync system for this Edge. But that is ok by me. Thanks again and I will post again if I have more questions.

  18. I wanted to have a vehicle with more interior spacing/cargo ability. I have three hunting dogs that while in town I want to be able to take on a cruise to the local park, but need something to haul their trailer as well when I need to. Couldn't quite pull that off in my Camry. I wanted to get the most out of my interior space for haulign things and people. I wanted room. I test drove several, read and researched competing products. Once I planted myself in the Ford Edge for a test drive I was struck by the difference in the ride, the comfort, the quiet cabin, modern features, the power of the engine but also quiet operation of the engine, I liked the exterior and interior styling. Didn't jump for joy over the new model sticker price. So I stopped looking when I read so many complaints about the ful economy on top of pricing. Drove and escape. I had been spoiled and it simply felt like I was driving a small truck. Drove the Sorento, but again I had already been spoiled and their latest version had much imrpoved styling but the feel and ride just didn't compare. The Morano, Rogue, Rav 4, CRV, Highlander, 4 Runner, Equinox and so on just didn't either fit my needs, my pocket book or my plan. I kept thinking about the Edge. Found a good deal on a 2010 model Limited. Checked out a few different used models but when I drove up on my cinnamon color sweet heart, it took no time to draw up the papers. My Husband was just as excited because he liked the feel and design as well, not to mention he's depended on Ford his whole life and they have yet to let him down. Although I had a Camry and didn't care one single bit where it was built when I bought it or where the profits went to, I did pay much closer attention to that detail this time around. My first ride was a Ford and I have gone through plenty of makers during the years but now I am the proud owner of this Ford Edge. I get allot of versatility to make up for the 2-4 MPG difference in fuel economy I was getting before. I didn't go with the 2011 so I am missing out on all the awesome bells and wistles of MFT, new styling, hot spot possibilities and adaptive cruise control which has to be just so awesome. But I also don't have the headaches of fresh new automotive software that comes along with the new design. All in all I like the Sync features and I am still learning about them. I like keeping my hands on the wheel and being able to communicate at the same time with clarity to the persons on the other end of the line. Built in America and when it needs fixing past the warranty terms, we can handle it ourselves!!!

There were simply so many more pro's than con's that I feel good about the decision. I saved $11k buying a gently used model with 11K miles of warranty left. So fine by me. I like the air bag protection, the leather seats, my new Husky Liner all weather mats, the paint job, my dual AC that cools great. I did hope to get a model with the BAMR but based on the stupid temps we are getting right now, I am fine without it. There were so many advances in the last ten years in automobiles that one thing I love and you might call me crazy .... is my headliner console lights! LOL I've been in a dim funk for ten years without them. I know others have them but now I have seen the light and I dig it. I have ABS which my Cmary didn't have. Just really pleased and glad I took the leap.
