If only I didn't have the Sony system...

looks suprisingly similar. I wonder if it would fit instead of my OEM system and how much of the functionality would remain (e.g. rear view cam, ambient light color change, etc...)

  2. After my last adventure with the vista sunroof, that - as turned out - is not covered by warranty in 2years old car, nothing could surprise me. How wrong I was...

This little tiny button lives its own life. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. I never realized it until this winter - living in the Middle East does not really force me to use it too often - AC usually stays on at all times. Yet it failed recently. Just like that - I though my hand was too sweaty or something, but all other buttons worked just fine...

I can still use the LCD to navigate through climate settings and turn the aircon on and off. But the "physical" button does not work anymore.

During my last week's 80k inspection I was charged extra $53 (20BHD) to perform A/C inspection that would confirm what I have reported - that the button has given up. Further investigation revealed that the whole entertainment system has to be replaced to fix the issue (I have the Sony system).

I am amazed they didn't offer me a brand new car as a replacement for the button!!!!!!!

And I have heard some more ridiculous news from other car dealers, but they were never delivered in such plain, open and honest way... Does Ford they really have customers who are willing to pay for the crap they offer in service? Or is it just my service adviser who didn't have a training in sales and dealing with basic human emotions? Any good sales would turn such case in an opportunity to sell me something more, while these guys just gave me a price like as if they were saying "f...off - we won't fix it and there is nothing you can do about it".

  3. wow... that's officially now one of the longest threads on this forum ;-)

For people who don't use siri or are not able to get XM radio - is there any real value in getting v3.8 ? I downloaded it last night after registering on Ford website... But now getting through the thread I am wondering is it worth the risk? If I screw anything up, the dealer will ask another $ 2000 to fix it...

Is there *anything new* in 3.8 to justify the risk of upgrading it?

  4. I have just installed LED bulbs on my 2013. I ordered the full set from http://drivebright.com/home/shop/font-rear-led-bulb-pack-headlight-tail-light-turn-signal-and-reverse-lamps/

The tricky part is to get the tail light assembly removed... It looks so easy on Dan's movie. I used gopro suction cup to get some leverage and to avoid sticking any tools between the chassis and the tail light assembly:

    edge-led1.jpg

    edge-led2.jpg

The package contains 4 resistors. Surprisingly after replacing rear ones I noticed there is no need to apply resistors there... It just works. Plug and play. No "hyperflashing".

    edge-led3.jpg

The fun part begins with the front. It takes a while to get the wiring done and connect resistors (my package contained wrong wiring diagrams - for puddle light, so I was on my own here, but the installation is super easy).

Overall around 2 hours effort with minimal set of tools required.

  5. http://www.motostat.eu/vehicle-stats/62376up to date stats of my 2013 Sport.

    This vehicle have driven 74 773 km and consumed 10 635 l

2 years, 75kkm (46k miles) and average of 14.15l/100 km which translates into 16mpg... At super boring Saudi highway at 120km/h it easily gets down to 12L (19mpg), but I am always stuck in 2 hours traffic at border crossing, so never really got to have a nice highway-only mpg results...

  6. I was wondering - how is it with your dealers? The dealer in Bahrain (tiny country in the Gulf), just refused to fix my broken roof... I opened it and it did not close anymore. They showed me some diagrams and that the tiny plastic part of the rail needs to be changed, but it costs USD 2500 to replace the whole roof assembly with curtains and stuff... Eventually they closed the roof using some extra force. I got back home... now studying extended warranty details - no word about roof.

    ...seriously, Ford? 2013 Owner, 72 000 km... Happy ever since... extended warranty ends in 2018, at 80 000 / 120 000 km...

  7. 3k and still super quiet and smooth... I wonder how soon will they wear off give the conditions I treat them (Middle East), but I will not consider Michelins for future upgrades for sure (at 66kkm I ended up with super loud set of OEM Michelins with 6mm of thread that I had to trash)

  8. 265/40/22 P's are 34lbs.

I dont remember where I got that value... I read it somewhere here (talking about the rim + tire weight)

Regardles... my wife even noticed the difference (!)

    - "what did you with that engine noise...?"

  9. so I didnt go with different wheels. Since pirellis have poor price/performance ration, I decided to go with General G-MAX AS-03 tires:

    edgar1.jpg

    edgar2.jpg

super happy from the first minute... weird moaming noise is gone, these tires are SUPER quiet and give a new meaning to the word comfort... + it is a good deal if compared to pirellis.

  10. so... my remote started worked ever since I visited dealership... magic.

I paid for break disk skimming and new set of rear pads (front is still good at 65kkm), bleeding, new brake fluid... I came back home $250 lighter.... Brake booster - diagnosed as OK.

No changes in braking behavior... stiff pedal, crappy braking...

...Two weeks and 500km later - break pedal started making "pssss..." noise... they replaced brake booster for free... (warranty invoice $190).

    Now I'm happy again...

It looks it is the second time my booster is replaced (my car participated in the brake booster recall in 2014...)

