  1. When I changed the pads and rotors on my XB there was an adhesive to put between the pad and the caliper to help with noise issues. My thought was maybe the stuff on the wheels is that. possibly getting hot and melting then finding its way to the wheel... Just a thought

  2. Our Limited with MFT is unpredictable at best. We have had this problem and others such as blind spot monitoring (BSM) going away without notice, or the back up camera not coming on until it feels like it, phone taking forever to work, etc. Latest was it wouldn't come out of park which was not a MFT issue. Traced it to fuse 59 which was for brake lights. For some reason it blew and the car will not come out of park if the brake lights don't work. When you get used to using the BSM and it quits with no message, life can be interesting.

Basically, I'm to the point I don't trust the car. I carry a spare GPS in the car for times when the Nav doesn't want to work.

All of this is a real shame because the basic car is a good one.

You should never rely on the BSM. It is there in case you miss something not so you don't have to turn your head...... This is why technology like this scares me......

  3. I chuckled when I saw

"My daughter's MFT in her 2012 Focus works flawlessly except for 2 lockups requiring a fuse pull right after she got it 2 months ago. And she's a "real" person. "

"Except for 2 lockups in 2 months"???? "Requiring a fuse pull"? There should be none. My wife has an 11 Equinox with voice control and touch screen and has not had one lockup. I have an 11 Edge and have regular problems, and it is not because I do not wait long enough after car start or I do no know how to use the system. I also refuse to consider pulling the fuse or disconnecting the battery as a solution.

I am patient and I will just wait and see. I appreciate Ford doing the Beta testing, but if it does not resolve problems for basically all owners, I think they are in for some big problems, operationally and PR.

I did some searching around and There seems to be a common issue with the 11 equinox having engine issues with stalling and leaving people stranded, also steering issues and HVAC controls shorting out and transmission issues... your wife has been lucky.... I will take a MFT that frustrates me slightly...... At least I know I will make it home.... Ford is trying to fix the issues with MFT many Equinox owners have been told sucks to be you by their dealers....

  4. Really there is no difference. Wether you have problems 5% of the time or 80% of the time. Anything over 0% is unacceptable.

I think Ford's CEO Alan Mulally would understand this. Hell, he designed the 777 cockpit. Do you think he would have accepted 2 lockups in 2 months in his aircraft?

This malfunctioning MFT should not be taken lightly. Aircraft or autos...people's lives are at stake here.

I hope to hell that I don't kill someone because I'm preoccupied with my F'd up MFT.

The tag line for Ford Sync is Hands on the wheel and Eyes on the road

With MFT, my hands are off the wheel & my eyes are off the road.

This is a major FORD FAIL and I don't understand why some people still try to sweep it under the carpet.

Sorry there is a huge difference between 5% of the time and 80% of the time........ There are no lives at stake..... What is really that important with the MFT that you couldn't pull over and figure out what you need to... Unless there is auto pilot installed and no one told me I really don't think any ones life is at stake. It even tells you do not touch the screen unless safe to do so...

comparing a million dollar aircraft and a $30,000-$40,000 car is a bit far fetched.... The aircraft is in the sky and a car is on the ground.. A car malfunctions unless it is the brakes, headlights at night or the steering you are still good to go...

I don't believe anyone is taking the problems with MFT lightly... Many have just had less problems than others..... I personally knew this car pretty much had a computer in it. I never expected it to work 100% of the time. My garmin Nuvi doesn't work 100% of the time. This one just bothers people so much because of the cost of the car.....

A major fail would be if it didn't work 80% of the time for everyone.... The other thought is if it was a major fail then no one would be buying one of their vehicles with MFT.....

  5. Your last statement about the audio source is spot on.

I'm not so sure about the hyper statements though. My personal experience (16 months. 20k + miles) it doesn't matter how long I give the system to boot up. MFT decides to randomly pick features to fail. Ex. My iPod has been the car since day one. No new music added but MFT decides to render it unusable cuz it's indexing. Voice response...I hit the button and she answers me 5 minutes later.

I'm sure you will realize these features as the months go on.

