I will say the Struts and Strut bearing mounts are due for replacement. Why you running High mileage oil? I have always ran normal oil and still do with 240K miles on the engine and no problems.
-
If it has not failed yet then most likely it will. The OSS sensor is most likely failing.
-
700-800 dollar repair at ford dealers.
-
Clicking was not CV shafts just an unseated bearing. A little more torque and noise is gone.
-
Strut bearing mount is bad. Time for new struts and mounts.
-
Problem solved. Not the axle, but the new wheel bearing had slightly worked loose after installation and was retorqued. Ping is gone. Good news is the CV shafts were given a good bill of health. Ready to hit the 300k mark.

238,000 miles and now I am getting a metalic ping soud out of the drivers side front axle area. Sound comes when placing in gear and under acceleratoin and deceleration if I play with the gas peddle. No real clicking sound when turning. I am thinking it is the cv joint closest to the transmission. Anyone else care to guess?

Just let me or fifthranger know where the keys are and we can take turns with it for ya!!! LOL
You guys make me feel like I am neglecting my Edge! I'm still struggling to breach the 8,000 mile mark on mine after nearly two years of ownership.
Someone could probably steal the thing out of our garage and it could take me a week or more to realize it! -
Still kicking it down the road at 236,000 miles. Mostly highway.

fifthranger with 236,000 miles so far the engine and tranny are sound. Suspension components will be needing replacement for you soon. I though am still running the same serpetine belt, but will be scheduling that for a change in the future. My left front CV/Shaft is now clicking and will monitor this as i put more miles on it..
-
236,000 miles. Left front drive shaft is starting to make clicking sound. Will have to monitor this to see how it goes. Most likely will change both CV joints/shafts when the time comes. Left side has been moist since I owned it, but not leaking.

Just installed a new set of Bridgestone H/L Dueller, Alenza, Ecopias on my Edge. Very quiet tire and smooth. I had regular ecopias prior to this set and they ran over 70 k and still had some tread left, but I chose to ditch them and put on the snow tires for the winter. Blizzacks are in storage now after three seasons and the new tires for the remaining year.

235,000 engine light came on. I suspected an O2 sensor and took my Edge to the repair shop. Further checks revealed the O2 Upper sensor was bad. I was also told that the plugs may need replacement as this could also cause the sesor to go bad. He took out the plug and brought them to me. The wire ends were completely gone with just the base metal in the plugs left. Total miles on the iridium plugs was 150,000 miles. So I guess the 100,000 change time frame is most likely a good time to replace the plugs. Now it is time to see if the gas mileage will be improved along with a little more power.

Just curious has anyone ever put over 21.5 gallons of gas in their ford edge. I have done it and could swear the tank limits by ford said 19 gallons or something like that.
-
I would replace the entire thing, strut and the bearing mount. If it is the right front check the ball joint also.
-
Here is my 300,000 mile picture, sitting at 300,500 right now. I will have to wash the edge and take an updated picture soon.
I am about a year behind ya buddy. 230,000 now and should hit it about this time next year.

26 Feb 2014, I had the last Hub assembly and wheel bearing replaced. The drivers side front and the passengers side rear. Both were the original bearing or hub and had 230,000 miles on them. This means all the bearings and hubs have now been replaced. Bonus....I can hear the radio.

What do you need to change or replace on a 2008 Ford Edge with 230,000 miles. I have replaced a total of three wheel bearings with the right front requiring two. (more on that later). I have just finished replacing on both right and left front the following parts. The strut bearing mounts (right front was completely worn) making thumping sounds. The struts (both were completly worn and when pushed down did not extend) I recommend changing the struts and Mounts at 100k as it would be a much better ride.
I also changed out the lower control arms/ball joints ( note these are press on and all one unit) The rubber sleeves in both control arms appeared in great shape, but the ball joints were loose with the right front ball joint being very worn and moving)
The tie rod ends (outer) were both easily moved to the point that replacement was a better soulution.
The Sway bar links had to be replaced just due to the fact that the bolts were so rusted that cutting them off was the only option, so plan on this.
The right front wheel bearing was repalced a second time due the the strut and ball joint being so bad that the pressures on the bearing caused it to fail prematurely.
The rear shock were changed when tire wear indicated that the shocks were worn, tire wear went away when this was done (look for cuping or inside abnormal wear on the inside tread.
Test drive and my Ford Edge is now feeling like it did when I first bought it. Suspension always makes a difference.

I have replaceed wheel bearings (two on the right side and one on the left rear) The noise you describe is a wheel bearing. I would replace it. I am also now starting to hear noise on the right rear and will most likely be replacing that wheel bearing soon. My left front wheel bearing would be the only one that is original then at this point. I may also replace it just because it has 230,000 miles on the bearing and it most likely will be needing replacement soon.

End of month Mileage report: 227,000 miles. Lets see what the year brings. Had to replace the Right front replacement wheel bearing after only 70k miles, It was under warranty but unfortunately the labor was not. $162.00
-
With 227,000 on my 08 almost 98 percent highway I would say it is a good deal and I bet he has plenty of brake pad left also. If he had to replace the brakes then it was not all highway as I got 147K on the fronts and 198K on the rears with highway driving. Check that out to make sure and that would prove the truth about the type of driving.

I use Blizzaks on all four wheels and usually the tire store you purchase them from will discount the remounting and mounting (less than 90 dollars) The traction you get from dedicated snow tires makes a world of difference in the snow. I tried just two front snow tires and rear end was everywhere. I usally get two seasons out of a set of snow tires, if you drive less miles than my 60k a year they should last you even longer. Don't install them until temp below 50 on road surface on average and take them off once you feel the potential for snow is over.

I have been replacing my front end suspension parts with MOOG replacement parts, I have found the MOOG to be great quality and are exactly the same as the OEM (Motorcraft) parts. The MOOG parts appear to be powder coated not dipped in paint. The cost was also less. The outer Tie rods were heavy quality and exact replacement. The MOOG parts also come with grease fittings which the motorcraft do not. The swaybar links were also of similar quality and appeared to be well constructed. Be carefull of some other brands as they are definately sub par and I sent them back and went with the MOOG. The best prices seemed to be between Oreillys Auto Parts and Summit Racing online.

After driving my 08 Edge over 220K miles I have never hit 23 miles per gallon usually around 21 and maybe 22mpg. I would say it is normal. Unfortunately the Manufacturers live in a different world when it comes to actual gas mileage. One day maybe they will all be honest about it. More Political than anything else.
What to expect at 200,000+ miles

240,500 miles power steering was whinning and discovered the tank was empty. Have seen spots on the concrete now I know what it is. Time for a new powersteering pump or something. Not sure what part is actually leaking.
