  1. I had XM for about 6 years before I got the Edge and Sirius and I liked XM better. That comparison has gone away with the merger now, so you live with what you get. I did call Sirius and extend my subscription for 18 months adding the best of XM so I could get NHL back. The cost per month worked out to around $10 a month going long term, so not a bad deal

I'm REALLY getting TIRED of EVERONE sticking their hand in my pocket :censored: .

TiVo, Sirius/Xm, Direct Tv, Toll Roads, red light cameras, can't go to either mail without going through a dozen pieces wanting to MAKE me a deal, etc, etc.

  2. hmm.. interesting..

so, "Testing has shown gains of up to 35hp and 27ft/lbs of torque at the wheels when running this system without the insert AND using a custom tune."

now how does this insert & no tune change the numbers, any idea?

I'm going to guess ... Dramatically

Ford spends BIG $'s tuning the intake system, it is worth ever .01 for the improved millage.

Note: I would still like to try one but fell the $300 would be better spent on better brake pads or REAL wheels.

I'm not going to post the break-in period, your mileage WILL improve. :victory:

  4. The service manager at my dealership says its in the fusion, focus, flex edge and Taurus x

Which brings up the next question.

Are they having the same failure rate as the edge?

Don't laugh I've been around a few engineers   that can't see the haystack for all the needles.

Could be as simple as the Edge is a little heaver/lighter than the others = different angle on the offending shaft.

Someone mentioned earlier that the exhaust is VERY close to this seal.

  5. I just bought an '08 MKX that has adaptive headlight. These are the ones that turn with the steering wheel. The headlights are broken and I am trying to buy some junk yard or Ebay replacements.

I get conflicting information if all headlights on MKX are the same or if some are not adaptive and some are. Does anyone know for sure if there are two types of headlights for an '08 MKX or two types?

    Doug

Did you buy it "as is no warranty"?

  6. Called this morning, no ETA on when the part(s) will arrive, ( they must be coming from China or something or shipped out to fix all you guys ! ) so the wife's Edge will continue to drip brown spots on the resealed driveway all weekend now. And after reading all these threads, geeze, some of you guys that have been dealing with this since 2007, I can see how this is getting real irratating. So Ford has helped me decide here, I'm getting an 09 Ram Sport, not the 09 F150 FX4 that I test drove last week. This issue made up my mind to 'go to the Dodge side' for the new truck..

I had one of those (Dodge) really liked  it, ran good, pulled good...When I could use it.

1800 miles bad transmission, then again at 18000

    2200 bad radiator

Can't remember what happen at 3500 miles but it spent 3 MORE days at the dealer

    etc

    etc

    etc

Traded it with 37K miles, lady tracked me down.. transmission gone at 39000, paint gone etc etc

But it did run and pull good at least 3 weeks out of 4.

  7. thanks all for the suggestions.....akirby....the procedure I use is to push the set button and then the unlock botton on the key....then the number 1 or 2 on the door again.....I have a chevy with the memory system and the keys are marked plainly on the back...1 and 2...these MKX keys dont have any markings....does it matter which key is set as 1 and which one is set as 2.....I love these Forums....so much info out there.....thanks again everyody for the input......

    larry......

After rereading your original post, "07 MKX...(demo car).... btw I took it to the dealer and the salesman couldnt figure it out either...said he would have to do some research and I should come back next week....thanks...."

I'm thinking the batteries may be down/defective in the keys.

Revisit your dealer and get him to fix or replace your keys.

  8. I am curious to know if anyone else has had this problem with the power liftgate on their Edge.

Recently the liftgate has been reversing on its own, it opens all the way (chiming away) and a couple of seconds after opening starts reversing and closes. At first I thought something might be pushing against the hatch control button in the cargo area or on my key, but I ruled that.

Its a 2008 Edge Limited AWD and this is the first problem we have had since taking delivery last Sept.

I'm hoping its something minor, but till I get it into the dealer I'm being extra careful leaning into the back of the Edge.

Any info or feeed back would be great.

    Thanks

    It does sound confused.

Our 08 MKX has an up AND down limit switch BUT IT DOES NOT chime on the way UP.

The up limit switch when activated just stops the lift gate, no up/down.

The down limit switch reverses the lift gate to the fully open position.

Disconnecting the battery and stepping on the brake for a few minutes has been recommended a few times lately to resolve strange problems, you might want to give it a try. Before letting it spends a couple of days at the dealer.

  9. I wasn't sure so I did a little research and couldn't find any other CAI's that require a tuner

"NOTE: This Cold Air Kit REQUIRES a tune. Failure to use a tune can result in engine damage. For more information about purchasing a tune,"

Which makes me think this CAI (ONLY) install would result in little or NO increase in hp/torque.

Example: A CAI (only) install on a ford 6.0 diesel results in NO increase in hp/torque.

Anybody ever seen a CAI that REQUIRES a tune?

  10. We had a similar event with a GM dealership.

Sun roof wouldn't open (3 times), after the 3rd time it would open often (no buttons needed), then the doors stopped locking, then the right rear window went down but not up.

Trouble fixed when a tech commented that you have to reset the sun roof when you disconnect the battery, and I'll fix those pinched wires.

Sad to say but there are Automotive technicians and then there are people who work (???) on cars.

  11. The brakes suck on my 08 MKX also. I was on my way to my local BMW dealer today (hopefully get rid of this p.o.s.) and almost wet myself when I hit the brakes and they didn't respond properly. Way to go Ford engineering! YOU SUCK!

We traded UP :D from an 04 X3i and really liked it.

We found the BMW not very quick but it handled and stopped almost as good as a 325.

We also found the premium fuel a pain at the pump.

