  1. I have talked to Ford directly. Their stand is that the vehicle has gone beyond the warranty period. I guess it's "engineered to fail". The Ford Customer Service that made the statement "it's a result of the environment that you live in" will probably regret using those I really don't live in a harsh environment. I live in Southwestern Ontario where we get minimal snow and the car is kept in a garage every night. I was being fecetious. This is a huge safety issue IMHO but Ford doesn't care. I have been told to fiberglass the area and dump the car. That doesn't address the safety issue. I paid the price and fixed it by replacing with genuine Ford parts at my expense. At this point in time, I just want owners to be aware, check their tanks and take the necessary steps to avoid this potentially dangerous situation. Once the tank leaks your choices are limited. I never buy extended warranties (only time I wish I had). I trust that people, businesses and manufacturers will do the right thing. Sometimes they disappoint us.
  2. I began smelling gas fumes around my 2010 Edge Limited and took it to my dealer. He found the leak around the filler where you can see the mass of corrosion. As you can see from the other two pictures, the tank is in good shape with the exception of this 4 inch area around the tank, After paying $2700 for the repair, Ford claims the vehicle is out of warranty and the fault is a result of our environment. My new tank comes with a one year warranty or 20,000 kilometres. Since Ford admittedly does not make the Ford Edge for our Canadian environment, a Toyota may be in my near future. My (small ) Ford dealer has replaced three other gas tanks on the 2010 model year, none of them covered with any warranty or assistance. I might suggest that anyone reading this have theirs checked out and if you see an issue, try to stop the corrosion before you have a leak. It almost makes me cry..........we love this vehicle otherwise. I drove 10 hours home from a ski trip only stopping for gas and felt as fresh as a daisy when I got home. A very comfortable and fun vehicle to drive. If I did that same trip in my King Ranch, I would be crawling on my knees to the house.
  3. After encountering my first problem with my Edge I stumbled across this site. My gas tank developed a leak and I am interested if others have had this problem. I know the 07 and 08 models had some issues with their tanks. I had the tank replaced by a local to me Ford dealer at a cost of $2705.00 and after some discussion with Ford customer service, I was told that the warranty has expired on the vehicle and the gas tank failure is a result of the salt and slop on our roads and Ford is not responsible in any way. I know the warranty period has passed and I understand they can wash their hands of this, but.....a gas tank should last more than 4 years. I took the old tank home so I could examine the failure and possibly make a roadside sign or mailbox out of it. What I discovered was the rusted area is 4 inches of metal around the filler and vent connections that are welded into the tank. The rest of the tank looks like it is a week old. I am certainly no expert but it is my opinion that this is a manufacturer's deficiency. Was the metal over heated when the fittings were welded in? Was the metal not prepped properly after welding and before installation in the vehicle? Will my new gas tank fail in another 4 years? Has anyone else experienced gas tank failure on the 2010? Since Ford admittedly cannot produce a vehicle built for Ontario roads, I think I should be looking to a different make.
  4. Sad but true! I have a 2010 Ford Edge. I had the gas tank replaced today...$2705 installed. The old tank was rusted and leaking around the fill connections on the tank. Ford customer service claims it's an environmental issue because we use salt on our icy roads! I suggested that they might want to pull the Edge from all dealers except for Arizona and Alberta. I love this car. It is a great car to drive or ride along. Very comfortable and stylish, but I can't afford to put a new gas tank on every 3 or 4 years and I am not ready to move to AZ. I also have a 2011 F-250 King Ranch. With Ford being unable to produce vehicles for this harsh climate we have in Southwestern Ontario..... I guess this will end my 30 year love affair with the blue oval.
