  1. We went with the Sport edition. My wife wanted the moonroof and the sync system. As we started looking, it seemed to be not much more for the Sport, and I wanted it for the 3.7l and the 22" wheels. We probably could have gotten a limited and been just as happy. I would've just added custom wheels myself, but we had never owned a Sport edition and I knew this may be the only time we could afford one, so we splurged. Ever since, I'm re-thinking the purchase, but my wife is happy overall with the car from a size and power perspective, so it's all good.
  2. Let me preface this with the fact that I'm a huge FORD fan. I have owned over 1/2 a dozen Fords now and I have been pretty happy with them all. However...this 2012 Ford Edge Sport - not happy. With all of the Ford's I've owned over the years, I've always looked at the Sport editions and thought to myself, "someday maybe I can afford one of them.". But financially, all we could afford were the lower end models all the time, which was fine with us. A new car is a new car right? Well, back in 2012, my wife was in need of a new car. Since we didn't have a second car payment at the time, we decided to spend a little more and really get a "nice" Ford for a change, not just a lower end model. Apparently, they only put the quality in their lower end models as this Sport and been nothing but trouble since the beginning. It all started with continuous SYNC issues. Our Edge had been in close to a dozen times within the first year for SYNC issues alone. As expected, Ford said it was Apple's issue and Apple said it was Ford's issue. So there never was any real resolution. They replaced the system several times, reset it numerous times and to no avail. After beating a dead horse to death, we just don't use the SYNC and problem solved. Paid a lot of money for this fancy feature and it's useless. But it beats having it in the shop every few weeks for nothing positive to come of it. Had it in for an alignment 3 different times and it still pulled to the right. Had to take it to a professional tire shop and "pay" for the alignment just to get it right. I understand that's the dealership and not FORD, but frustrating no less when something so simple can't even be handled by one of the largest dealerships in the St. Louis area. This car also had shifting issues and after some research, took it in to have the computer reset. Luckily that problem was an easy fix for the dealership. The key fobs are constantly failing and once you finally can get in the car and start it, then the notice comes up saying the key is not present. According to the dealer, there are sensors that have to be cleaned periodically. Ugh. What a pain. Throw in the fact that overall, some of the body panels don't even line up nicely and I'd say for the $40k price tag, this car is SO not worth it. My used 2008 Fusion puts this car to shame from a quality standpoint. And our 2001 GT Mustang hasn't even been in the shop as much as this 2012 model...and it's 14 years old! So for anyone considering a Ford Edge "Sport" I'd highly suggest a Fusion or a Focus. Apparently Ford only puts quality into their lower end vehicles. Just my .02¢ for anyone considering a Ford Edge Sport.
  3. Of course the dealer says that. Our Sport has been in over 7 times now for the SYNC issues and they always say they've never had one with this kind of problem. Typical BS response. And I'm glad to see this pdf for the clunking transmission as ours has done it since we bought it and it's getting more and more prevalent. Time for yet another service visit for the transmission and SYNC as it still doesn't work after 1 year of ownership. I'm really starting to re-think the purchase of this car. It's turned into nothing but a non-stop service call. My $16,000.00 ZX3 NEVER had this many issues. You spend 40k for a 'nice' vehicle, you'd think you wouldn't have these problems.
  4. After all the issues we've had with our SYNC system, Ford finally said my wife's iPhone 4 was bad and probably has a virus. Not a good answer as far as we're concerned, but my wife said fine...she was wanting a new iPhone 5 anyway, so they said our SYNC system was 'fixed' but to wait until she got the new iPhone 5 before trying it again in order to not 'corrupt' it. Well...we both got new iPhone 5's over the weekend and whadda ya know...the friggin SYNC system still does not work!! We paired both phones to the car and still does not work. We used the voice command to try to make 6 different phone calls and every time we'd say a name, it would try calling a totally different name...ones that didn't even 'sound' the same as the ones we asked it to call. It'll work to change the SIRIUS channels, but to use it for phone calls...no go! So...as soon as we can find time, looks like we'll be taking this piece of shit back to Ford for about the 8th time I think it is now. Such a shame because the EDGE as a vehicle is by far our favorite we've ever owned...but this SYNC system was a complete waste of money.
  5. Thanks. I use Adobe Illustrator CS5. Some of these are illustrated from freehand sketches, some are created using photos as guides. It all depends on what I...or the customer...is looking for. kc300c...I sent you a message. ;-)
  6. In an effort to get to know people a bit more here and also let people get to know me...figured I'd share some of my car artwork. For my daily grind, I work a full-time gig at a Fortune 500 company as the Graphics Manager, but in the evenings and weekends, I have my own business doing automotive design...logos, T-shirt artwork, custom paint design, renderings, etc. So with that, here are a few of my latest designs... Every year I design my own holiday cards to mail to customers and friends/family... This is just a rendering of a mini-truck...one of my faves... This was a custom paint design I recently did for this Sebring MG... This is one of my TMooreGraphics T-shirts... And this is a new T-shirt I'm getting ready to have printed... There you have it...a little insight into me, my artwork and my passion for cars. I've been doodling cars since birth...started doing this side business back in 1992-ish and it continues to grow. I've gotten to do many really cool projects over the years, met many great people and still to this day absolutely love doing it. I hope you all enjoy.
