  1. I posted about misfire issue with my 08 edge, having ford post issue as a tsb and not a much deserved recall. My wife had our 08 edge towed to the local ford dealer in jasper ga "schottenkirk ford" with a horrible misfire and with the check engine light on. She was contacted by the service advisor being told that it had misfire codes for cylinders 1,2,3,4,& 5 and the bad coils "fried" the processor, cost to repair $3000.00. Being an ASE master certified technician with 25+ years experience i did not feel this could be possible since she shut off the engine immediatly upon drivability issue. The vehicle had approx 90,000 on spark plugs, ignition coils still original. Knowing fords inability to design a coil to last and knowing plugs were due for replacement i searched ebay and found 6 new aftermarket coils that have lifetime warranty for $100, motorcraft oe plugs and intake seals for $28. Upon removal of coils i could not find any visual trackings or burn marks, did find #5 spark plug cracked. I replaced all coils and plugs since i already had all. Checked for trouble codes and did not have any, drive cycle was complete, this seems odd with no codes and drive cycle complete on a vehicle that has a."fried" ecu. The vehicle is fixed, mo processor needed as schottenkirk ford had told my wife. As a ase master tech with 25+ years experience i can only figure 1 of 2 reasons my wife was told it would take $3000 to repair her edge, schottenkirk ford either 1) tried to take advantage of my wife or 2) neither the technician at schottenkirk ford nor the service advisor know how to properly diagnose and repair a vehicle.
  2. Have an 08 unfortantly. Biggest mistake of my life. Cant wait to dispose of it and my relationship with FORD MOTOR COMPANY
  3. I am so discussted with ford motor company. I am 46 years old and have only owned 1 vehicle that was not a ford, i never thought i would ever consider buying anything but a ford. But the last 2 brand new ford purchases were nothing but garbage vehicles. I am an ASE certified auto tech, i have 25 years experience, i have recomended ford to many customers but i assure you it wont ever happen again. First car of hell was a 2000 focus se 2.0, bad habbit of dropping valve seats destroying the piston and ford quit making the valve seats. From day one water leaked in passanger floor, fords fix... a for sale sign wrapped around top of fresh air duct. Not first car ford used for sale sign either, do you remember the thunderbird? Now the piece of s#@t edge 3.5l, first the transmission takes a dump at 107,000 and yes it was serviced within recomended intervals, 3rd gear solenoid went out dropping pressure burning up clutches, could not find anyone that would touch the transmission, ford quoted $15,000, i found a used one on ebay. The front end pops, rattles, sounds like hell, fords response... its just how they are.. wasnt like that when we bought it. Front brake rotors warp about every 5,000 miles, replaced oe garbage with vented/slotted rotors and so far have been ok. Now the ignition coils going bad taking out the ecu... quoted from same dealer as transmission $3000 for updated coils, new plugs, and new ecu. Ford is well aware of this issue, every ford car on the road with this engine is having this problem. Fords fix... a tsb, not a recall. Come the hell on ford motor company, i paid $30,000 for this hunk of crap, couldnt you absorb this cost? I bragged from a ford fan stand point that ford did not take government bail out, maybe they should have and used the money for some R&D. Ford has lost this customer for life, i recently purchased a new kia optima and im very happy with it, i just laugh at the broke down fords on the side of the road as i pass them in my kia. MY ADVICE TO ANYONE THINKING OF BUYING A NEW FORD.... DON'T