I have had the same indexing problems you speak of. Just out of curiosity what iPod are you using? I am using the 2nd gen iPod Nano. My indexing only lasts at longest 2 mins. I have cd's and sirius to also listen to so doesn't really bother me that much. As far as the voice response time that sucks. Longest I have had to wait is a few seconds, however it has made the chime then went back to playing music. I have noticed on mine it only does it when I first start the car up. If I do it after I have been driving for a few mins there is very little lag in voice.

  6. Its interesting this was posted today. I ran mine through a touch less wash and it was a little tight width wise. So afterwards I looked to make sure I didn't hit my rims on the round metal bars. I noticed this lovely sticky stuff on mine. Perfect timing. Glad to know it isn't something I did or drove through

  7. In mid September our 2003 Passat wagon (loved that car) was sideswiped in a traffic accident in Duluth and needed to be replaced. Since that purchase in 2002 we are (now) retired and so our requirements and wish list has changed. BTW:

    - our cars live on our driveway and are NEVER garaged.

    - our cars are equipped with block heaters, that's it.

    - unless we are driving babies or grandparents, we never idle ours cars, regardless of the temperature. Start and go, just don't accelerate hard for the 1st 5 minutes. I avoid lineups in Tim Horton;s by going inside.

Mandatory: easy (as in higher) entry, sunroof, HID headlights, leather with heated seats

    Optional: AWD or 4WD

Short list became Toyota Venza, Subaru Outback and Ford Edge. A year ago a Murano would have made the list but now no, and I can't give a good reason.

Well, our 2011 Edge is now 6 days old. We placed our order on Oct 22 and it was ready to go on December 7. We waited 46 days and to pass the time I frequented this forum and read many posts to learn as much as practicable so now it my turn to post our impressions.

2011 Edge Limited AWD, Bordeaux Reserve with Sienna Leather. Ordered options; Canadian Touring package (really wanted the BAMR), block heater (hey, we live in Winnipeg!), rubber floor mats, trailer hitch, and HID headlights.

We bought the car in Steinbach (about 40miles away) and had to return to the dealer after lunch – we couldn't locate the block heater… Although the first impression is almost overwhelming (How do I get the heated seats on? Where is the button for the Sirius radio? Where is the volume control?) by the end of day 2 that had mostly disappeared and by day 3 we were both comfortable working the ventilation and sound systems.

    Good Stuff:

    - The ride is firm and stable and as others have mentioned the AWD performs unobtrusively.

    - The heating system is excellent and the heated seats work very well.

    - Love the great big glass roof!

    - The Sony sound system is great. I haven't tried the cd player yet but my Ipod works well as does a couple of usb sticks. We don't (yet) have a bluetooth cell but that is coming for Christmas.

    - Quite pleased with the Sync graphical user interface (GUI). Does everything well and the displays are bright and clear. If anything there is too much information! I have already loaded a selection of wallpapers of the grandkids…

    - Rear camera and warning chimes are quite accurate and handy.

    - Lighting system is excellent and the HIDs are worth every penny! Good flat pattern. The puddle lights (that's what they are called on VW/Audi) on the bottom of the mirrors are good.

    - The daylight running lights (DRLs) are separate bright amber lights so the headlights are not used. The usual approach is to use the lowbeam headlights at 80% which shortens headlight bulb life. Well done Ford!

    Could be better:

    - the leather seats bottoms could be about an inch longer and would offer more support

    - the warning hazard switch should be relocated to right of the steering column and should be a button similar to the seat 1&2 buttons. I think the design committee clearly won over the function committee..

    - The front headrests should allow some adjustment.

    - The driver information (trip odometer, mileage, etc) could be better designed. In our 8 yr old Passat the trip computer was always visible and provided far more information. In the Edge you have to "drill down" to get less information.

    Missed the boat:

    - Other than the fact that center screen is clear and is quite large, the SD based nav system is not good. Perhaps if I didn't already use a portable GPS then it would be marginally acceptable but if I was to rate my $220 Garmin 1390 (with lifetime maps) as a 9/10, the Edge sd system would rate a 3/10, 2 for the display and another 1 because I may be expecting too much. It's too bad because just about everything else in the GUI is well thought out.