  7. I guess it all comes down to how picky you are and how long you want them to last. I bought a set of chrome 20's back in 2006 for our Mercury Mariner. Changed them out every winter and they still look like new...6 years later. In fact, I'm thinking of using them as my "winter wheels" for our Edge Sport so as to keep the Sport wheels new for the next several years. The old chrome 20's have served me well for 6 years on our Mariner and I don't have the budget for a new set of custom wheels for the new Edge right now...plus I really like the stock 22's.
  8. You can certainly run aftermarket wheels in the winter but why would you? I have custom wheels for all three of my cars and I swap back to the stock wheels every fall (October-ish) and run my stock wheels in the winter months. Keeping aftermarket wheels clean is tough when it's cold outside...but my bigger fear is sliding into a curb with them and tearing them up. A likely thing in the snow and ice. It's up to you, but when spending $1800 to 2500.00 a set on aftermarket wheels/tires, I'd take them off in the winter and keep them nicer for a longer time.
  9. We've owned our Edge Sport for 3 months now. Technically it's my wifes car, but I drive it on evenings/weekends. Let me start off by saying the EDGE Sport itself kicks ass! I love it. A few quality issues here and there, but I'm probably more picky than most. And the things I've found are overall nothing major really. The styling is top notch, the ride quality is superb, road noise is minimal, overall I'd give the car a 9 out of 10. As for the SYNC system...I can not give it a score low enough. Microsoft proves to me once again why I'm an Apple lover and why their products are inferior to Apple. The second (or third) week we owned the car, we took it on a long road trip. The car itself was great, but halfway through the trip, the SYNC would not work. Voice commands don't even come close to working, tried to type addresses into the navigation and suddenly the keyboard would just start dropping letters and then disappear. Thank God we had our iPhones with us because the navigation on the SYNC got us lost the first two times and then wouldn't even work the rest of the trip. We've had the car into the dealership 4, maybe 5 times now and still the SYNC system does not work. Ford tries to say it's the phone, but it can't be since both my and my wifes phone worked for the first couple weeks of owning the car. And neither of us upgraded or changed our phones so they can't blame that either. Basically...I wish we would have never gotten the SYNC because now it's a battle with Ford to fix and then my wife gets upset each time we get it back that it still doesn't work. I've been buying Ford's since 1996 because my brother worked at the Hazelwood, MO assembly plant. The discount is nice, but I've since grown to love Ford's quality. In fact, my bro now works for a different auto manufacturer and he still gets the Ford discount and we continue to keep buying Ford products. But this is the first time we've had a major issue with any Ford and it's really aggravating that they can't get this resolved. Do I love our Edge Sport?...yes! Do I love the SYNC system?...not a chance in hell! Will I continue to buy Ford products?...I guess it depends on if they get this SYNC issue resolved and if Ford/Microsoft better improve it on future models.
  10. I know this is a slightly older topic, but i wanted to weigh in. I'm a car fanatic and have lowered almost every car I've ever owned over the past 26 years. Sure, you can just change out the springs...you don't 'have to' replace the shocks, but every car I've ever put springs on ended up wearing out the shocks much faster and I've ended up adding new shocks within a couple years anyway. H&R made a "Cup-Kit" for my old ZX3 I owned and it was a set of springs and shocks paired to work as a kit. That was the best $550.00 I ever spent on a suspension kit. That car handled like a sports car...smooth yet tight at the same time. Exit ramps were fun, twisties were fun...definitely worth the money spent. In fact, I'm contemplating a similar purchase for our 2001 Mustang GT as the H&R springs I put on it on 2002-ish were later complimented with aftermarket struts and it still rides rough and crappy. My old 97 Ranger had a full DJM suspension kit...shocks, spindles, shocks. And my first full size pickup used a full Bell-Tech suspension kit...lowering springs, spindles, shocks...the whole enchilada. Rode damn near like factory. Put 1.5" springs on our older Taurus and it rode fair with stock shocks, but I traded it in before they wore out on the aforementioned ZX3. I've got a 92 GMC Sierra as well currently and it's dropped, but not properly. The springs were cut and an axle flip kit on the rear, but truthfully it still rides very well for a 3/5 drop. I'd love to lower our Edge Sport, but it's my wifes car and since our other two vehicles are lowered she wants her car to still ride 'nice' as she says. My 92 GMC is lowered and to me rides good, but still rather bouncy and as I said, our 01 GT Mustang pretty much rides like a tank. ;-) So just a word of advice from someone who has owned many lowered vehicles over the past 20+ years...if you're buying springs, I'd highly suggest a quality shock/strut combo to compliment it for maximum ride quality. Why not do it right and replace it all at once instead of tearing it apart twice?
