  1. There is a big difference between not owning up to problems and not extending the factory warranty on an item that's know to fail in some cases.

I've seen Ford do extended warranties on certain parts and certain vehicles so it does happen. I don't know what they use to decide each case.

I would like to see Ford extend the warranty on parts with known high failure rates.

That's exactly what I meant when I said "not owning up to" the problems I mentioned above. I meant doing the right thing regarding high-failure items replacing them at no cost to the customer.

  2. Sorry, I forgot to post an update earlier. About two weeks ago, I bought a new TB on eBay for ~$120 and replaced it myself (my warranty's expired). Prior to buying and changing the TB, I wanted to make sure that this would fix the problem, so I talked to a good friend of mine who had this happen last year (goes by "Dingo" on this forum). I wanted to know if the problem returned after the TB swap. DIngo said that this fault hasn't returned on his Edge since having the TB changed. That gave me some reassurance that this was the right repair for this problem.

It's very easy to do. Just remove the intake hose, disconnect the wiring plug from the TB,and then the TB comes off after removing four bolts. The whole process should take at most an hour, so I'm not sure why it costs upwards of $700 at the dealership. For me it took a little longer because I also installed a K&N Cold Air Intake the same time. But by replacing the TB myself, I saved a ton of money, and had the fun and satisfaction of turning the wrenches and fixing it myself. Right after I swapped the TB, my wife took the Edge on a 1200 mile round trip journey to Alabama and didn't have any problems.

But here's what I don't understand, and maybe the Ford Service folks can explain for us: It seems (at least from what people discuss on this forum) that that there are several wide-spread problems with various systems/parts on the Edge and that they're present in both first and second generation models. I'm talking about this throttle body problem, the recurring problem with the Vista roof not closing or closing slowly, and the door ajar sensor issue. At what point does Ford finally own up to the fact that these parts were faulty designs to begin with or faulty parts/systems or whatever and recall/replace them at no cost to the customer, no matter what the individual mileage may be on a given Edge? I'm sure there are many more people dealing with these issues than just what we've seen on this forum. I'd like to see some statistic from Ford Service on these three issues regarding how many parts have been replaced and/or service has been performed for these three prominent problems.

To not own up to major problems like these doesn't speak too well to Ford's "Quality is Job 1" mantra, and could drive loyal Ford customers towards other brands...

  3. My 2011 Limited has now done this to me four or five times in the last two weeks-once on a busy interstate highway. I cleaned the TB last week, but obviously that hasn't helped. I think I'm going to bite the bullet and order and new one and swap it. I have ~57K miles on the car.

  5. As long as you only use MAF cleaner on it, you can clean it as often as you so desire. Last night, I changed my oil/filter, cleaned the MAF sensor, and cleaned the throttle body. Throttle response seemed a little better this morning on the way to work. I'm going on a road trip this weekend, so hopefully I'll see a bit of an improvement in MPG. Of course, that's largely dependent on the weight of my right foot! :shift:

  6. I've been debating this too. From the research I've done, it appears that the Gibson system has a bit of a deeper, more aggressive tone than the Magnaflow. The Gibson system is also several hundred dollars cheaper than the Magnaflow. As soon as I get the $$$ cobbled together, I'm buying the Gibson system.

  7. give my method a shot. It's only 12$ in 2 cans. Mines prior to spraying was stuck 100% on the ajar light. Now its about 3 out of the 10 door close will not triggervthe ajar off. So spaying DOES do something.

I've already done that, and it helps. It isn't occurring as frequently as before spraying it now.

  8. Guess what? My problem is back. But it's the otherwise now. Lol. I got lucky with the DS door.. that is solid now. So. .. I did the same procedure yesterday. And yes... spaying it does have a effect. The light had been on for 4 days straight. . And nothing worked. Slamming it hard dud nothing. But once I got the wd sprayed in.. viola... it went off and on. So I finished it with the electrical cleaner and it improved 70%.I only had half a can of the electrical cleaner so I didn't hose it down like I wanted to. So this weekend ill hose the death out of it.

