  1. I have a 2008 Edge Limited. I have always thought the heater was barely adequate, but just figured I'd have to live with it. Then the campaign letter arrived a couple of weeks ago and I thought "That's it!". When the temps in my area get down below 20 degrees (F), it takes forever to get the cabin warm and the air coming out of the vents is only luke warm, NEVER HOT. Turning up the fan or setting it to 90, actually makes it worse: the air seems to get cooler. I brought it into the dealer with the letter last week. To make a long story short, the claimed they performed the recommended tests and determined the problem wasn't the heater core, it was the thermostat. Since it wasn't the heater core, I had to pay $89.00 labor for the diagnosis and then another $149.00 the next day parts/labor to replace the thermostat. The heater performance is no better. It was 4 degrees outside this morning and it took 45 minutes to feel any warmth in the cabin at all with the fan cranking at full speed the whole trip. I had the control set to 75 and there is no way it was that warm in there. It felt like MAYBE 60 degrees. Switching to "recirc" made things better, but as soon as I switch it back the air temp from the vents drops again. I'm not happy and will be talking to them tomorrow about the next step(s) and getting my money back for the repairs they did that didn't fix the problem.
  2. Follow up: Issue resolved by dealer. He explained the mechanism was "out of synch". Re-set sunroof "control" and lubed tracks. No explanation as to why or how this happens.
  3. The sunshade on my 08 Edge has started acting up. Closing the shade now requires me to hold the button until it is completely closed. Same thing for opening it, except it constantly stops and starts while it opens until it finally opens all the way. Also, if you hit the button to open the glass, the sunshade no longer opens first. (doesn't open at all) Has anyone else had this problem or can check a service manual for pointers as to what is wrong? I'm trying to see what the fix is before taking it to the dealer. I'm figuring it's some control module that's gone south, but the entire workings seem so complicated, who knows? I had it in last week for the to re-flash the transmission. Can't figure how that would be related but thought I'd throw it out there too. Thank you!
  4. If your Edge has the auto climate control system and it is set to "auto", it will automatically select "recirc" mode on it's own if it decides the conditions warrant it. (i.e.: the car interior and outside air is hot enough.) On my Edge, this is almost every time it has been sitting out in the sun. After 5-10 minutes you can hear it switch to outside air: the blower noise drops considerably and the air volume drops slightly as well. Sometimes I will select re-circ again after it changes over to outside air if I want it to cool down to the set temp faster.
  5. My '08 Edge Limited has a cabin air filter. I believe it's only available/standard with the dual-zone automatic climate control.
  6. I just did the second oil change on my '08 Edge (7,500) and noted a minor oil drip/leak at the bottom of the engine casting that was not there at the 3,000 mi oil change. Most of the oil is accumlated on a small soft black plastic panel that is attached to the side of the engine casting with small plastic pins. (It's easy to see just ahead of the oil pan). The oil seems to coming from above somewhere as there was a small drip showing on another part just above this. It's not coming the oil pan, drain plug or the oft mentioned PTO seal... those are all dry except for some blow-back on the pan and bottom engine mount. It's also not from any oil spillage as a result of adding oil. Just thought I would throw it out there to see if anyone else is seeing this? Also wanted to give a head's up so you can keep an eye out. I'll have it looked at by the dealer but I'm trying to find the source.
  7. Although I can't recall the make/model, I remember one of the major car manufacturers was having this problem a couple of years ago. The fix was a modficiation to the climate control sytem to run the blower for a few minutes after the vehicle was shut down to dry out the evaporator. New vehicles were built with this modification and older ones could be retrofitted to include it. After a short delay (after shut down) the blower would come on, run for 4-5 minutes to dry the evap core, and then turn off again.
  8. I have an 08 Edge. I changed the oil at 3,000 miles using Motorcraft 5w20 and a Motorcraft filter. Changes from now on will probably be at 5,000 mile intervals. FWIW I put 300,000 miles on a Volvo 240. I changed every 3-5,000 miles and used Castrol GTX 10w30 and Wix oil filters. I never used any additional additives in the oil. The engine used no oil between changes and ran great until the day I retired it.
  9. Once again, thanks to all for the quick replies. I'll check it again and report back my findings. I think that the issue may be not waiting long enough for the lights to come on after turning on the wipers. As for the speed-sensitive wiper feature: When I think about it, it did seem like there -may- have been a slight increase in the wiper speed, but you are right: hardly noticeable. I'll pay closer attention, but to be honest it's probably not something I'd bug the dealer about. I am thinking about asking them to activate the DRL's on my car though. I do like that feature. Maybe someone knows the answer to this question: When they are activated on an Edge, are the headlights on at a reduced intensity, or are they just the full-bightness low-beams? It may not make a huge difference in getting someone's attention, but it can't hurt.
