Does anyone know if OBDLink has discontinued the MX+ model? I received one as a Christmas present and have not used it yet.  I was  searching the internet yesterday and noticed that Amazon and other merchants indicate the MX+ is out of stock.  It was advertised with life time updates an and a 3 year satisfaction guarantee.

That's an interesting find.  The MX+ is still posted in the 'products' section at OBDLink but clicking links to both Amazon and Scantool bring up 'out of stock' messages as BillE mentioned.

Good news though. Recent updates to the MX+ are posted on Scantool.net so no worries, we haven't been abandoned.  I'm going to speculate it's a supply chain problem with so many shipments from China now being held up due to Coronavirus.

Edit to add: I've just reached out to OBDLink asking why the MX+ is out of stock at their two primary outlets.  I don't expect an answer today but will update this thread when I do receive a reply.

i just ordered one yesterday from Amazon.  The ScanTool.net sight is still showing none available.

I have gotten two remotes from this sight.  One for an SEL and one for an ST.

Programmed both following the owners manual.  Have had absolutely no issues at all.

Not sure who you used or how much you paid, but the listed products were well worth it.

My 07 SEL 3.5  very quiet engine and trans, has no engine cover but does have a hood blanket unlike my  2019 SEL which I had to puchase one from ford.

Did all of the attaching hardware come with it and was it just a direct snap in procedure ?

And do you have the part number handy ?

Thanks to the great video in the first posting, I was able to replace my single horn on the ST with dual horns.

It only took 3 times as long as anyone else cause I really suck at being a mechanic!  Follow the video that started this thread and you will be successful.

The original poster purchased the "Level 2" horns for about $18.  FA1Z-13832-B.  They Fiamm and made in the USA.

I saw a listing for a "Level 3" horn for $28.  That part number is FA1Z-13832-A. They are Fiamm and made in China.  I did sterilize them to kill off the Corona virus .  (just kidding).

Are they louder than the Level 2 horn?  I don't know.  They are similar in size and appearance to the cheaper horns.

BTW...I have enclosed the actual Ford procedure for removing the headlights.  They were a help.  There is a catch underneath you free by pulling the lights forward.  I did grease the catch so that next time I change a bulb, it releases easier.

    Thanks

I did mine a couple weeks ago.  The "B" part made in the USA has two FIAMM  AM80SX horns.  One marked "H"igh and the other "L"ow.  I was able to look up the specs on the FIAMM sight.     Do you know what the markings are on the "A" part (Level 3) ?

    Thanks B.

I will look into the battery problem.  I would hope that is not the problem and that the battery would last 5 years or so.

I kept the battery charger on it overnight and so it started right up yesterday and seemed to have everything in the settings saved as normal.

That's what I thought.   The original battery on my 2015 SEL died a few weeks shy of 3 years.  Just under the wire to get it covered by the warranty.

  6. It seems the problem is the Service Department's shortcut.   I have changed the oil on my 2015 3.5 SEL and have dropped the entire splash shield.  I believe it is about 6 bolts and a plastic clip or two.

It does add a few more minutes to remove and replace the shield, but I do it properly.  I did notice that at least one of the bolts no longer has a tight fit inside the plastic grommet (probably why your guy just used a larger bolt), but since I didn't bend mine down it stays in place.

Did you ever get a reply from Ford?

  7. I assume it is like the rear window defroster.  It runs for a predetermined amount of time and then it shuts off.  If you still need defrost, you manually turn it on for another cycle.

When mine came on with the recent cold, I had to manually turn it off sooner than its cycle because I thought the steering wheel was getting too hot.

There was a thread on here explaining how to change the heat settings with ForScan and one of the statements was about how the higher the set temperature the quicker the heating element would burn out.

I don't think it is meant to run continuously,  but someone with better knowledge may be along soon.

How does the consumer know anything about the vehicle other than what Ford says?   The part numbers are different - why would they go to all that trouble otherwise?

Some things you can actually see, such as the battery.  It is obviously a larger capacity battery.  But the starter, starter solenoid, alternator/generator not so sure.