I highly recommend you check a new X3 the new motor really wakes up the X3.

BUT you won't be getting those BMW looks, most people don't know an X3 from a Santa Fe.

    One other thing:

The MKX hasn't had any warranty work in 7 months and 15k miles, we couldn't say that about the BMW.

    We finally figured out that.

"I have to take the Bimmer, Caddy, Mercedes in"... is a social statement.

  12. Thanks for the advice, but I had actually done the search before I posted the question (not out of the question that I missed a post, but I did try searching beforehand).

I came across one post where a guy had said he did this, and he advised using a multimeter to find which wires to use. I knew the multimeter was a sure way to find the wires, I was just wondering if someone would be able to say "the black/green wire is switched 12v" for example, so I wouldn't have to run to Radioshack for the multimeter. I was also thinking that if someone did respond, it would be here for the next guy looking to do this. When I do the wiring I'll be sure to return and post the details on which wires.

    Did you get it installed?

I used the BLUE red wire on pin #1 on the plug for the mirror for switched power on our 08 MKX.

Here are some pictures, we don't have the hole in the roof, so your may be a little differant.

All the work was done in the over head console.

  13. Here's my opinion, he's pulling our legs. Nobody is that stupid!

Don't call them stupid, just "mechanically un-inclined.

35 yr’s ago I helped change the oil in my new brother in law's 2 yr old Chevy with 18000+ miles for the first time  , this was before he earned a Masters degree from Baylor.

An ex-coworker (retired from the army) bought a LoJack for a new 97 escort.

A friend tells me his wife killed a motor, the check engine light was on for several days.

It would have been nice if the repair shop had repaired the problem (leaking heater core) while they were working on the symptom (burned up motor). She was back in 2 weeks for another motor. She worked for a law office so she didn't pay for the second motor.

  14. Happy New Year everyone!

So my wife bought a 2007 Ford Edge brand new, puts 15,000 miles on it in 1.5 years, and then the engine light came on, the car rattles and acts like it is going to stall whenever she stops at a light...the car acts like it's kinda choking or something.

We took it to our local gas station to have it looked at, and were told that it needs to have some parts replaced and it will cost around $700, that's when I found out that the car has not had an oil change ever!

I immediately had the car sent to the local Ford service center, the guy there called after a few days and told us that our car needs a brand new engine and the warranty is voided due the the lack of oil changes.

The cost will be around $10,000!

    Is this possible?

    TIA!

10K for parts and labor does sound a little high.

15k miles even on the original oil should not cause the engine to fail (ask my brother in law what 18K oil looks like).

BUT it will void your warranty.

I'm betting the motor didn't have any oil the last time she drove it.

I wouldn't let the dealer start without a second opinion.

Try here for a much cheaper way to get a motor installed http://www.autopartsfair.com/used_engines/...-inventory.html

    Looks like $1500 + shipping + installation.

I'm thinking you can find a "auto repair" shop in your yellow pages that will do it for 3K.

BUT YOU NEED TO DO SOME HOMEWORK, check them out first.

  15. Lately Iv'e been noticing a new issue with my 08 edge. When I start the car and go to shift out of Park, it won't let me. It's like there's a lock on it. I have the brake depressed all the way down. I have to keep pressing the shift lever and eventually it will free up and I can shift out of Park. Is anyone else having or had this issue. I only have 10000 mls. I'm waiting to see if anyone else has or is having the issue before I call my dealer because I know I'll just get the run-a-round or the old "We were not able to replicate the problem, we cannot help you...goodbye". Thanks

Take careful notes about when the problem happens.

Only happens first time you start it in the morning, outside temperature.

Only happens when it's been driven several miles.

Only happens when parked on a hill, uphill downhill.

Doesn't happen when you push the brake then release then reapply the brake.

    etc.

Have you run over ANYthing? You might want to get under there and look.

Trust me anytime you tell the service writer that "It will not shift out of park at times when it really only happen when it's been driven will result in "Can't duplicate problem"

    Good luck

  16. Premium has the same or more detergents as regular - that's always been the argument for using Premium over regular - it keeps you engine cleaner.

Even regular gas has plenty of detergents today - it's federally mandated. Therefore the only practical difference is octane rating. And using premium in an engine designed for regular will not gain you anything - period. It's a scientific fact. Using regular in an engine designed for Premium will cause the timing to be retarded which will reduce power and fuel economy. But since you're a "professional", buddy, I guess you already knew that.

  17. 10k on the brakes doesn't sound like much BUT a friend has to replace his wife's pads EVERY year and the rotors every other year.

And he buys bulbs by the dozen :hysterical:

If pumping the pedal does help you may have air in the system, try to keep something soft in front of you till you get it back to the seller.

    Good luck

  18. I'm moving to Dover, Maine for 3 months begining Jan. 12. I've lived in Fla. all my life and have never operated a car in cold weather. I have a 2008 Edge. I would appreciate any advice re. preparation of my Edge for the weather and care while I am there.

I'm not sure about your Edge, there are 110V block heaters that are easy to use.

    Snow tires??

But my neighbors daughter is going to school in Chicago and they told her to not even bother bringing her coat from TX, it wouldn't be enough.

  19. A few times now, the check brake system on the dash HUD comes on, only for a second then goes out, I had my edge for a year now and this only happened twice. Any ideas and what casued this malfunction.

How many miles on your Edge?

    ab

  20. It would definitely be worth a try. :victory:

Your Edge will forget almost everything it has learned about the way you drive.

Your radio presets should not be lost and hopefully your sync info will be retained.

I usually disconnect the battery in all my cars once a year.

It's a little like shutting down your PC every night.
