  1. I had a question, having the same problem. Did you unplug the bad control valve, and have heat working? Or did you install the new one with the wrong pigtail, and leave that one unplugged? In trying to troubleshoot, I unplugged my bad one, and maybe got a slight bump in warmth... but not much. Trying to determine whether I can actually troubleshoot whether it is the HCV simply by unplugging it?

If they had a permanent fix for the problem, I'd agree with the sentiment that we should replace and await reimbursement if a recall were to happen... problem is that it is not an inexpensive repair, and there has been little or no improvement in the latch design AFAIK. They last a year or two before relapsing into a repeat of the problem.. Spending hundreds of dollars per failed door sensor each year isn't a sustainable approach. With the new approach to government regulation right now, I have serious doubts as to whether there will ever be a recall. Anyone who is mechanically inclined may want to consider the permanent DIY fixes.
  4. Okay, after a day of reading about it, I see your point, they will probably do this under an "extended service campaign" or whatever Ford calls it. I remember having one for my Focus. I know they won't be permitted to, but I kind of wish they were allowed to just add a $1 physical button switch near the door striker to sense open or closed.
  5. You may be right, but the condition of the door latch load strength may be changing as well when the doors wont stay locked. That'd invalidate the door testing done to comply with FMVSS, which would have been done with the doors locked (I don't know this for a fact, I just believe it to be the case). Five years ago, this would not have resulted in a recall. It might result in a recall now, since NHTSA is closely scrutinizing all of Ford's miscellaneous latch issues (NHTSA issued another Ford latch recall just this morning).

Sorry to start a new thread about this, but as forum user PaulSchott posted Monday, the NHTSA is investigating complaints over the door ajar issue that is common on certain years of the Ford Edge. If you have ever had this issue, and have not made the time to file a complaint with the NHTSA, now is the time to do so. They need your VIN, but nothing else about it is complicated, give them as much or as little detail as you want. You may not feel that it is a safety complaint, but it is difficult to know whether the door latch system is compromised entirely or a sensor is just dirty, so this matters. Here is the link to file your complaint: https://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/VehicleComplaint/ I have been dealing with this door latch sensor issue for the duration of my ownership on my Ford Edge. I don't see how it is possible that our vehicles meet NHTSA standard Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No. 206, Door locks and door retention components. The testing for that standard would have been done in a laboratory, and it is apparent that contaminants out in the field are making their way into the door lock assembly and compromising the sensor - it is not a stretch to consider the latch itself may be deteriorating as well. Ford should either have to replace the latch system with one that has a lower failure rate, or do sufficient testing on malfunctioning vehicles from the field that prove the latch strength is still within FMVSS standards. Although it's a minor inconvenience compared to the issue of interior lights coming on while driving at nighttime from the unpredictable sensor, I just had a battery fail from the sensor. While parked, even for hours and days on end untouched, the car will sense the door is opened and closed, and the parking/convenience lighting will come on and go back off again. I am out of warranty, not in a position where I am spending $400 for a fix that will only last months.
  7. To affirm what the others are saying, I only use 87 octane in my Edge 2.0 EB. The 93 octane will net about 3 extra horsepower (not sure on torque), I really believe the only difference you'll feel is placebo effect. The torque in the naturally aspirated 3.5 V-6 is less. It has plenty of power, and I am getting good enough mileage that I cannot believe going up to 93 octane would have a measurable difference. The only drawback I can see is if you want to use it to pull something, as the tow rating on the EB is far less than that of either the 3.5 or 3.7 V-6. Well, that and the extra cost up front for the Ecoboost.
