  1. Thanks for the reply. I looked on my android phone and can't find it.

    Hi EspoMan,

You would need to perform a Clean Pairing to bring up the permission prompt on your phone. In the Bluetooth menu on your phone, tap on the gear symbol next to SYNC then select Unpair. Be sure to also remove your phone from SYNC as a previously paired device. Pair your phone back with SYNC, then keep an eye out for any notifications on your phone during the process - specifically, any notifications asking if you would like to allow SYNC to access your messages. Check the "do not ask again" box, then decline this alert. SYNC shouldn't notify you of any text messages anymore.

  2. Brought my Edge in this past Friday, at first the Service Writer said he never seen / heard of this before but when I went to pick it up he said they've seen it before and that the ultimate fix has been replacing the "GPS Module". That said they did some kind of a software / firmware update and wanted to see if it worked as they were not able to see the issue after the update.

Of course it happened to me as soon as I went somewhere that night. I will say that while it goes off course it does seem to come back and find its way back to where I actually am. Obviously this is still completely unacceptable and it will be going back as soon as they get the module.

    Hi funhouse69,

Keep me posted on how your service appointment goes. I can lend a hand if your issue persists. :)

  3. Yes I do have the latest software, that being v3.6.2. What I am interested in is the update 'Cycle' for the SD (navigation) Card. As I indicated, I have SD-A4 Card which was issued in Jan/Feb 2013. Navteq, Ford or whoever supplies the update's must have a update cycle, which includes new streets, highway's and the like. Yearly? Every 2 years??

    Hi Kwmck,

akirby is correct, Navteq typically churns out a new database every 1 1/2 to two years.

  4. I bought this vehicle used for my wife and I am very impressed.

I don't think there have been any updates to the SYNC software so it is still running 1.0, however... from what I have read, that is not much of an issue.

Here's my problem. The ringer defaults to gawd awful SYNC default which will wake the dead! This was not always the case. When I first paired my phone to SYNC, the ringer on my phone was what SYNC used. Somewhere along the line, I got an update for the WP software and it may have been circumstantial or coincidence, but I think it was after that my ringer went to that funky loud ringer. Which is odd since you would have had to select the ringer setting in SYNC and not the phone.

I have tried all three ringer options in SYNC plus the forth option for SYNC to default to my phones ringer. The funky ringer values will work although none are acceptable and the forth doesn't do anything. I even used the ringer off function which produced nothing as in "off".

So using my phones default ringer flat doesn't work when it once did.

I have removed the phone and re-paired it via BT. I have reset the entire system to factory. I have removed ALL BT devices.

I have searched this board and the SYNC board and I haven't seen a post specific to this or I may have missed the post. Any suggestions is appreciated!

    Rick

    Hi Rick,

I'm pretty certain there should be a software update available for your vehicle if it's only running v1.0. If your vehicle is registered at support.ford.com, the update may still be available for download and self-installation. If the website does not display any updates, your dealership would need to assist you with applying the latest version of software.

Which kind of phone do you have? The default-to-phone-ringer setting is a phone-dependent feature and does not work with all mobile devices. There's a chance this may change along with your software version, but it's also possible your phone just doesn't support that functionality..

  5. I have 2012 Edge LTD, Sync Gen2 V3.6.2, (installed Sept 2013 - OK) & Navteq Maps SD Card Level A4 (Received from Navteq &installed Jan 2013-OK). I inquired through MyFord about updates to Navigation, and that took me to Navteq, HELP Maps, and the following;

Thank you for inquiring about HERE Maps. Currently, Ford and Lincoln do utilize our map (Navteq) databases; however, we do not produce or distribute updates for the 2012 Edge at this time. For information, please contact Ford at 866-344-2916 option 1.

Does anyone know of the update process for Navigation that goes beyond the above action?

    Hi Kwmck,

There aren't any map updates available for the MyFord Touch platform at this time. Although Navteq supports the updating process and procedures, I can at least confirm that there is no update to pursue currently. I'm not entirely sure that the availability is based on model, as Navteq's website prompt infers, but I can confirm that if your vehicle is running v3.6.2 software then you have the latest and greatest form of your system.

  6. So has anybody been able to find a fix for this problem. I have a 2012 Edge and ever since I had the latest update done on the sync system, the ambiant lights seem to turn on by themselves even after I go through the settings and turn it off. I know there are lights that come on when you open the door but when the door is shut they should stay off but if my lights turn on all the ambiant lights turn on too. I have taken it to the dealer and they seem stumped. They say that they have not heard of this problem and that updating the sync shouldn't have caused this problem but that is the only thing that has been done that would make any sense. If anyone has come across a solution, I would love to hear it so I could bring it up to the dealer so maybe they can fix this problem.