  11. I'm a detailing freak. I claybar and polish my cars every 6 months...sometimes more frequently than that. I use a 3-bucket wash method and take a lot of pride in keeping my cars all looking their best. I used to be a huge Meguiar's fan. But once I started hanging around detailcity (what is now autopia) I started to experiment with some different products. Now, I pretty much use Poorboy's products exclusively. I've tried a few others, but Poorboy's seems to work easily and are relatively inexpensive. A quick rundown of my 'detailing' regimine using Poorboy's products goes like this... Poorboy's claybar (with poorboy's QD as lube) SSR1 (for swirl removal) (sometimes SSR2.5 if it needs it) (applied with Meguair's orbital buffer) Black Hole glaze (for extra gloss on my dark colored cars) (White Diamond for light colored car) EX-P (for protection) Natty's blue paste wax (2 coats over top of that) (I've tried the Natty's red, but it's harder to remove and really no noticeable difference) Bold-n-Brite on the tires (for a nice satin-like finish) Poorboy's sells small 'sample' kits so you may want to buy a couple of them and experiment...see what you think. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised at how easy they are to use and how good of results you'll get. Now, for glass I use Stoners and recently tried Aquapel which I think works just as good as Stoners truly. Hopefully my little bit of product insight will help you. If you have any other questions, let me know.
  12. We've officially gotten rid of our 2006 Mercury Mariner. She's been replaced with a 2012 Ford Edge "Sport"...dark blue pearl metallic. This baby's completely loaded...3.7L Duratec V6, 305HP, 6-speed SelectShift automatic, heated leather seats, panoramic sunroof, SYNC, nav, 22" wheels, rear view camera, blind spot monitoring...the works! We've never owned a car this loaded...never owed so much on a car either...hehe. We literally drove it off the lot at 9:00 last night, so I haven't been able to get any good pics other than a few on the lot while I was waiting. A complete detail and proper photo shoot is coming in the next week or two. We've gotta take it on a road trip this weekend so I'll have no time to clean it...just lots of behind-the-wheel time. So, for now, here are a few pics I snapped at the dealer last night finishing it up... No plans for it as of yet, other than I'll likely tint out the front side windows to match the rest and maybe a tinted banner across the front window. Still need to start researching what things are available for it. I would like to paint out the grill to match the blue. The pearl black is cool...but I'd really like it to be blue. Hope you like it. Comments and critiques are welcome. Oh, and this is what we got rid of...
  13. Pics please! Anxious to see what a 2" drop does for it.
  14. Hi. I'm a newbie here, but not new to Fords by any means. I used to be a Chevy fan (still am) but my brother worked at the Hazelwood, MO Ford Assy plant for years and so I was able to benefit from his A-plan pricing. One purchase and I have been hooked on Ford's...mostly because of the discount, but also because of the excellent quality I've seen out of the half-dozen or more we've owned now. A quick "about me"...I'm a 42 y/o male, work a full-time gig at a local Fortune 500 company, and then run my own Automotive Graphic Design business (www.tmooregraphics.com) on the side doing renderings, logo design, custom paint design, T-shirt artwork, etc. Cars a a huge part of my life. I'm a fanatic about keeping my cars clean and detailed and I like to customize them as well. With that out of the way, my wife and I are trading in our black 2006 Mercury Mariner for a 2012 Edge Sport...hopefully today! The car is being delivered to the dealership and if all goes well, she should be ours tonight. We waited for about a month to see the new Escape, thinking that was what we wanted, but as it turns out, the new Escape just didn't 'wow' us for lack of a better term. After driving and edge limited, my wife loved it...hence, that's where we ended up. I nudged her a bit for the Sport edition, but the ride and comfort was great. I'll post pics up of our new 'baby' once we get her, but in the meantime, here are some pics of our current cars... My 1992 GMC Sierra... The wife's 2006 Mariner... and our 2001 Mustang GT... And because I miss it, here's my prior 2001 ZX3, which I traded in for the Mariner in 2006... So there you have it...a bit about me and my love for cars. As I said, I'll be sharing pics of our Edge Sport as soon as we get it. I can't wait to spend a weekend thoroughly detailing and polishing the new paint to a flawless shine. See you all around the boards...I'm looking forward to seeing what others have done to 'customize' their Edges.
