  1. Somewhere I read the at an Edge with the 2.0 ECO engine is NOT rated to tow anything (with no factory tow options). I just read a test on the new Range Rover Evoque that supposedly uses the Ford 2.0 ECO engine and on that vehicle, it's rated to tow up to 3500 lbs (with trailer braking) or about 1700 lbs without trailer braking. I'm thinking of getting the Edge 2.0 ECO, but have a requirement to tow a trailer that can go up to 2000 lbs occasionally. Any thoughts on this? I would prefer to buy an Edge with the factory tow package and am not hot to install an after market receiver hitch (especially if it involved any bumper cutting.
  2. I don't have an Edge as of yet, but thinking about taking the plunge. Therefore, I can't help you out a bit re possible "cutting". However, I'm a firm believer in going with the 2" receiver as you never know what you may run into down the road re towing. Also, I think you'll get a tighter fit with the 2" verses the 1.25" receiver. The only negative about the 2" is that it's bigger and MAYBE more unslghtly to the eye. Also, more chance of dragging on the road on sudden steep grades (like transitioning from a flat driveway to a steep grade). When this happens, no foul, but a obnoxious grinding noise for a second or two). The first time it happens, it's a guaranteed WTH!
  3. For my 2¢, I would say forget about it with your present rig. Of course, there is boat towing and there's boat towing. If you're not going very far and it's just to dump the boat in for the season, I would think you could squeak by. If on the other hand, you will be towing the boat several times a year. get something else, especially if there are hills involved. I have a Flex ECO pulling a smaller boat (probably around 3000 lbs or more including the trailer) and it pulls the boat fine. However, I definitely think I would be better served IF I had electric trailer brakes. The trailer has inertia brakes which I question. If I have to stop quickly, I need plenty of room. More than once, my heart started beating faster when I wondered if I would be able to stop. So, I don't go too fast and try to leave plenty of room in front in case I do have to hit the binders. I don't know what kind of boat you have, but 3,600 lbs seems to be light for a 24' boat if the trailer is factored in. Then, there's the liability. If you did have an accident, you can bet if any lawyers are involved, the suitability of your tow vehicle will probably be brought up, especially if braking is an issue. I would also think with a 24' boat, the trailer would be at least 26'. That's a lot of length behind the relatively short Edge and I would think it would sway enough to make you hold your breath some times. IMHO, get another tow vehicle.
  4. I just saw the following on ford.com re the 2.0 engine. I guess I'll have to get the regular 3.5L Limited since I need both towing (up to 3000 lbs) AND AWD for winter driving to my ski areas. 2.0L I-4 EcoBoost™ engine with 6-speed automatic transmission (Not available with AWD, SelectShift™ Transmission or Trailer Tow Package)
  5. I assume you now have your Edge Sport. I was just on the Ford website and from what I've read, the tow package is NOT available on the Sport model. That said, I sure you could have a aftermarket receiver hitch installed without worrying about not having the factory tow package since you're only talking about towing 1000 lbs. I on the other hand have an occasional requirement to tow around 2500 lbs. I would love to get the Sport, but I guess I'll have to settle for the Limited with the factory tow package.
  6. Different strokes for different folks. That's why they invented the color purple! Personally I like it. However, I had one of these so-called "steps" which any trucker/SUV owner would tell you are actually called NERF BARS. About the only time I used them was when washing the top of the vehicle.
  7. Anyone know the trailer weight limit for the 2.0L ECO engine will be? I presently have a '10 Ford Flex with the ECO option and I love it. I'm in the process of selling my trailer mounted boat and when it 's gone, I think I'll slip down to an Edge with ECO. I understand the regular Edge with the trailer package has a 3500 lb limit. I'm hoping the 2.0 ECO has a similar limit. I could live with 2500 lbs, but I would certainly prefer 3500 lbs. Re the premium, I could care less. That's all I feed my Flex. Hey, we're only talking $2 or $3 extra for the good gas. Now if I drove 20k yearly, maybe I would think about it, but I don't.