    Hi thunter11,

Shoot your full name, VIN, mileage, and servicing dealership over via PM. I'll check to see what other options we might have available. :)

    Antonio

  7. 2 weeks gone by since I opened up a case & Ford has NOT gotten back to me, Big surprise!!! So Send to sync doesn't work with IE 11, 10, 9 & the CSR are on IE8 & they have not gotten back with any answers after 2 weeks.

Antonio... what did you find out? or can find out? & not just a mapquest issue since it is a Lincoln $199 service that is not functioning.

    Hi drpepper,

If you PM a ticket number I'd be happy to check for any updates to your case. You're also welcome to call in for a status update at 1-800-392-3673, options #1 then #3.

  8.

Ironically, soon after they upgraded the software, the audio module failed. In shop now getting replaced. So, the screen navigation seems fine, but no voice commands are working and there is no voice feedback, obviously. I guess the only other issue is that it still sometimes does not "see" the USB drive (iPod) connected to it and I have to go into A/V Entertainment section, exit, and then it starts seeing it. Just annoying.

    carsick30,

Please keep me in loop and shoot a PM if anything else comes up!

  9.

Thanks for the replys. Did give the TSB to Service Manager at Dealership. His response was that there are not enough #'s to look it up on their system. Most current updates are installed. The visor is completely retracted and locked in place. The mic on the 2013 faces the drivers side front windshield post at an angle in the head liner. When setting in the drivers seat and you look at the mic, only half of it is visible unless you actually release the visor and swing to the drivers window to get a direct unobstructed view.

Called the Service Manager from the car while driving. He could not understand what I was saying without me actually hollering over the road noise he experienced on his end. He admits there is a problem.... They seem to be at a loss for answers. ...

    Hello tirlty,

PM your full name, mileage, VIN, and servicing dealership. I want to see if there's any other recourse we can take to help you out.

My brand new MKX sounds fine driving in the city but everyone complains that they can't understand what the heck I'm saying when I'm on the highway. I've gotten in the habit of hardwiring my DROID to the auxiliary jack when driving on the highway. Most cell phone microphones are far superior to Fords junk. Kinda defeats the purpose of sync when ya gotta hardwire!

    Hi fishx65,

This might be something we can troubleshoot. PM your VIN and I'll provide some steps to try, based on the version of SYNC installed.

    Antonio

  10. Ok, so I guess this is more of a vent than feedback solicitation, but I just can't help it. 2012 Sport is my 8th car, not counting wife's, its predecessors all having been imports. I just did not have faith in American manufacturing I guess. Finally, seeing the design, performance, and overall improvement strides Ford has taken, I decided to pull the trigger on the Sport. Where are we at after less than 1 year and only 7,500 miles of mild, non-aggressive, short work commute and grocery fetching?

    1. PTU seals fail to cause burning smell all around, and in, the car.

    2. Sync has to go through major dealer-only software update, outside of the standard MyTouch, to avoid total fail.

    3. Audio module fail to cause loss of voice commands, voice prompts, etc.

    4. Re-alignment (no potholes, obstacles hit).

    5. Not a technical issue per se, but a 3.7L V6 claiming 305hp at the crank should feel and take off better than a 4-banger slug. Meanwhile I get smoked by my wife's Subaru Tribeca as if i were standing still.

I mean, what gives? I thought they were past the old stereotype of constant issues and were re-gaining momentum. Not great owner impression for someone who finally decided to give them a shot. Granted, all issues were covered by warranty/dealer, but this is the sort of thing you might expect from a Huyndai, not the backbone of American automanufacturing.

    Thanks for endulging the rant.

    Hi carsick30,

I can offer some troubleshooting assistance with your SYNC concerns. Are you still having performance issues even after your software was updated by the dealer?

    Antonio

  11. My 2011 MKX exhibits the same behaviour where I will set colour to Blue but it changes back to defalt colour after about an week. Issue seemed to start or at least occur more frequently after update to 3.6.2. for MFT.

To mee it seems more MFT software bug then APIM issue.

Antonio, if this is a known issue, can at TSB released for it since if I take it to the dealership, they will most likely be clueless on the issue without a TSB.

    Hi teknowiz,

I can't speak to any TSBs for this specific issue, but each dealership shares the same resources and should be able to provide the right solution based on the symptoms.

