  1. I recently had a flat tire. First flat with this car. I have a 2008 AWD edge with 20" rims. I like that the spare is in the cargo area, but I was surprised to see that spare tire/donut is 17". I was under the impression that with AWD it was important to run all 4 wheels with the same tire size. The spare tire area is big enough to store the full size tire in there when the spare is on the car, so why wouldn't they supply a 20" spare on all vehicles with the 20"rim/tire? I bought the car used, so maybe the dealer switched the spare?? Has anyone else run into this issue?? Is the 17" spare standard on an AWD with 20" rims? Or is it no big deal to run a smaller spare tire?
  2. We had our 2008 awd edge on the beach on the outer banks in NC. We had some trouble at first, but someone in a huge pickup stopped us and told us to lower the air pressure in our tires to 10lbs. I was hesitant at first, but since we were already stuck I figured we didn't have much to lose. It worked! We were able to drive over a fairly deep dune and onto firmer ground. Although the Edge did perform ok on the moderately deep sand, I don't think I'd try it again. It is certainly not as capable as a 4x4. It is definitely too low and the stock tires are too narrow for competent deep sand use.
  3. I bought a 2008 edge Ford Certified used, with 47k on the odometer. When we bought it, the front brakes were grinding. Ford fixed this before we drove the car off the lot. It now has 71k on the odometer and the brakes are grinding again. The car doesn't pull left or right when applying the brakes, and I can't feel any vibration in the brake pedal. The sound doesn't seem to happen when the road is wet. The sound is very loud and concerning. Having to start with brake issues after 24k miles (even with dealer servicing) is concerning. I have driven only Ford vehicles since 1995. This is my third Ford product, and I have owned cars from virtually every American manufacturer. I have am always gentle on the brakes. I have NEVER had brake issues after so few miles. VERY DISAPPOINTING.
  4. I have a 2008 AWD, 20" rims. 3-4 fill-ups, 50/50 city/hwy driving. We average about 17 MPG.
  5. Had no one found a permanent fix for this? I had the same problem yesterday myself. After switching it to manual and closing it vigoroulsy, it operated a few times automatically just fine...and then went right back to not closing.
  6. Just had the factory sub and amp replaced via warranty. So far sounds good. Supposedly the connection from the amp to the sub goes bad and needs replacement. If it happens again, I'll replace with aftermarket stuff.
  7. Got the Edge back recently. I was told that dirt/grease accumulates in the track ovet time and that causes the motor to work extra hard. It gets "tired" and moves slowly. They disassembled the tracks, cleaned them, and re-assembled. No new parts. Works fine. For now.
  8. There is a telephone # on the display that you can call to get updated map disks. It comes up everytime you have to hit the "I agree" button when the screen that tells you not to take your attention off the road when you are driving comes up...
  9. Update: Dealer says they have to order parts that are on "backorder" and won't be in until after New Year's. Apparently this problem is pretty common. I didn't ask what the part was, unfortunately. I'll ask when I pick it up this week.
  10. I also am having the exact same issue. Just purchased the Edge 3 weeks ago. Test drove the hell out of it. The roof was fine. We must have opened and closed it 10X without incident. We made a deal and purchased it. Picked it up the following day, and as the salesman was showing me and the wife how to use all the gadgets, the roof stopped working for the salesman (thank you, God). We had to push it closed for the last 8 or so inches. He tried the greasing the rails thing and that didn't work at all. So for the 1st 2 weeks, we didn't open the roof at all. Dropped it off for service last Friday. Just called to see what is going on b/c I have heard nothing from the dealership. I was told that it is "being looked at now" and will get a call when they know something. Today is Thursday. They've already had it for 6 days. I'm beginning to worry.
  11. Adam Pacheco has addressed this problem on page 4 of this thread, I believe. The topic is "2007 Edge Bass Cuts Out". The problem originates at the amp on the back of the sub woofer box.
  12. I am having the EXACT same issue. Just purchased it. 2008 Limited AWD. It has a 3 month, 3000 mile warranty, so it is in the shop right now. When I get it back, and if it is fixed, I'll let you know what they told me they did to fix it.
  13. Crutchfield.com carries a box that fits in the factory opening. You can also shop for components that are vehicle specific and the website even tells you which components will or won't fit. Great website, great tech support. No, i don't work for them. I have found them to be very useful in the past.
  14. Just purchased a "Ford Certified" 2008 Edge. Love the styling, love the AWD, Love the SYNC, love the vista roof. And it's zippy on the highway. Traded in a Chevy Trainblazer for it. That thing couldn't get out of its own way. I'm hoping for many years of satisfied ownership. I keep my cars just about forever. I'm a Ford guy. I have a '99 Mountaineer with 168,000k on the odometer and a '95 Mustang GT with 147,000k on the clock. The Chevy was my wife's idea. It didn't work out.
