Why then is the tranny fluid low after they refilled it during the inspection. If it's leaking out the seal, shouldn't it then be ATF? Unless the PTU itself is shot, that takes Rear diff fluid as you know.

Just got back from the dealer as they wanted to inspect my Edge so they knew what to order. I waited for the inspection for 1/2 hour, and since the parts are on national backorder I'm on a "waiting" list with two other Edge owners. No time frame on when they'll be here. Should I drive the car and just keep checking and adding tranny fluid? The dealer did top off the fluid but when I got home I checked the level and it was still down to Min. I'm wondering about asking for a loaner, but it could be weeks and do they really want to tie up a free loaner when they could be gaining rental income? My Edge just turned 16,100 miles. Lease is up in two years, better start looking.

Well WTF!!!! Add me finally to the ever growing list. If you check back a few pages I reported no smell or smoke. Guess what, it just happenend to our 08 AWD! I stopped and parked at the take out Chinese food place 5 miles from home and just as I pulled in to park I started to smell burning tranny fluid. Sure enough I crouched down to smell into the grill and it got stronger and I could see a little smoke. Now it has been sub-zero temps for the past three days and this is the first time I have driven the car in two weeks. My wife who primarily drives it hasn't noticed anything? The dealer will be getting a call Monday AM. I'll give him the part# for the updated PTU, hope this will register with him. just turned 16,000 miles. Not happy in Ma.

I have the same color with the Med. Stone int. Do yourself a favor and purchase the Sportwing BodySide moldings. Give them your paint code and they'll match perfect. Also invest in the rear bumper cover application for the flat surface under the rear hatch. Put on a set of front mudflaps, and maybe darker tint on the front windows. Do a search for the LED lights for the inerior and the puddle lamps and plate lights, great look! Maybe get rid of the pinstripe too.

My 08 Limited has 15,500 on it now and I haven't smelled anything yet, but it's the wifes car and she spends most of the time in it. Knowing my wife she doesn't pay much attention to much else other than her IPOD and defensive driving around all these Massholes, she probably hasn't even noticed it. Where the car is parked wouldn't show any leaks because of the old worn, stained from 150 years of you name it, wooden barn floor. I will peek under the passenger side today to look for leaks by parking in the snow. I called the Service Manager today @ Gervais Ford in Ayer and asked him if they were aware of the PTU seal failure and he told me they have had 8 - 10 Edges in for this repair. He also said that since the updated seals came in about 6 months ago not one Edge came back for repeat service? He said they have replaced a few axles as well. If mine isn't leaking it ain't broke and I'm not going to mess with it. We'll see. Doug

My 08 Limited came through the same way!. The drivers door did not line up and you could actually push the door in a little where it would squish the rubber weatherstripping. I brought it to the service departments' attention and they said they tried to fix it but if I didn't like it it would probably have to go to their body shop. Well I took the car to a local body man and it took him 5 min. to fix it! He brought the door striker in 1/8" towards the interior and brought the rear door in to meet the body lines. All is perfect now. He did not charge me either, I'll buy him a beer or 6! By the way, my wife didn't notice it either, until I showed her how the lines where off. The TSB reflash worked for my 08's rollback in drive. Did the rollback before , now there is no hint of one. But we are talking about something different correct? Park vs. drive. Oval

At cold idle I'm around 800-1000 RPM's-----When the Edge is warm whether my foot is on the brake in Drive or idling, I'm at 600 RPM's. Oval

Please explain what "hot' idle is. Do you mean after the car has warmed up and the idle has kicked down? I will check on this and report back.

Lex , now that you have done the dirty work could you please give us the part #'s for these bulbs? If you could please post the vendor and their part #'s for these bulbs. Thanks Oval PS can we change the puddle lamps to these as well??

Well answered akirby. They did not swap out the torque converter, only did a reflash on the tranny.

We leased too, and in reality the payments were only about $30 a month less for the Edge vs the 9. We'll save around $1,000 in three years, doesn't sound like much but in these times I'll take it. Factor in another 20 miles to the Mazda dealer from our house, making it 40 miles one way, also came down to what felt right and what we could afford. Yes the CX9 is a beauty but we would rarely have used the 3rd row and I still think it reminds me of a Pacifica? On a side note I wish we didn't go with the Med. Stone int. on this Edge. The carpet shows way more debris than I believe the Camel would have. I wanted the Charcoal Int. but the wife who drives it the most, hated the all black int. The reflash on the tranny seemed to haved worked to rid the car of it's rollback tendencies. Oval

Just had my 08 Limited reflashed today for the rollback issue. I gave the service dept. the TSB # and they did it for me. They also replaced the headliner which had a 1/2" tear when I picked up the car two weeks ago. They said it was a pain in the ass to replace because the wires were not attached to the metal roof with clips as in most other cars, rather the wires were glued to the headliner. They had to carefully cut away all the glue and then use a glue gun to reapply the wires to the new liner. Glad I didn't have to do it! The rollback has seemed to go away so it seems to have worked. Any of you that are experiencing this symptom should have your dealer be aware of the TSB.08-05-12 Oval

Do not go with the Murano and its POS CVT tranny!! Way too overpriced for that Jack-o-lantern look-a-like. I narrowed it down to the CX9 vs. the Edge. For the glare Ford got smart and did away with the silver trim ring around the center console top, and went with the black dash as opposed with all Camel. My Med Stone has very little glare, and I will stay away from using any shine products! So far so good with 760 miles on my 08

Why would you put a push bar on an Edge?? Just wondering

Go with the 18"s, not as harsh of a ride with the smaller tires, plus they will be a bit cheaper to replace if need be. I went with the Med. Stone Leather but it is the lightest color int. and can get dirty fast! Make sure to invest in weathertech mats all around or factory order the All Weather mats from Ford. Get a set of mud flaps for the front too, and purchase a rear bumper cover, look over on the Accessories and mods forum for it. While you're at it order the Sportwing bodyside mouldings matched to your color. Oval