My 2012 Edge has the ambient lighting issue. So if there is a data retention error in the APIM, what is the fix? New APIM or new SYNC software? if I go to the dealer with this issue what will they do?

    Hello mrgrouper,

Your Ford-Certified technician can only advise on the actual fixes - this type of information is beyond my authority to give. I imagine the service would most likely entail programming changes made to the APIM, rather than any hardware swaps. However, as I stated previously, this issue is still under investigation. There could be other causes that are creating similar behaviors, which may vary from vehicle to vehicle, so I wouldn't presume to make any blanket-statements.

And i would hope that this would be a FREE reprogramming? I'm just worried that if/when i add the lighting that i will have to jump through hoops to get it fixed.

    Hi SvPir8,

My scope doesn't include warranty-related concerns, but I also wouldn't deem it out of the question to consult with your service adviser before making an appointment. They would be able to give you a better idea of the service fees that might be involved (if any).

  12. Hey everyone I have a 2013 Edge with MFT and just recently I started having some issues with the Navigation System. I start off at my house and have it give me directions and it will be fine for a certain amount of time then it will display "Off Route" and never really find its way back. It will show me well of the highway / road that I am on and it is becoming quite a pain. It has happened each of the last 4 times I have tried to use it.

Interestingly enough I read somewhere that putting different tires on the vehicle can cause this issue. I recently swapped out my factory 20" Tires / Rims for 17" Nokian's recommended by my local Tire Supplier. This really doesn't make a whole lot a sense to me since a GPS is supposed to use Satellites and not depend on the rotation of the tire.

Is there any truth to this as a potential cause? I was told that the 17's I went with are close enough to the factory diameter that I shouldn't have any issues with the Speedo / ODO.

Any information you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi funhouse69,

Have you consulted with your dealership regarding this change? Did it seem like the nav was accurate before the tire-change, or has this behavior been present the whole time? The navigation system does use GPS to track your location, but it also relies on something called "dead reckoning" - which means that if your vehicle loses its GPS connection for any amount of time, it will re-calibrate your current position based on the tire rotation. Your dealer may be able to modify the tire circumference settings in your GPS, but it is limited on the amount of presets that are available. If you want to PM your VIN, I can also check for any Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs) that might have been issues to address this concern.

  13. #6. Thanks for the explanation.. But you did not mention if there is a selection of level of service? Extra feature added after vehicle purchase that drives price sky high- seems to fit perfectly with some type of tiered subscription model upon renewal- ie w/o the operator assist.

I know you are more "tech" but after your explanation & me not seeing anything posted in glossy's, pamphlets, & find the webs sites differ on style & presentation.- It all is confusing-

    drpepper,

I'm not clear on what you mean by "selection of level of service." It sounds like you might be inquiring if there will be any way to modify the services your receive in exchange for a different or lower price. I cannot speculate if this is something that will be offered in the future, but I certainly encourage you to submit your suggestions to the Ford New Idea link I provided in my previous post.

Q:#3. the street name not showing in top right corner of 8” main display when you leave the map section of navigation but does show up with all other changes,

Reply from Antonio-Tech -:I'm not sure what you mean by "all other changes." Do you mean changes to the software or changes to the active route?

Q#3 my reply back--RETYPED after it was deleted in error...

active route is not the issue...The 8" touch screen does NOT perform as intended in a certain instance when it does in all other instances...I shall explain

The street name SHOULD display in the top right line above the Nav quadrant on the main 8" display ( except home screen when it is in the quadrant) ***BUT in instance described below it disappears in ERROR. Seeking comment on when a fix will be done...MFT has been out 3 years+ & is reasonable to ask...

    ...

If you are in the map section of the navigation zone.......you leave navigation & go to radio or leave nav & go to phone- or leav nav & go to Climate-******you will lose the street name display***** in the upper top right line of main 8" MFT display where it should display during normal driving- no route selected.......UNLESS you JUMP two zones- what do I mean by that...I'll explain

IE In order for street name to display properly when leaving the navigation zone you must do a stupid "two hop " process. You want to go to entertainment but if you leave nav to entertainment -- street name goes away. Must go to climate 1st & then radio- magically pops back on display. Or must go to phone 1st & then go to radio. etc. for the disappearing street name to REAPPEAR. Hence a two hop process to FORCE the street name to reappear when it should just appear after you move from map in nav or any other of the 3 options ( phone, entertainment, climate)- home screen as stated before will display in the quadrant normally & not in upper top right line.

Please advise if Ford is aware of issue & if they deem it worthy of fixing since it has not been fixed in the past few updates.

