  1. LOL. I'm App State, daughter is ECU, son is NC School of the Arts (Fighting Pickles - lol) so no affiliation on that front. And my wife is not a sports fan. She couldn't tell you how to even hold a football bat.
  2. Sometimes I ask my wife, "blue or orange?".
  3. For the record, I did this on 7/15 at 103,066 miles. We'll see if we have any failures. Front coil packs to back and back to front. Replaced with Iridium plugs, because I hope to never do them again. If I double the mileage, I'll probably be ready to get rid of it by then. I haven't added 10K miles since we bought it in Dec, so I feel pretty good about that. We had a trip to MS for 1500 miles in one week. Probably won't do that in the Edge again. The plugs were the OEMs I suspect. They were the OEM # and had a gap that was around DOUBLE the spec. I'm hoping that my mileage will increase at least a little. The Edge pulled hard before so I don;t get any seat-of-the-pants improvement that I can tell. Plug change took around 5 hours, from time we were ready to go get parts til finished. Of course, our neighbor called and talked for 1/2 hour and it took 1.5 hours to find a gasket set in stock. UGH. Rock Auto next time. Went to 4 different stores before finding one in stock. So that's 2 hours doing nothing really. After that, everything went fairly smoothly. No surprises.
  4. Update: my wife decided on "sunshine" since mine is orange. Mostly, I say "the Edge". She named her new blue Tucson "Delta" because we are blues fans and we go to MS Delta country for blues every year.
  5. Seems a better idea to me, but waiting for he collective knowledge to ring in. Put the most worn (heat cycles) ones in the front, so if they do fail, they will be easier to access. And the ones in the back should be better than the old ones. Or you could replace them with new if you wanted, while in there. I'll probably stay with the OEMs, since they are working. Unless there is some kind of spiritual imprinting that would preclude moving them around. Mojo and all that, ya know.
  6. I have read that the heat issue on the rear coils is what causes them to fail. I am at 100K and am getting ready to do new plugs. Would it be better to put hte 100K coil packs from the back to the front? That would put the ones with the most heat cycles up front in the cool and the ones that have been cooler in the back. I read and watched the vids when I first got the Edge in 12/16. And now it's time to actually do it so I'm reading up again. Thanks Randy
  7. I also remembered something else- the Edge may be WIIIIIDE compared to a previous vehicle. I no longer fit in all the parking spaces I used to. Not and still be able to open the doors....lol. I saw that in a review as well and it is true. No more slipping between cars that are parked on or close to the lines adjacent to your space. You'll fit, but never open the doors and get out. Randy
  8. If you are here researching a 2007-08 Edge, then I might be of some help. here is a one month report - 1500 or so miles. Bought my 07 Blazing Copper Edge with 94500 miles for 9900 OTD I think. FWD SEL Plus. I felt good about it. Still do. BUT... The good - reasonably good power. comfy for a big man and his wife. Nice features like the power seat. Options are nice. ours does not have the rear DVD or Sunroof thing. I'm fine with that. Looks good still to me. Drives nicely. I'm 50 and skid pad numbers don't matter too much anymore to me. Looks nice from the driver's seat. Tan interior. Cruise works good. Plenty of room for people and objects. With the fold flat front seat, was able to put 8' shelving boards completely inside. the bad - the things that can make or break for a potential buyer possibly. Not really bad, but just different. No grab rails. Odd and you don't notice how much you miss them til you realize they aren't there. The interior, while it looks nice, is fairly chintzy. Other reviews called this out too. All hard plastic. No big thing, but could have been nicer. I would have expected more had I bought it new. Toyota Venza has a more interesting console area for storage. But the Edge has a good system too. Put your phone in the little bay on top of the dash. Get an air freshener with a light for the bay in front of the shifter. You will need it at some point. The memory seat switch is positioned conveniently on the door, instead of the seat. Easier to use than down out of sight. However the seat back recline is manual. Dumb. As is the lumbar. Dumb. These should have been power operated. Also when I activate my seat postion, it sends the mirrors to the wrong place. No amount of saving the position has corrected this. And if I set the keyfob to set the seat, the mirrors have to be fixed everytime. This is proabably an age-related flaw, but it is a bit aggravating. Not sure why, but the seat doesn't always slide back for entry. I'm sure this is some combination of operator error though. That is a nice feature. The Nav system. I like it. I do need an updated map DVD - on ebay for cheap I think. If you are used to Garmin, this one doesn't tell you how fast you are going or any of that stuff. It will however, route you to a destination once you figure out how to use. Read the book. Best to have an address on hand to start with. And it may direct you there and tell you it doesn't have information for a road, when it shows it on the map (?). Radio/CD changer work well. Oh yeah, if you aren't using the NAV, turn the whole system to radio or you have to agree to terms EVERY time you start it. Not really intuitive like a Garmin. But functional. MPG - Not all that good. (20 ish combined - real world driving in the foothills of NC - a lot of hills to pull and coast). As other reviews point out. Brakes work good but don't engage at very top of pedal like many other vehicles. I suspect this might be why other reviews say the braking could be better. Get used to these before you put yourself in a bad predicament. Do some practice panic stops. Don't follow so closely.. duh No power lift gate on ours. And I noticed this on other CUVs. That is apparently a very top tier option? Another place where Ford cut a corner that should be standard. The other would be "soft touch" materials in the cabin. See above. Washer nozzles on hood - will fail. replacements available easily. Easy enough to replace. The rest of the options are just what they are. Most of them are nice. I would have liked Bluetooth. I am still getting over my last car and tend to compare. The Edge is nice. The plastic will hopefully continue to hold up well. I know the soft stuff can start to come loose. The trans doesn't have manual shifting capabilities. No big deal if you are just people moving. THat's me. Moving people and objects. I have a motorcycle for thrills. The Edge is a tool for me. A nice tool, but a tool nonetheless. So hopefully that will help if you are looking. That's about all I can think of for now. I tried to "keep it real" because I know how it is when you are looking to buy a vehicle and want to know real world stuff. Randy
  9. Very late to the game here, but I would hope the other party's insurance helped pay your med bills. They should have liability? Which would cover your injuries and property damage. I went through a motorcycle crash 11 years ago and had to go through a lot of this stuff. I had good insurance from work at the time and the other ppl's insurance paid out too. Good luck getting on with life. It takes a while.