Conclusion: Great, good looking and capable car. Very satisified with our purchase.

And yes, I have seen the blank screen followed by "Sytem maintenance" message while attempting to enter an address in the nav mode! I'm even getting used to the chrome wheels…

I realize this is an old post but I also agree with where the hazard light button is. I am coming from an 08 Scion XB. I loved that the hazard switch was on the drivers side between the gear shift and the heating and cooling controls. I never had to look down when traffic slowed quickly and was able to feel it and hit it with zero problems.

  8. Dont buy a MFT product!!!! It will make you mad every single day!!! Maybe the new software will fix it, maybe not. Wait to see what "real" people say when they see it. I like tech stuff, I like setting up tech stuf. I hate the MFT, it doesnt work worth a damn and crashes almost once a day especially if you have been trying to use it. If this thing was a phone they would have had them all returned. I am not very price senstive and price had very little to do with the car I picked. I picked a MFT car cause I though the MFT was a plus, it is not. It is a huge minus. Dont buy one! You have been warned!!

From your post I would be willing to bet you are a very hyper person. Here is the picture you paint in my mind. Push button doesn't work.... Continue pushing button until it does.

I have found that it is just like a computer it takes a little bit to start up. I have had a few issues but to be honest they are easily remedied. I have had the black screen once in 2600 miles and 2 months. I left walmart and within 4 mins it did a weekly update and worked normally. It is a little bit sluggish, but to be honest my iPhone 4 gets that way some times. I would be willing to bet that people get in and start pushing a bunch of buttons before the system is ready to go thus causing it to lock up. Take any microsoft computer and start it up then as soon as your desktop shows up give it a bunch of commands and see what happens....

The only really annoying thing I have found is that I never know what will be playing when I get in. I shut the car off on my iPod and next time it is on the radio. Then next time on Sirius. As said simple issues and fixed by changing what is playing...

  9. I'm new to this site and did some minor searching for my concern but didn't notice anything. I have a 2008 Edge (Limited) that has heated mirrors that don't seem to work. I realize that they come on when you turn on the defrosters but the mirrors never defrost! Could it be a fuse?

Possibly when everything is turned on correctly that should be the next place you look. Good Luck!

  10. Not sure about the explorer wheels, but I noticed somewhere someone was selling a set of the 18's. That is what I have on my limited. you will get a little bit better fuel economy, plusher ride, and tires will be a little bit cheaper... Just a thought... Plus from looking at your wheel it might possibly save you from hitting rim next time....

  11. 11 edge only had it 2 months, have 3,000 miles on it. I get 19.8 around town and recent trip from NY to KY I got between 22-25 mpg with AWD. I personally think that is great. I was only getting 28 mpg on the highway with my 08 xb and we only get 24mpg with my finance's 06 Mazda 6s with the 3.0 V6... Also only get 22mpg with my moms 04 Ford Escape 3.0 V6 4X4...That is max Escape is usually closer to 18 mpg..

  12. Personally I am a 25 year old male that travels the US for work. I leased the 11 Edge Limited Awd. So far I love it. I personally don't think a car is a guys car or a girls car except for a few exceptions. Honestly as long as it is not pink or purple you are good to go. In college I drove a 1998 New Beetle black with a 5 speed. It wasn't very quick but I knew that car inside and out and it handled like a dream in the snow. I was the one with the last laugh when the local evo driver in town picked on me and the next snow storm I passed him. He was more worried about the fact that it was awd and neglected his tires. I also was picked on by many Honda civic owners. thing is unless they drove a EX My lil bug was faster. And in the snow forget it... Now if we were talking about a Mazda RX8 then I would say yes that is a wife car. But the Edge no. If the Edge is classified as a wife car then every SUV or CUV on the planet is a wife car....

  13. 2008 Edge Limited; check engine light came on today for the first time, and sputtering of the engine happened. RPM's were hovering around 300 - 500, and nearly stalled out (this was when idling). After driving, all went well.

Located (as name states) in Europe, so I need to have the best idea first...