Unfortunately, my team is not integrated with product development... therefore I am unable to lend a preview on any bug fixes or patch notes before the next iteration of software arrives. I can assure you that your feedback has been received, as all of our customer relationship interactions are well documented from both online and offline encounters. I just wish I could offer some sort of insight into how engineering determines its programming objectives, but alas this is knowledge I do not possess.

  14. Welcome Antonio.

Why is the RDS function disabled in MFT/MLT equipped vehicles in Gulf countries (GCC)?

It is working in other cars including other Ford vehicles not equipped with MFT/MLT.

    Hi omar302,

Thanks for the warm welcome! Most "why" questions require product development knowledge, which I have no authority to speak on. Product design, development, and pricing inquiries are unfortunately beyond my scope.

    Antonio

  15. Antonio of the FordIV Team Welcome.

Can you Please comment on following concerns that seem to have been around most of the 3+ years since MFT/MLT has been released...:

    1. Lat/Long direct input in nav- Why was it there & removed, returned & now finally removed again. Is it ever slated to come back? Basic $199 Garmin/Tom Toms have this ability.

    2. The USB counter up to nowhere instead of say backwards to zero or say 1:30 /2:00 min reference

    3. the street name not showing in top right corner of 8” main display when you leave the map section of navigation but does show up with all other changes,

    4. send your contact address to navigation to set as a destination STILL bombs-( supposedly due to a country code) When will this be fixed? Strange that the paid service works but the free one does not! See below

    5. “send to sync” feature of Sync services (paid service) for destination addresses that used to work with Google maps but now only deals with MapQuest – OK-BUT has been failing & not working if you use IE10 ( reg or compatibility), fails on firefox, & even sometimes now fails on google chrome.

    6. the disparity of Sync services renewal fees of $60 for Ford & displayed on Ford web site but $199 for Lincoln & conveniently not displayed- must call to hear the horror, and no tiered pricing just the insane $199 Especially when the same sync services" reports ( news, sports, weather, entertainment, etc.) by the same reporter are available FREE when calling 408-752-8052. Why would Ford incorporate a free service into their Subscription system & then TRY to charge $199 for what is free & in the clear & identical by others?

    Hi drpepper,

My scope primarily involves providing troubleshooting assistance and technical support for the SYNC, MyFord, and MyFord Touch platforms. I hope you'll understand if I'm limited in the amount of answers I am able to provide for your great questions. These limitations exist less for political reasons and more so in that I am not the type to provide information that I do not have any official resources to back up. I cannot speculate on matters involving pricing, product design, or product development. With that said, here are my acknowledgements:

    1. Just like in making a movie, a lot of great scenes end up on the cutting room floor. I imagine that overall stability ranked pretty high on the design objectives for MFT. I don't have any timelines on if this feature might return, but I can say that our development team is very receptive to customer feedback (more on that later).
    2. It is difficult to answer this one without making any presumptions on engineering's design intent. I can't really speculate.
    3. I'm not sure what you mean by "all other changes." Do you mean changes to the software or changes to the active route?
    4. I can only provide personal commentary on this one. It just makes sense that a navigation-equipped vehicle should be able to access the address info of your contacts if it's receiving the information in the first place. I imagine this would be a simple integration, but I'm also saying that out of ignorance as I'm not a programmer. Again, I cannot speculate as to the design intent behind the system's current functioning.
    5. Systems that are built upon systems can be frustrating when there appears to be a lack in performance consistency - this I completely understand. I wish I could provide further context, but to be frank I personally don't have much anecdotal experience on this concern. I've been able to troubleshoot most issues I've handled relating to the Send-to-SYNC feature - which typically involved hiccups with the customer's computer/browser. This isn't to pass the buck, as no system is perfect, but I can only provide commentary based on personal experience.
    6. I can identify the main differences between the Ford and Lincoln SYNC Services packages: the $199 Lincoln subscription includes unlimited Operator Assist sessions, while additional OA sessions with a Ford SYNC Services subscription must be purchased. The pricing reflects this difference in value. SYNC Services was tailored and built to integrate directly through the SYNC platform, allowing for live turn-by-turn directions to be transmitted to and interpreted by SYNC. There are a variety of apps and other free services that offer similar functionality - of which customers are certainly welcome to use - but it is the integration with SYNC and convenient access that drivers are willing to pay for. Again, this is only my commentary based on the opinions of previous owners that I've worked with personally.