Yep, me too. Got the driver's side fixed last year under warranty. Now the passenger's side front is doing it, and the warranty's expired. Figures...

  9. My 2011 Limited did this for the first time on Saturday, and again this morning. I have ~55K miles on it. I'm going to clean the TB and see if that helps. If not, I'll buy another TB and swap it myself. RockAuto.com has it new for ~$193. I found a used one w/90-Day warranty on eBay for ~$79. I may go the cheaper route and try a used one.

  10. Hey folks!

I know this topic has been raised now and then, here & there. I hope to consolidate the interest in one place, in this thread. I am working through people on another site to help make this happen, and will need volunteers/guinea pigs :) for test & fitment.

Please add a post with a list of aftermarket mods you would like to see available for your Edge/MKX, along with the type of vehicle you have. Additional options for the Ecoboost crowd.

    I will get this started:

    2007 Edge SEL - 3.5L AWD

Downpipes with high flow cats (and without for no-testing states)

    Coilovers

Tuner - Contact Torrie at www.fastpartsnetwork.com. He writes custom tunes for Fords using SCT tuners. I bought one for my '04 Sport Trac Adrenalin years ago. He wrote three (87, 89, and 93 performance) custom tunes based on my mods (CAI, high-flow cat, ported/polished TB, and FM exhaust). His customer service is outstanding, and he will update the tunes for you as the need arises for free anytime in the future after initial purchase.

Catback Exhaust System - Both Gibson and Magnaflow already offer catback exhaust systems for the Edge.

Cold Air Intake Kit - K&N offers a K&N CAI for the Edge.

Stabilizer Bar for front/rear (tuned to the vehicle)

Some of these are already available. See my comments in your quoted post above. ^

  11. OK, by now we're all familiar with the driver's front door latch failing, causing the "Door Ajar" warning. Mine failed shortly before the warranty expired and I had it replaced.

Well, this past weekend, I started getting the same symptoms from the passenger front door! :banghead: And of course, it's at ~54K miles, so no warranty. Anyone else had this happen to doors other than the driver's front?

Ford really needs to own up to this problem and fix it!

  12. I was looking at these and seems like the actual cradle is sold seperately? the mount is $66 and then the cheapest cradle for the S4 I saw was $109...Am I missing something here??

Also, how simple is it to slide off that side piece?

You can get one of the universal cradle like this one for $16.99. It mounts right to the KUDA mount.

As for the side trim piece, just pull gently but firmly and it will pop right out.

  13.

Because they're reusing the Fusion interior. And a lot of the exterior (taillamps, grille, etc.). Platform sharing.

Oops. Never mind. I guess staring at my Fusion interior for 16 months wasn't enough for me to remember the vents were horizontal.

The rest is pretty much Fusion though.

That's to be expected, since the Edge and Fusion have always shared the same platform. And we'll probably see a lot more common stuff across these models since under Alan Mullaly's "One Ford" global initiative, many vehicles will share platforms like the Edge/Fusion/Mondeo models.

  14. The vents bother you that much? Did you notice the 2015 Sport has a new 2.7 twin turbo ecoboost engine, and the interior dimensions are larger than the current Edge? I will take the 2015 vents and all the new features any day over my 2013 Edge Sport. I cannot wait to get out my 2013 Sport and get into the 2015 Sport. Early next year cannot get here soon enough.

I never said that they bothered me. I was just commenting that they went back to a design from a previous generation. Seemed like a step back instead of forward. Just an observation. Overall, I'd say they hit it out of the park with this redesign.

  15. I don't think they're supposed to slide with the roof. The right side one on my '11 Edge started doing that recently, but the left side remains intact. There doesn't appear to be any kind of adhesive holding it in place. I think the rubber might just be dry and sticking to the glass. I'm going to coat it well with some 303 Aerospace Protectant and then rub a little baby powder across the surface of the seal that touched the glass to help prevent the rubber from sticking to the glass and getting pulled back with it when the BAMR opens.
