  1. Oh and the dealers are going to make their money on the front or the back of the deal. They will make it by trade ins, added features to a model that may need a few things you like, mats, tint, etc., using their financing is another way to make points for point on the deal. I say check with another financing source and see what you qualify for on financing before letting them juggle you around with theirs at the dealer. Every contact you have is basically a salesperson at the dealer, the first one who works it, the manager that comes next, the finance guy who works your numbers to see if you want to incude add ons and heck even some of the so called office personnel.... all salesmen.

Get the invoice price, find out what rebates are available start working from that point. Don't let them talk to you about your personal life. Seriously, you are not trying to be friends, you are trying to make a deal. I have no trouble telling them I plan to pay cash or use another finance source. Your husband was right. Get a firm cash price. Stick with it. Make your offer and do not say another word until they come back with their counter. They will try to tell you they can't sell it for that, they are already giving you all the rebates and discounts, Your's getting a screaming deal at whatever below invoice and blah blah blah. Make another offer and maybe only go up $100. then be quiet and wait. IF they can't make soemthing move towards a descent cash price, get your keys and your purse and start heading for the door fully prepared to walk out and do more research. They more htan likely have your contact information. Wait a couple days and see if they intend to make the deal for the price you are willing to pay. It may help to have someone go with you but you do the talking. They can just make sure the salesman does start talking to you about personal issues. Your personal life is none of their business and you can get compliments from people you trust, you don't need theirs while trying to make a car deal.

  2. Just a tip, ask the dealer to see the invoice on a new Edge. They have to show it. Work your deal from there. Heck lots of people may not realize it but if you were to look for a used vehicle, and you ask the dealer to see the invoice for what they have in a used vehicle, they have to show it to you on those too. You can be eligible for multiple rebates and have them tacked on for a new purchase. Work your deal for the amount you want to spend. Don't go into it offering info on trade-ins. Don't discuss financing. Just get the deal on a cash price for the car worked out first. If they keep pressing for that infor or what you want your payment to be, get them back tot he cash price offering and stay there till you get your answer. Be prepared to get up and walk out. There is always another deal right around the corner. If they sense for one second you have your heart set on anything, they will work their magic and the new car bug might not work to your advantage.

  3. Ok so I have read a large portion of the posts here and want to say thanks to all of you have that offered up your knowledge. I have learned so much just reading your input. I do have a question though. I do not have machine buffer, orbital anything. I want to polish my edge after a proper wash and clay treatment to rid it of some swirl marks and some water spots embedded into the hood. Is there a polish that I can do this with that I can do by hand? What products do you recommend? I have no experience with a machine buffer and seriously don't want to screw up the paint. I realize that it could be some extensive work by hand too that might require allot of pressure to get anything close to the same results. Would it just be better to take it to a detailer and let them do it?

  4. Ok quick question on this. I bought a used 2010 limited FWD without the tow package so I am wanting to add a hitch to haul my dog trailer. The tow package from the factory includes more than just the hitch (i.e. larger radiator, upgraded cooling fans, and such). My question is, will just adding a hitch/receiver add too much wear or load? I really don't know that much about the hitches just yet.

  5. Welcome to the forum! I am a newbie also and just purchased a used 2010 model. It's a great vehicle. I just added a K&N filter to mine and the oil and filter was changed just prior to my purchase so I have a little ways to go before the next schedule. Congrats on your new edge!

  6. Welcome to the Edge Nation! I do not have the new 2011 model. Just got a used 2010 w/o the MFT technology but I have been hearing several issues about the system. It's software so it will have a few bugs I imagine. The ride is great though. Search the forum and you may be able to find others who experience the same things and can help you with info on how they are handling the MFT. Congrats on your edge!

  7. I got the rear cargo liner for $60 at a local retailer and they had it in stock. If you check with your local retailers that sell the husky liners or weather tech they may also have it in stock or can order it in. Since the interior is two tone, we had ordered the black to off set all the tan but they misplaced one of the set and couldn't find it, and while they were looking my husband asked if they had the tan in stock and they said they kept plenty of that color so they tried it and he liked it better and that is what we bought. Its stiff material but not too heavy like some rubber type mats. The liner sides/lip provide better liquid containment. The underneath side has those molded pegs like that on a carpet protector for an office area plastic mat you would use under an office chair. The material is thick but lightweight and holds its shape in and out of the vehicle. You can always check autoanything.com too I think they may also sell the husky liners.

  8. Yes please post what was done?

I know this is old but I just got a used 2010 edge and had a squeaking driver seat. Seems if you spray a little silicone lubricant on the washer betweent he seat beat base and the connection to the seat, it gets rid of the squeak PDQ. Worked on mine perfectly, save me from a trip to the dealer.

