I wonder if the tapping noise that you are referring to is the direct injection high pressure fuel pump. Most Direct Injection engines have a loud tapping sound, almost sounds like a diesel engine. I would fill it up with premium fuel (93) and see if at least the tapping sound isn't quite so loud.