  10. Can anyone confirm this actually works on their Edge? I have a 2008 and it's not working (yet). I activate the wipers with the headlight switch set to auto or off and the headlights do not come on. This is true whether it's during the day or night and whether it's in Drive, Park or reverse. The manual also talks about the speed-sensitive wipers: when they are on, the speed increases with vehicle speed. I don't see this on my Edge. They stay the same no matter how fast I drive and whether the selector is set to intermittant, low or high. Thanks in advance!
  11. ================================================================= Thank you for the reply. I appreciate it. I just hold the brake with my left foot to compensate. Seeing it listed on the NHTSA site is interesting as I assumed it takes a certain number of reports to exceed the threshold point where it actually shows up on the site. How does the lower stall speed affect (i.e.: improve) the fuel economy? Does the economy improve while idling, cruising or coasting (or always)? I can see where it may help while at idle, (less load on tranny and engine) but does it help at other speeds as well?
  12. Rolling back on hills: I see that this is now an item listed on the NHTSA web site for the Edge. Can anyone (maybe from Ford) explain why they do this? I didn't really want to put this in the "3 things I hate" string. It doesn't make me hate the vehicle, but it's hard to get used to. Except for VERY steep inclines, I have never had a car that does this. It's mentioned here and there as being normal while others say it's a problem and now the NHTSA is looking into it. Comments anyone?
  13. That is correct. According to the person who posted in the Blue Oval Forum, the circuit board in the swich pack already has the LED's in place and they work when you supply 12v to the pin. The only thing missing is the feed wire which IS in place on the MKX. I assume these vehicles are made on the same assy line, and if that is the case, it's really puzzling why this wire is left out on the edge. It just makes no sense (to me anyway.) I didn't want to copy his post here, but it has a great picture of the switch asssembly (opened up) and a good explanation of what he found and how to correct it so they will be illuminated. Here is the link to the post. It's towards the bottom on page 2 http://www.blueovalforums.com/forums/index...20&start=20
  14. Since people from Ford are reading this string, I wanted to mention a post that was just put over on the Blue Oval (Edge) forum: I few people have questioned why the BAMR controls are lighted on the MKX and not the Edge. Someone just added a post saying that he took the switch control apart hoping to add LED's to the switches and lo and behold: The are ALREADY there! Apparently they are not lighted because Ford did not run a wire up the A-pillar from the dash lighting controls to the switch. This wire is on the Lincoln. What's even more puzzling is that the Edge DOES have the necessary ground wire. This just makes no sense. The sunroof controls really should be lighted in these vehicles and if the LED's are already there, why leave out a 10 cent wire? Ford should issue a service bulletin for this and install the wire to illuminate these controls if a customer requests it.
  15. This hurts: FORD GUYS reading this: You really need to add this to the EDGE. Put the blue oval where the Mazda symbol is and you're all set. I'd go out and buy it today if it was available.
  16. Thanks for the reply. I was just confused I guess, due to the way the description is worded in the manual and the way some here described how their locks were acting. I actually prefer them to open when the handle is pulled.
  17. Mine are not working as others have stated here. The doors lock at 12 mph like they are supposed to. HOWEVER, the passenger can open their door (and unlock) just by pulling the handle. I have set it according to the manual (several times) and it still acts the same. Something has changed, or the manual is wrong. The drivers door action, putting it in park, turning the key to various settings or removing it, isn't dictating anything in my car. Pull the passenger door handle at anytime, the door unlocks and out you go.
  18. Lincoln engine cover pics: Message to FORD: PLEASE add this piece to the Edge!
  19. Are all Edge's supposed to have that cover over the spare tire or is that part of the cargo managment option? I just bought a 2008 Edge and I don't have that cover over the spare tire. (I do not have the cargo management/plastic bins option). >>> OOPS! Just saw in an earlier post that the cover is part of the option.
  20. One more thing to add: The engine cover trim panel on the MKX is beautiful. It would really look nice on the Edge with a blue "Ford" oval on it. Ford should include this piece on the Edge. It covers all of the "busy" clutter on the top of the engine and gives a "finished" look to the engine bay. I like it so much I'm thinking of ordering one for my Edge.
  21. I'm not sure if this is working correctly: I have it set to "enabled" and the door unlocks (driver's) when I pull the handle to open the door. Same thing for the other doors. (They unlock indivdually). Is this how it's supposed to work? I get the impression from the manual that doors should unlock either when the tranny is placed in park or when the key is removed. The manual is not very clear about what is supposed to happen with this feature enabled. For that matter, how is it supposed to work with it --disabled--? (push unlock button to open the doors?) Just looking for input on how it's working on other Edges'. Thank you
  22. Just purchased an Edge. A few things really surprise me. They're all minor but still surprise me: 1. No glove box light. Any vehicle that's even slightly above bone-stock has had this lamp since the 50's. A small lamp in the console would be nice too. 2. Vista roof switches are not illuminated. Ford puts lamps in the rear window switches, but not the Vista Roof controls? This makes no sense. Even more baffling is that MKX has them. 3. Metal prop-rod to hold up the hood. Should have a gas strut to raise the hood. 4. No turn-signal repeater lamps on the mirrors or front fenders.
