  1. I have just picked up my Edge so I have ZERO knowlege on how the tires will perform over the winter time. In the past, every car that I have ever bought came with some unknown tire that when winter came, simply had to be removed and I always replaced them with a Michelin LTX-M+S tire. I know how it handles and it's a bit more aggressive all season radial that for the roads here seems to do OK in winter time. This Edge comes with at least a set of Michelin tires, but I think they are more of an efficiency tire rather than a grippy one. So I get the feeling that this year I will break tradition and get actual snow tires for the winter time. So comes the great question. Do you use the factory rims and keep swapping the tires every 6 months back and forth (and risk bashing the edges of the rim each time in the process) or simply get a new set of winter rims (steel). Over the off season, you will need to store the alternate tires regardless so it makes no difference for space is they are on a rim or not. The only problem that I have found is that getting an 18" rim out here seems to be rather dificult. There are plenty of 17" rims than can be ordered, but I don't know if the clearance around the disc breaks is enough to handle a smaller rim so a tighter fit. The difference in tire profile is negligible between a 225/65R17 that snow tires are easy to get and a good $120 less for the tires to boot. Any thoughts or what others have done.
  2. I would start off by not assuming that it's actually a faulty sensor, and first check all the interconnects between each of the sensors to the wire harness. If it is going to fail, that is the point to check first. If the problem still persists, then I'd start looking at the sensors. As you replaced a bumper cover, then you would have had to disturb that wire harness. Just my thought.
  3. Well, it turns out that WeatherTech is just 15 minutes down the street from where I live.. How convenient. so a simple phone call and they had a set of liners waiting for me to pick up from the showroom. They fit like a charm and I am sure that the spills and salt stains are not going to be a bit more a thing from the past. Thanks to everyone who replied.
  4. I took delvery of my used 2013 Edge SEL today. They told me when I signed the contract that they would update all the systems and do all the outstanding TSB's. But I get the feeling this was really a BST (bull sh! trick) on me to make me part with my money. I did get a missing NAV SD card, but it's the A3, that is about 2 versions out of date. The MFT is still on version 3.5 and not updated. I have no idea if they did any additional work on the vehicle, and short of going in and demanding the service department pull all the work orders on the car, there is no way to know if anything was done. I was told that all the MFT updates were my responsibility. Not a bit deal, download to a USB and follow the instructions. My question is simple.. If I do the 3.6.2 upgrade to the MFT, will that include an update for the Nav SD card to bring it up to the latest A5 version, or is that something that I need to go back to the dealership to get? Thanks.
  5. Thanks for the heads up on more sound options. For me, I have not found a car that sounds all that good ever. I have since given up trying and moved over to the side of thinking that I am using the car to really get from point A to point B. Having something to listen to along the way is nice especially if is something that I like to listen to, but will be very forgiving of the quality as it's there purely as an accompaniment. When I want to listen to music, I have a proper hifi stereo system at home that will properly reproduce the music correctly. I fail to see the point for me to try and spend anything on getting an acoustically challenged vehicle to sound right. Though, that all said... when I get my telephone upgraded, I might look into putting the music onto it with a better player that I can just leave in the car and forget about.
  6. I took two Edge's for a test drive. As I bought used as that was the only way to get the price down to a level that I could afford on my car budget, you are buying what you get. The first one drove like a dream. Really quiet, smooth drive, everything worked great (except the nav as the SD card was missing). The second one was not. The ride felt like the suspension was bypassed. There was tremendous road noise. The A/C just blew very hot air. The breaks didn't just pulse, they shook the car when you used them. It was a horrible experience and I could not wait to get out, and I didn't walk away from that dealership... I ran. I am sure if I had only gone in the second vehicle, and made my conclusions from that, I would have said that the Edge is a terrible vehicle, but having intelligence, I knew that some used vehicles are traded as they have been abused and not maintained.. not an indications of how all of them are.
  7. I finally got the VIN number from the dealer and the car is supposed to be ready for me to pick up on Tuesday. I have checked with the Sync web site and it says that the previous owner (it's a CAP or I think that is what they were saying) ford executive didn't bother to update the unit in any way, so it's still running the MFT 3.2.2 software. I guess I will find out if they screen says anything on Tuesday when I pick the vehicle up. I am told they will give me a newer A5 sdcard. We will see but it is writen on my bil of sale word sheet. I was talking with a friend who I found out has the same model Edge that I just bought. His solution to music was not to bother with trying to get the files in an MP3 file format that Sync likes, but simply to plug in an old Ipod Classic with all the music on it and simply leave in in the car. I do have an older 60gb version kicking around somewhere. I can easily get all my songs converted over to the apple format and loaded. Looks like I am good to go. Thanks for the help.
  8. Thankyou for the recommendation. I was looking into the WeatherTech but they are quite a bit of money to simply buy on spec. Now that I know of two other people that have used them and will vouch that they do work and are worth spending the extra bit to get, then I will look into ordering a set.
  9. I have been driving a Ford Escape for the past 6 year and just about rotted a hole in the drivers side sills from the dreaded Canadian winter salt machine. Every spring the carpets on the driver side are white and crusty from the salt off the roads. I have used one of those pant saver car mats that catch the melting snow off your shoes but don't fit all that well. I have just purchased a 2013 SEL model and am hoping to better protect my investment up front. Can anyone recommend a good made fitted floor mat that will work at protecting the inside of my new Edge? Any links would be helpful. I am in Canada, so it would help as well if the products were available up here. But I do live close to the US boarder and can drive down there if cost or availability would make it advantageous. Thanks. Matt.
  10. I just purchased a used Edge 2013 SEL from my local ford dealer. I have read up as best that I can about updates but am not sure if I totally understand everything. My car comes with the touchscreen Sync and Navigation system, but is missing the SD card from what I am told that has the navigation maps on it. I was told that they would give me the latest version when the car is prepped and ready to be picked up. I got the how to check the MFT version, but don't know if this is at all releated to the navigation system? How do maps for the navigation system get updated? is it like a TomTom or Garmin system or are you at the whim of Ford to release updates? I have tried to get a map list from fords http://www.navigation.com/ but it keeps telling me that : It seems that we were unable to find an available product for you but we'd still like to help. Not much help for me really and it's friday night now so no help until next week if I call them. I also noticed that the unit has 2 USB plugs. I don't own an iphone and my android phone is pretty old, so I was wondering if I could put music onto a USB drive and plug it in to have my music in MP3 there? But this brings up some more questions. what size usb drive can the MFT Sync unit handle? is there a maximum number of songs, directories, tree levels ...? what version of ID tagging does this unit work with? I had an older Ford Escape that didn't like the ID3v2 tagging at all. I don't want to be trying to convert my music to something that won't work. Any help to what is liked and works would be helpful. The dealer is clueless. Any other help tips or advise is much appreciated. Matt