  8. Update to my earlier mileage results: The elevation according to Google maps was working slightly against me when I got 36 mpg. I did the same trip both ways last weekend, but was a bit fatigued, and didn't want to set the cruise control on either the trip there or back (I wanted to keep my full attention on driving). I averaged 31-32 mpg without cruise. Other factors are in of course, play, wind, traffic, etc. but the car is capable of some excellent mileage in the right conditions, and cruise control does seem to help, even when I use it on my daily commute. (The route I was recording was from Standish, MI to Alpena, MI along Lake Huron, and is only about 90 miles, a shorter distance and sample size than I thought)
  9. The 120 miles or so I was able to get the 36 mpg on cruise actually has fair amount of hills, much more than my normal drive. What I did not consider - maybe I started at a higher elevation than I ended my MPG test, and I only achieved this mileage because the net result was that I was driving downhill. I will be driving this trip again in the next week, I will try the cruise in the opposite direction, see if the results are drastically different?
  10. I have found that if I am using the cruise control, even in the city, I get considerably better MPG on the dash instrumentation. Whether it is the computer just thinking I am getting better mileage or I actually am, not sure. I took the Edge on a road trip, about 250 miles with the first half being 55 MPH two lane highway. I used cruise control the entire time, in that half of the trip, the computer said I got 36 mpg (though I have found I am getting about 2-3 less MPG than the trip computer calculates). With the perfect conditions, it is possible to get exceptional MPG. However, I get about 24-27 MPG on the dash gage in my normal work commute, no cruise control...meh
  11. I was in the dealer this week for a few common problems with the Edge (mine being a 2013 SE) before the warranty expires - I am already at 35k+ miles. Anyhow, one of my issues is inconsistency with the keyfobs. The service manager asked whether I have anything plugged into the 12v socket, and that they think this is possibly one of the sources of interference? It isn't the case for me, but just thought I would mention for anyone having this problem.
  12. My car is stock height, and an off-lease vehicle. Because the weather has been awful (Michigan) in the month and a half we have owned it...I haven't actually looked at the suspension. It is supposed to warm up later this week, hopefully I could take some pictures then, just to make sure nothing is out of place. Where do they put the suspension pucks? In between the springs?   13. I have the 18" wheels. I have considered looking at whether I could get smaller wheels, taller tires once my current set is ready for replacement, I know that should help. Current tires aren't over-inflated. I actually like the feel, but my wife, not so much... it is a tighter, sportier suspension than our old Focus (and overall, of course, it rides much better). Because of the difference in part numbers between the Ecoboost and the other models, I assumed something must be different. The weight of the engine, as akirby mentioned probably plays the biggest role. I may take a new 3.5L Edge out for a test drive to see if there is really any appreciable difference...maybe I should just get my wife a seat cushion
  14. I have noticed the ride in my 2013 Ecoboost Edge is very, very firm. I started to look at the front suspension components to see if there were any differences between the Ecoboost and the other models...turns out the struts and springs are different part numbers. The springs are firmer, not sure if the struts are different (they have a different prefix number, BT4Z vs CT4Z). All accompanying hardware in the suspension (around the struts at least) is the same, though. My thought is that they did this to get the best MPG possible? Does anyone happen to have knowledge of the struts on these? I am wondering if I can swap the springs out with the 3.5L/3.7L model, leave the same struts.
  15. Hello, I just bought a used 2013 Edge Ecoboost, and had a question about the transmission/driving conditions. I notice that when I let off the accelerator at 30mph or more, the car tends to decelerate rapidly compared to my old car. I didn't know if there might be something related to the transmission dragging or shift-braking on me, and whether this is a typical condition? My wife notices it too, and she actually mentioned it to me before I said anything, even though I had noticed it as well. The reason I am posting here is because I thought the Ecoboost 6 speed might not be the same as the 6-speed SelectShift that goes into the other Edge models. We came from a much lighter car, a 2009 Focus, so we just might not be used to the extra heft that goes with the Edge. FWIW, I seem to be getting a steady 27-29 mpg so far, so it may just be a difference between cars. I would just take it in to the dealer for service evaluation, but I don't want to overreact either, if this is how it normally feels. I considered going up and taking a new one for a test drive just to compare. Has anyone else experienced this when first driving the Edge? TIA EDIT: Okay, I made a mistake.
