  1. What you have is, imo, an expensive large car/small truck (don't feel bad, I have one too). What we don't have is an offroader. I love my Edge but I am not going rock crawling anytime soon.

About the biggest risk I will take is the local campground......

If you want to go mudding, buy an 90's sidekick (probably 1k or close) add some 35's and run it hard. Who cares if it gets schmucked up?

  2. Living in Minnesota, I got my Edge at the end of winter (2/28) and just got clipped by about two heavy snows if I remember correctly. Anyhow, it drove just as well if not 'easier' than my mom's Land Rover. In the past, if I had appointments when it snowed, I would stop by her house and switch cars (she's retired) in lieu of driving my Intrepid. No need to do so anymore.

  3. Go figure,

I called today to see what my options were, initially she told me the 'best' deal was the year for $142 and some change, then she said I qualify for a 'discount' bringing the annual subscription to $129.xx. I then said I would opt for the month to month subscritption and she said they do not offer that but since I 'qualified for the discount' I could get a quartely subscription for $27.70 ($29.27 after taxes...).obviously, this is even less than the $129.xx she offered me. I have ZERO idea what this discount was, if it is for people on the fence or people with Fords, she did NOTHING to explain it to me. Anyhow, if you are interested in re-upping your Sirius, hold out for the $27.70 quarterly subscription or even better. Keep us posted.

  4. So for the most part, we all like our Edge's.....

We have not had any perceived braking issues to date......

We have enough faith in the vehicle AND Ford as a whole, to transport ourselves and often our families in the vehicles, is that safe to assume?

If so, then why on EARTH are we hammering this poor person for asking around? It sounds defensive to me. I am a father of two young girls and these would seem to be legitimate concerns to me prior to purchase had I read about them. He/She comes here to prod a little and we lambaste rockfish? It just doesn't add up.

I mean seriously '07 MKX' telling rockfish to buy the nitro just because a million other people have inquired about the same issue is abrasive at best. As if rockfish knows or to that end cares what other people have asked. This is rock's question, man up and help this person out with reasonable info/ideas or let the thread be.

I can say when I read about these 'issues' I took the Edge out on country roads and ran it HARD. I ran her up to 111 numerous times and hammered the brakes. Cold stops, hot stops, the whole nine yards. I was pleased with its' performance although I am not sure what I would have done had I not been.

Input like this may help, not sure...but certainly 'buy a nitro' has little added value to the forum. No I am not the forum cop but I come here for info and even comradarie. I have come to actually appreciate your banter but newbies have no idea. Sorry for publicly outting you, a lot of posters on this forum have been doing this as of late, yours just stuck out a bit.

Ok, now that, that is off my chest, flame away. I will step away from the fire so as not to get burned.........

And seriously, the cliff analogy? It did cross my mind when the bridge collapsed. Irrational indeed but close to home as well.....

  5. Well this particular member of www.fordedgeforum.com goes by the nickname or 'handle' SZone so I spose his Edge is fine and his Lube, Oil Change and Filter Replacement cost just a bit less that $40 US? I can also assume he had this service performed at a FORD (A US Based car manufacturer) dealer which goes by the name Galpin. One could also presume he purchased his vehicle at said automotive sales entity but that would be beyond my scope of expertise. Hence

    all Clear for the SZone

One could also infer from his/her use of the term 'took', this person felt slighted by the fees paid for the aforementioned vehicle maintenance services. Please correct me if I am wrong......

Anyone curious on how I may have 'Sherlocked' my way into these hypotheses is welcome to come to my 'Fundamental Rules of Rudimentary Observation and How to Apply them in your Understanding of the Tawdry Web that is the Internet' Held every 6th Thursday of the month.

This month's class will further break down szone's driving and purchasing habits as well as the subjects overall diet standards and financial wherewithall. If time permits, we will then delve into our subjects political and religious acumen or lack thereof.

  6. fly6,

First of all, I was sticking up for you. Trying to point out to other posters that there are other languages in this world besides English, I apologize if we upset you. Regardless, your English is better than any secondary language I have. I do not have HID on my Edge so I cannot speak directly to your question. Here is a link which may or may not help. Good luck.

  7. It IS possible this person's primary language is NOT English. I am no linguist but in my opinion, these types of errors (improper tense and such) are clues to someone trying to learn English as a second language as opposed to someone who is truely not educated (heaven knows we have those folks on this board as well.) Anyhow, my point is, I know when I try to speak or write in Spanish, my grammer is not correct simply because English in and of itself is ridiculously messed up in all ways.

It's no wonder people think we (native English speakers) are an arrogant sort........

Truth be told though, the 'cuz' is throwing me for a loop. Oh well.

  8. I actually did think about putting Sweetie on that list but it's not my style......

I am no Sweetie sympathizer but Amanda did similar and she wasn't lambasted. There are too many things in life to worry about WITHOUT internet bickering, imo.

  9. OK, things are much easier in the daylight. I disconnected the battery and spliced the wires, all is well. A sidenote, even when you remove the battery cable, the Nav/Audiophile system retains it's memory, not a huge deal but nice nonetheless.

I put the screen in the sunglass holder, just seemed to be a natural for it. I was able to hide all the wires well. The only little mod I made was to cut a very small semi-circle in the top of the tray so it will open without rubbing on the wire. I would have preferred coming out of the headliner a little further back to avoid this but there is a steel support beam in the way (dang 5 star crash ratings.... :hysterical:) Anyhow, I am pleased with the screen location and wire. Total time was under two hours, would most likely be under one in the daylight.

One thing I am not pleased with is the location of the camera, perhaps one day, when I get tuit.jpg

I will take all the trim off of the hatch, remove the camera and then reset just above the hitch in the plastic skirting. I do a lot of recreational towing and the ability to see the hitch would EASILY pay for this camera if it avoids one mistake. As for safety, if you do not tow nor plan to tow, the license plate position (as it is designed) is just fine.

On last question, I ran the power for the monitor to the fusebox and hooked it to the radio fuse (#39). Unfortunately, that fuse is always hot so the screen stays on. I would like to move it to a different power source, anyone have an idea on which fuse I should hunt for?

  10. I have been working this evening on installing a similar system. Granted I have had some beers but nothing like Jillo

Anyhow, pulled the trim, removed some of the headliner, ran the wires fairly well imo, being somewhat of a novice. Spliced the hot and ground into the rear light and went to fire up my rig. BLACK screen. Is it possible the green with red stripe wire to the reverse lamp is NOT the hot? Do you recall when you installed yours? Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks, DJ

  12. I had an older generation Pioneer in-dash in my Intrepid (Avic A9 if I remember correctly) and it seemed to work fine in Minneapolis.

The stock unit in the edge is just as capable in my opinion. I did learn with the first one, if you were looking for a commonly named road such as '1st Avenue', it was better to work it backwards by entering the city first, then the street, I still do that in the Edge as well. I can't imagine it is only in MPLS, it must be every big city.

On a different tangent, my older nav had voice command. It was so poor I used it once or twice just to play with it, or when I couldn't reach my remote while driving. I must say, NOT having voice on the current nav is no big deal at all. In fact, the touch screen without voice is miles better, for me anyhow, than fancy voice and a darned remote to keep track of.