And I am sure Ford doesn't want to be replacing starters at an astronomical rate on vehicles with auto start/stop,  but I still think there has to be more overall wear on a starter that may activate 25-30 times a day as compared to twice a day.

Maybe it is because of my age and experience with older cars.  You knew that starter or alternator had a certain lifespan and that was it.   Come to think of it, I haven't replaced a starter since an '85 Dodge Diplomat.

The engine only needs to be off for 0.6 seconds for it to save fuel.  Think of all the wear and tear you are saving on the engine by not having it idling for all that time, it adds up to dozens of hours over the vehicle's life.

I'm still a little confused as to why so many people don't like it.  Is it the (incorrect) assumption of extra wear, is it the slight noise and vibrations on start-up, is it the reduced climate performance, is it the inability to creep along after stopping?  Those are all semi-legitimate reasons, but all can be overcome once you get used to it.

I bought mine in the early Fall so I haven't had any sustained extreme temperature conditions to judge the climate performance.  What I did observe was a non factor.   The startup is slightly more noticeable than other brand vehicles that I have driven with auto start.  An Escape I rented in Los Angles I had no problem leaving engaged.  I don't mind the engine shutting off for a minute or more, but every block for 5-8 seconds sometimes is annoying.  And you can't tell me that there isn't more wear and tear on the components utilized to constantly restart.  I do try to leave it engaged as much as I can, But I am glad we have to option to disable it.

  10. I hate when I am pulling up to a red light and I can see from the countdown pedestrian timer that I will only have the light for a second or two and then the engine shuts off, only to have to immediately start two seconds later.  I find myself quickly shutting off the auto-start when I see this scenario.

The St we are looking at was built the day before the bulletin 19-2313, Oct 17th.  It is a 2020 and only 2019 are listed on the bulletin. Wish I could find out it the update has been done. I am sure dealer won't look at it since it states 2019 on the bulletin. Local dealer here in AZ of course say they have not seen any problems, typical dealer BS.

Are you able to take that ST for a test drive?

We are looking to buy a ST.  All of these transmission issues have me worried about even buying one. Are most of the problems posted on earlier production models or are there some newer production models still having the issues.  It would be nice to know the build dates. If we buy a 2020 made after October will we be safe and not have all these problems? How about 2019 made in August of this year, they have some great discounts. Thanks

Bought my 2019 in September 2019.  Built August 2019.   It has the Trans issues, but I haven't had a chance to get back to the dealer yet.  Only have 1,000 miles on it and waiting to see what else the dealer has to address.  Other than that, I am happy with it.

Not bad; right now one resides in my wife's purse and the other I keep with me.  Will discuss it with her.  I will look into my other idea of a spare KEY;  will visit local Ford dealership and talk to them;  will get a feel about how helpful and friendly they are.  The dealership where I bought it is only about 40 min away but this one is closer.  Shouldn't have to visit them for almost 6 months.

As long as you have two programmed fobs, you can program a third one yourself.  I would look at places like https://www.carandtruckremotes.com/  to buy a third fob.  Much cheaper than the dealer.  I bought from them and had no issues at all.

  14. Yours is showing the Gold is required.

I know you can still get it from Ford, because I still use it in a 2004 Crown Vic.

I would assume that you could switch to another flavor, as long as it is flushed well and make sure you continue to use the same type.

Ironically I bought extra of the Motorcraft Orange Coolant for my 2015 and now my new 2019 ST was filled with the Yellow and there was an addition to the owners manual noting the change.

Fact, 7% slope road, crest hill at 25mph 1,200rpm.  floor it.  At bottom of hill mash the brake pedal, reach speed of 0mph.

Please tell me again why any of this matters?

Because mashing the brakes at the bottom of a hill to reduce or stop its acceleration, is not the best way to keep the vehicle under control.  But I'll let you guys get back to your debate.

Given the driving scene these days, not surprised.  Those drivers may have been perfect the rest of the drive, and just got tuckered out for that moment.  Following their journey and talking to them is the only way to know.

Also if there is a way to easily blot out license plates, please do it.

    Exactly why is this recommended?