    Thanks for the help.

Possibly water in the gas? Loose ground?

  14. No, I didn't know you could. I tried looking in the manual but found nothing.

I have 11 limited awd but should be the same for you. mine is in the left screen next to speedo.

I don't remember which menu option it is under but I will look today and post later this afternoon.

  15. I've tried everything. The front wheels are totally in the mud, about where you can't see any of the lower part of the tyre. I need to tow it with my truck, and I don't know where I can hook it up? I can't tow it from the back. It's a 2011 Ford Edge Limited FWD.

not sure on that but have you shut the traction control off?

  16. Hi everyone,

I currently have an iPhone 3G (yeah, one of the originals, I think lol) but it works beautifully with my 2011 Edge Limited. I would like to upgrade to the new iPhone 4S but I'm hesitant because I hate to mess with a good thing! For anyone who has the new iPhone 4S, have you had any problems with it working with your Edge? Any feedback is appreciated. Thanks and Happy New Year to everyone :)

I have the iPhone 4 not the s here and mine works fine as well too. I can't speak for the s. But as far as the iPhone you currently have it is the 2nd iPhone. I believe the update only went back as far as the 3Gs not the 3G. There was iPhone(2007), iPhone 3G(2008), iPhone 3Gs(2009), iPhone 4(2010), & iPhone 4S(2011).

  17. Hello all!

I'm new here and I've been lurking around the forums since I bought my Edge, never bothered making an account until I had these questions :P

I've had my Ford Edge 2011 for 3 months now and I'm looking to spice it up somehow. So my first question is:

What if I install Xenon lights? Gonna buy em from my Ford Agency. They cost around 1500 SAR which equals to around $400. Worth it?

2nd question is about the new update, since my car doesn't have sirus or navigation installed (The top right green corner in MFT reads ''Information'' instead of ''Navigation" and shows the calender and other stuff), is it okay to download the update from Syncmyride and install it myself after I register my vehicle?

As far as the update, isn't a problem because you register your vin number with syncmyride.com so it knows what you have in your car.

  18. I have always thought that I was putting my family and my health at risk by not running winter tires and wheels on my vehicles, but to be honest, could never really afford it before now. Still can't, LOL. I will outline below my process for preparing them for installation. One thing I did find strange however is that after installing them and driving, I did not get a TPS fault. I'm guessing something is wrong as the tires did not come with TPM, so my understanding is that every time I start up I should get the fault showing the system is not getting a signal.

Anyway, after some research, I decided to go with 17" wheels (I run the stock 20" chrome) and Blizzak WS70's in a 235/65R 17 along with these wheels:

    http://www.racelinew...t/large/747.jpg

I wanted to install them myself so I can store the summer set in my basement. I got them from Belle Tire in Detroit. I got the shim set for them as well. I wanted to wheels to have maximum protection from the elements so I did the following procedure to prepare them:

    1) Wash them with ONR and dry

    2) Add 2 coats of Optimum Opti Guard (professional version) to both the wheel faces and the barrels.

    3) After an hour cure time, I added a coat of Permanon Platinum to both areas as well

    4) Tires were treated to Duragloss Wet Shine

I had to wait until yesterday to install the package as we drove my car to Florida to take a cruise from Miami. I did not want to be driving on them in the hot weather. It's been an extremely mild winter here so far so there has not been an issue with the stock tires on until now. Ironically, winter is hitting us tonight and the weather is changing to winter by tomorrow. My timing ended up being perfect. Here are a few shots of the car getting cleaned from the trip and then with the new wheels installed:

I drove it today and was amazed at how well they handle as well as how quiet they are. I was expecting road noise from them. Not so. I am very impressed with the tires in the dry and rain so far. Tomorrow the snow comes; we'll see how they do then too!

I get a little confused when people say they can't afford winter tires... You can afford a $50,000 car but you can't afford another $1000 in tires and wheels? I would say if money is that tight you shouldn't have bout the Lincoln and bought the edge instead.... I live in NY and people here have to have a "sports" car for summer so bad that they go and buy a Camero or mustang and then drive it in the winter.....
