  1. Do you know if it is possible to completely disable this feature? Those tire pressure sensors are crap... and they die one after another - my dealer keeps replacing them for free (so far), but it is so annoying having this "ding-dong" always when I start my car now (not to mention the orange warrning light on the dash).

  2. ...I got an offer to go for ESP to cover my upcoming 7 service appoitments for $ 1,000 (I asked about the deal here). They replaced something in braking system, but the guy was too busy to tell me - brake booster I suppose, because the brake pedal is so much more sensitive now... Not sure if I like it...

    Anyways, first service done. They cleaned the car even under the hood so it looks cleaner then when I got it from Saudi...

    BTW. They didnt want to do anything about RDS until the latest available sync update is installed, but since updates can only be downloaded during business week (Mon-Fri), I have to schedule another appointment to get it done...

  3. Today I will hit the 8000 km mark on the odometer. The below is the list of findings after driving this (great!) car for the past two months:

    Pros:

    - amazingly smooth, comfortable and quiet ride (love it!)

    - great audio system

    - 115 mph governor (otherwise I would be driving this car even faster - you can't feel the speed in it)

    Cons:

    - some noise is already coming from the roof when the roof blind is open

    - windscreen wipers are bad already (!) after 2 months !!!

    - roof seal starts making noises when approaching 150km/h

    - servicing every 8000km (or 5k miles) or every 4 months (this is some sort of joke)

    - $ 130 to open the first service ticket (at Bahrain dealer - because the car was bought in KSA)

    - $ 130+ the first service... (I am paying for the stamp in my warranty card only, I guess...)

    - headlights are crap, seriously... just bad. Maybe when they level it properly it will be better

    - no RDS (the service guy said they can check if it is possible to enable it - I will find out soon)

    More cons than pros, but I really like this car. I didn't even suspect that it would be so nice to drive! First check on Saturday, I wonder how much I will be charged for extra things I don't need (like cleaning, topping up the washer fluid).

    Comparison - Golf GTI 2013 (I know, different idea, but I was actually considering getting it in the first place) - first service after 30 000 (18k miles) is free... second one, after 60k - less than $100...

  4. Don't recall that problem. It sounds like you have a bad APIM. Does it start with the vehicle, then disappear or does it just never come on at all?

    APIM? hmm... It just does not start with the vehicle (the screen remains black). Stop/Start brings it back - I am running keyless, so I actually need to perform full stop in order to shutdown the ignition. And it happens once a week... rarely enough so I cannot show it at service, but I will mention it during the upcoming servicing appointment.
  5. How often does it happen to you that you take off and just when you enter the HWY, you realize the screen in the console is off... ?

    Is there any way to turn it back ON while driving if this happens? The only way I know is to pull over and stop/start the car, which is not always possible if you have just jumped on a highway...

    And of course it is impossible to repro at dealer... Any ideas how to deal with it?

  6. I am probably going to be the only one making fuel consumption stats in a country, where 1 liter costs $ 0.16, but I do it anyways ;)

    3.7 AWD:

    12/16/2013 4 169 12.72 -> 22 MPG

    12/15/2013 3 687 15.61 -> 18 MPG

    12/12/2013 3 324 12.56 -> 22 MPG

    12/11/2013 2 841 11.9 -> 24 MPG

    12/9/2013 2 337 12.5 -> 23 MPG

    12/8/2013 1 873 13.12 -> 22 MPG

    12/7/2013 1 530 15.99 -> 18 MPG

    11/26/2013 1 161 13.27 -> 21 MPG

    11/23/2013 709 13.7 -> 21 MPG

    values provided in km and l/100km -> translated into MPG. I usually cruise at 75 mph, but for every tank I spend at least 1 hour idling at the border crossing, so I believe those numbers could be even better.

    Now the funny part - my stat app is saying that I have made so far 4168 km (2589 miles) and burned 115 USD worth of fuel (634 liters = 167 gallons). Welcome to Saudi Arabia...
