Just checked the 2011 Edge order guide. The base engine (3.5 Ti-VCT) will be rated at 285 hp. Strangely enough, the most powerful Edge, the Sport model with 305 hp, is not available with the towing package.

A few things you can do. Before ordering, avoid options that add weight (AWD, moonroof, bigger wheels). If you live in a hot climite, order a light color. Inflate the tires 5 psi over recommended provided you don't go over the max pressure on the sidewall. Do a complete changeover to synthetic lubricants including engine, power steering, transaxle and rear differential on the AWD models. Take a look at doing a CAI and a chip. The chip manufacturers can do either performance or economy tunes for anywhere from 87 to 93 octane.