  9. Thanks!

I have three hunting dogs and currently plan to use the husky all weather mat for the cargo area. I got one of tube type block/dividers and it seems to work just fine thus far but with teh seats up, this is hardly the best room to secure three dogs. (two labs and a pointer. So we chose to lower the second row of seats and make sure hte divider is positioned vertically a little further in and that holds well and give enough room for them to lay down on the all weather mat. i will keep another blanket to protect the carpeted backing of the seat. Just wish i knew the best way to protect the plastic sides and rear area of the door from scratches. Haven't hauled them inside yet, but am getting ready. We got our divider at pet smart. Great for getting right away but you can save $$$$ I found out on autoanything or anythingauto site that was mentioned in this post for less. I like the one we have because I can position the tubes to move to the width of any area in the back. I will say it is a good two person job to get the first positioning doen but after that, one person can handle with ease. Once we installed it, we simply lowered the points of the tubing that come in contact with the ceiling and seat backs and turned it and it comes right out of the vehicle for easy storage.

  10. First tank 21 mpg, second tank, 17.5 mpg. Second tank was sue to some extra idle time and a bit more city stop and go driving. So last night I filled it up again and today I put in a K&N drop in air filter as well and we will see how it goes. Running stock 18" wheels. Not a big "wheel" kind of chic and I know the larger rims will cause less fuel economy so the stocks are fine with me. Neighbor is getting mid 20's on MPG on their 11 model. So far loving this ride. I know I sacrificed a little fuel economy for this ride but I picked up so much more vehicle and technology that I am very happy with my gently used 2010 Edge.

Question though, you guys got any input on the brand or type of fuel you are using?

  11. The only accessory I really wanted was the all weather mats!!! My husband came home with the husky liners and they fit is perfect. The color match up for the tan is great and not distracting and gets the job done. I was torn between the weather techs and the husky liners. Like what I got!! Complete coverage and they stay in place. The material has an embossed diamond plate look to it.

  12. Picked up a limited FWD 2010 model used this week. Loving this ride. I like the comfort, the controls, the materials, the design, the features and so much more. Still waiting to double check my manual mpg but overall, I am very happy to have made this change back to Ford Nation. I have not met an owner personally that expresses any dissatisfaction for the Edge. I drove the 2011 models and love the technology but with any first run that is as extensive as the MFT, there will be a few bugs. Doesn't make this ride a bad auto.

  13. For anyone that has a squeaky seat: Go for a drive with your seatbealt on, when you notice it start to squeak reach down and hold your seatbelt at the latch, you should be able to make the noise stop. If this is your squeak: reach down with your right hand to follow where the seatbelt latch is hooked to the seat and you will feal the nut that holds the latch to the seat. There will be two white teflon washers on either side of the latch at the nut. Spray silicone lube on the washers by folding the back of the seat all the way down for easy access. Work the seatbelt latch assembly back and forth to get the silcone spread around. Your problem is now solved. This sqeak will develope in the passenger seat as well and might have to be redone over time.

Liftbay, thanks for this tip. I just bought a 2010 limited edge used and noticed this squeak and determined it was coming fromt eh driver seat. I have no issue with takign things in for warranty (since I still have warranty available) but for a three minute minute I see no need in taking countless hours to run back and forth to a dealership to take care of this. I will use this method and hope the issue stops. Placstics rubbing together jsut squeak. It's not really a defect as much as a materials issue. Thanks for the help.

  14. 2010 Edge Limited FWD with 25,500 miles. I just bought this unit used and an getting through my first tank of fuel. I have been noticing the MPG fluctuating depending on my driving conditions. This electronic reading is new to me and interesting (my previous car had no electronic mpg report output). I have reset this reading during operation and once I come to a stop. I drive mostly highway miles to and from work. About 12 of those miles are city and 32 are hwy. I have been watching the computer read anywhere from 18mpg (during stop and go or when we punch the engine to see how it performs) to 29.2 mpg (driving at a steady hwy speed of 60-70 mph manually or with cruise set). I am also doing my own manual calculations and will repost the average overall once I have more time/use. I know that when I went shopping for new or used that most units had varying mpg reading on the computer. I have to admit at first it was alarming because I was not very aware of the system. You get into a brand new Edge and the MPG read AVG MPG at 13.1 and it's a very uncomfortable thing to see. Especially when fuel is so high and my previous car was more than double this. But to my surprise, I am seeing a difference in the computer systems readings and so I am anxious to get my manual calculations to match up to the system. Overall I feel if I lose a few mpg's for the ride, comfort, power and space .... well, I may get over it. On the other hand if I get what I have been getting out of my previous car, with all the extras, then I got myself a screamin deal. I have another friend who is also driving a 2010 AWD Edge and she is averaging near 30 MPG. Not allot of help to this post. Just wanted to share info. I am really enjoying this ride!!!