  11. My car (2013 sport, 65kkm) was parked outside my house for 3 weeks in 45+ degC weather, while I was enjoying Washington State cool summer time ;) After coming back I tried to remote start and it didnt...(bummer) I thought the battery died, but when I approached the car, I disarmed the alarm, got in and started as if nothing happened.

One weird thing I also noticed is that breaks feel weird (the pedal is very tough and breaking isnt as precise and sharp as it used to). I guess 3 weeks in such weather the brakes require a check (bleeding, lecvel seems OK).

But what's with the remote start? ;)

Stealership will be glad to service me somewhere within next 2 weeks, so I am looking to troubleshoot a bit myself...

  12. Has anyone tried replacing OEM 22s with anything lighter (but to make sure Edgy does not loose its sporty look) ?

I am considering 21" or 20", since I need to replace tires anyways and there is nothing serious other than OEM (michelin scorpion?) available in this riddiculous rim size... And everything is ALL SEASON, meaning that it will not last more than one season (in the Middle East) without becoming noisy and having lots of small cracks...

Second thing is that I read somewhere on this forum that these 22s are over 70lbs (?!) each - another thing to take into consideration when looking for some performance gain ;)

    Any ideas?

My short research gave me the following:

265/40 R22 means I am looking for a wheel with 770.8mm in diameter...

    Alternatives:

295/45 R20 - 773.5mm (is the OEM size for JEEP Grand Cheerokie SRT - but the choice here is even worse than for my Edgy looking at tirerack.com)

275/45 R20 - 775mm (-2%) is the OEM size for Cayenne and this (again - based on tirerack) is an entire new level of choice (40 types available including Summer tires - not ALL SEASON like my OEM set)

    Anybody tried digging more?

have you seen Edge Sport running on 20" ?

(OEM 20" for new sport look yummy)

  13. Looks good how does it sound?

It sounds really good. I thought I would need to upgrade front speakers, but so far the OE Sony systems is up for the task... It took me a while to tune it the way I like, but finally I can say "IT SOUNDS THE WAY I WANTED IT TO!" ;-)

    What size sub is that?

This is JLAudio 10W3v3-2 in a sealed enclosure (after Stealthbox website) - looks like they dont offer Edge stealthbox anymore (I got mine from reseller @ ebay)
  14. I installed my stealthbox long time ago, but I have recently ordered miles of this sound deadner GT mat... and decided to fix my whole back with it.

So here's how stealtbox fits in 2013 Edge Sport:

    1. the oem sub goes out, this sony amp needs to stay, cause it powers remaining speakers... I used sub hi-output to feed my JL audio AMP (JX 250/1 - I find it a perfect match for the stealthbox)

    2. I stripped out everything to the bare metal. Removing the side panel is really irritating + you have to be really careful not to get dirty with that sticky white glue applied all over seals... damn you Ford!!!!!

    stealth1.jpg

    3. started from applying the GTMat from the bottom of the window heading down slowly covering all holes. I kept wires outside although a lot of folks like to cover them as well.

    stealth2.jpg

So far I only did the trunk - next week I'll try to approach front doors:

    stealth3.jpg

I also re-used one of metal brackets holds the OEM amp to attach it to the metal - I know it could have been more "pro", but I was in a hurry to finish before the sandstorm starts for good...

    stealth4.jpg

And final result is as follows:

    stealth5.jpg

    What do you guys think?

  15. I started regularly rotating my wheels ... the noise problem is kinda solved - at least the most irritating humming is gone now. But every 10k km I cycle all wheels clockwise. I did it twice so far and I am happy with this so far, but my tires will need a replacement soon...

  16. I haven't done it yet... but my Edgy is not even 2 years old... I believe it should last till end of the summer before I replace it (or at least the lamp film because they are getting darker and darker every day...)

pic from today right after cleaning - note how "blurry" the film is.

DLRs do look brand new now :)

    edgu.jpg

BTW. today first time this year the temp reached 35 deg C (95F) - it's going to be a hot summer...

  17. you'll be happy :) these DLRs are really cool - I honestly cant wait to see the mirror image of my car whenever I park in front of some shiny wall or a store window ;) it may sound stupid, but the car looks insane with these on in the daylight (not to mention at night)

btw. keep headlamp upgrade next in your todo list... the difference is trully remarkable as you probably noticed that OEM lights are really bad...

  18. no more than 8 months later my DLR looked like sh!t due to middle eastern weather conditions... basically these lights were the only part of the front of my car that didnt get plastic-wrapped - so two sandstorms and 30k miles later they were totally sandblasted...

so my I removed 'em and dropped by nearby ziebart workshop to see if these guys can do anything about it. And the result (although expensive) is here:

    ziebart.jpg

polished, protected and ready to install (again). This time wrapped in 1mm thick plastic to ensure they last more than one sandstorm ;)

  19. i rotated wheels, fixed pressure (from 45-42 down to 35 - weird) and it seems better now (at least I do not hear this cyclic moaming anymore). So point for everyone saying it was the rubber, not bearing...