  10. Thanks for more tips folks. Ours had 94500 miles when bought. Oil looks new, fluids good. When spring gets here, will do more maintenance - plugs, etc. to try to get best possible out of it. On a recent trip (to grandmother's house we go - the Edge knew the way...) we achieved 23 or 24 mpg on the way down. Down to 22 by the time we got back. Still over 20 a week and a half later with lots of in town and some idling. It will never be the Aurora in so many ways. But it's okay. And bigger. The added space will make a HUGE difference on our annual sojourn to Clarksdale MS in June fully loaded with musical equipment. We take drum kit and hardware, guitar, 88 key electronic piano, 3 people and luggage for aweek. the aurora was a bit crowded. LOL. Edge should be better at that. And it is way more practical so far in other domestic pursuits as well. MPG can be lived with.
  11. It would have to be cheap. With that mileage, I would look at $5 - $6K max. Hopefully less. After looking for a few days, I stumbled across my2007 Edge with 94K miles and ended up at 9900 OTD, no crashes reported or eveidenced, new tires, everything reasonably clean. Not the best, but not a bad buy either I don't think. If you have to pay more than $6K, you may as well look at vehicles with less miles out there.
  12. I work for a man who was in the petroleum industry several years ago. back then, All the brands had their gas mixed in specific places. I/E. Exxon, Bp, Shell, et al made their mix at their big tanks after it came through the pipeline; then to the trucks to deliver to stations. But now, not so much. A truck is loaded with fuel. Then the additives are put in on the spot. Then it delivers a run of whatever brand is mixed. Same truck willl take a load of another brand tomorrow. Not sure I'd believe that there is more than a tiny difference in most brands. We do work for some oil companies that run several brands - Sunoco, BP, Marathon, Exxon. They work together to be able to buy bulk fuel so their prices stay reasonable. Some single store sites may have a difference, but then, the owner make take extra pains to make sure his gas is clean, filtered, etc. Or maybe it's all horse poop. most of the lower grades are not that different from brand to brand. THe Premium fuels have more additives to keep engines cleaner. The article referenced has some debate in the comments section over this point. The article does not state what grade of fuel was used in the test in the web article. Just that you should spend the money on "top tier" fuels. Is this even in 87 grade? Or just the premium with VPower or Invigorate or Whatever each brand calls theirs. My gas cap says Ford recommends BP gas. I bet it ain't cause Ford researched it and decided that brand was best. I bet some money wexchanged hands for that little BP logo (helios it's called) on each gas cap. BP probably footed the bill for the gas caps and more. But that's fine by me. there is BP near me that is competitve with every other station plus carries ethanol free for my bike and lawnmower. More the problem with ethanol blends is the effects is has on the fuel system. I worked for the state motorcycle training program as equipment manager and got to see first hand how bad ethanol blends are on carbs and such. In as short as a week, ethanol can start separating from the gas. If you own a small engine - weedeater up to motorcycle, either use ethanol free or drain the device when not in use for more than a week. How was the test conducted? 100 hours of idling is not same as 100 hours of high speed running. Again, I saw this in the motorcycle program job. Our bikes would be worn out in 3000 miles. Or less or more. depending on the maintenance at th e individual sites. But a class is let's say 12 hours of motorcycle running, no more than 25 mph. lots of time sitting in line at idle. That's a lot of hours but not a lot of miles. I've seen all kinds of stuff in the engines, valves, plugs, carbs, etc. Just my thoughts...
  13. Probably a lot of 2016 dealer use cars and lease cars coming off lease. Rentals that sell after a year, too. My last car was a rental for it's first year.
  14. Yes much better to be able to see out. I have been an MSF instructor for years and have been amazed at the things I see hanging from mirrors that would hide a minivan, much less a motorcycle. Pillars are the same - they can hide a lot, whether it is A, B, C or whatever. The big thing is that people learn to LOOK before moving. Know where your vehicle is in space and time. In relation to other vehicles and solid objects. As for hte B pillar in the Edge, I am getting more comfortable with it. It has a lot to do with seating position in the new vehicle compared to the old one (Olds Aurora). there was a learning curve with it as well: on the passenger side for me in the Olds and the shape of the windows. I adjusted and will with the Edge. just new objects in the sight lines.
  15. Yep, I'm liking it. As an aside, one of my blues friends is Bob Margolin. He was Muddy Waters guitar player in the 70s and early 80s. Bob is beside Muddy in "the Last Waltz". Thanks for sending that link. Always liked and respected Levon Helm for being a drummer and singer. I've done that myself. Randy