There's a website where customers such as yourself are welcome to submit your ideas and product suggestions. You can voice your opinion and gain traction from the Ford social community here: http://social.ford.com/your-ideas/technologies/ The posts with the highest popularity are the most likely to be considered, but either way it's a fun process and interesting to see what customers come up with. You might like it. :)

  16. Hey everyone - looking for an answer online - can't seem to find it. I have a 2010 Edge equipped with Sync (Nav) and I have a "Line In" 3.5mm audio headphone jack and a USB port in the armrest.

When I have a flash drive plugged in to the port and something plugged into the headphone jack at the same time - sync does not allow me to choose "Line In". I can only switch between USB and Bluetooth audio. However - as soon as I unplug the USB key - Line In will appear as an option,....... my question is - Is this normal functionality??

Thanks in advance - I hope this hasn't been covered yet - my apologies if it has

    Hi Wil,

That's a great question. Shoot me your VIN via PM and I'll see what kind of information I can gather for you. I'm wondering if your vehicle is running the most current version of software - perhaps this is a glitch that has been addressed through an update.

  17. I have a 2012 Ford Edge SEL with the stock radio. It has bluetooth audio and Sync capabilities. I have an iPhone 5 now, but it did the same thing with an iPhone 4S.

Here's my issue. In order to make it play something via bluetooth audio, I have to press the Sync button and say "Bluetooth Audio" (there's no button for BT audio). That's a bit of a pain, but here's where the real pain comes in. Let's say I drive to work. I start out and say "bluetooth audio" and it works just fine. But then I stop at Starbucks and when I get back in the Edge, it immediately goes to the radio instead of picking up in bluetooth audio where it left off. So, I have to say "Bluetooth Audio" again (remember, there is no button for BT Audio) and then it picks up where it left off. Same for when I go out for lunch - I have to say "bluetooth audio" again. I usually take one or two side trips during the day and then head home. So, on average, I have to say "bluetooth audio" about 6 times a day to my car.

I've had the Edge for about 20 months now, and I estimate that I've said "Bluetooth Audio" about 3,600 times. (I listen to BT Audio exclusively, because I refuse to pay for inferior satellite radio). I probably would have continued saying "Bluetooth Audio" forever (and cursing it all the time), until recently when I bought my wife a new Toyota with Entune. The Toyota is smart enough to know that when I left the car, I was listening to bluetooth audio, so it just picks up where I left off in bluetooth audio without requiring me to do anything more. Why can't my more expensive Ford Edge do the same thing?

Is there something wrong with my radio, or is there something lacking in the Ford engineering of the radio?

    Thanks in advance,

    Frank

    Hi Frank,

In a prior iteration of software, the system used to work this way: SYNC would automatically pick up where it left off and default to Bluetooth audio, if this was the last media source you listened to. The general opinion was mixed, but the dominant sentiment that engineering had received was that this behavior drained phone batteries quicker than owners would have preferred. Bear in mind, at this time in-vehicle Bluetooth was still gaining traction in the market - engineering probably didn't want customers' first impression of the wireless technology to be poor. These are my interpretations, at least - I don't have any authority to speak on behalf of product development.

Anyway, the result of the feedback we received lead to the current functioning of the system. The Bluetooth audio channel needs to be manually or verbally selected in order to use. For those interested, we have a website set up to gather suggestions: http://social.ford.com/your-ideas/technologies/ Product suggestions can be posted for the social Ford community to rally behind and provide commentary. The ideas with the highest popularity are the most visible and therefore likely to be reviewed by our development team.

  18. Hello all,

I'm Antonio. I'm new to this forum, but I'll be providing tech support for SYNC, MyFord and MyFord Touch. This erratic behavior with the ambient lighting has been documented and recognized by our Tech Hotline - the folks who provide workshop support for the on-site Ford technicians. This is an issue that needs to be investigated by your service garage; there's a data retention error in the Accessory Protocol Interface Module (APIM) that will likely require some reprogramming.

  19. Hi there,

My name is Antonio, I provide troubleshooting assistance for the SYNC, MyFord, and MyFord Touch equipment. I've been with the In-Vehicle Technology team here at Ford Motor Company for more than two years. I've had various responsibilities since I started on the phones, went on to serve as a Senior Business Analyst (fancy title for supervisor), then moved over to our Social Media team where I am currently. Bottom line: I like helping. :)

I'll be lurking these forums each day in search of opportunities to add value. You don't have to post a thread though - If you have any SYNC questions or related concerns, feel free to shoot me a personal message. I will respond in kind as quickly as I can.

    Warm Regards,

    Antonio
