  1. I second that sentiment. I have considered FWD for the very reason that you state. There is a lot to be said for simply slowing down in bad weather conditions. I also appreciate you comments on the 3.5 and the related transmission. There is a lot of value to dealing with time tested reliability IMO.
  2. Thank for the info on your 2016 Edge PTU. It is encouraging that the fluid looked at 28K. My question re the 3.5 vs the twin scroll is related to long term reliability. The 3.5 has a good track record but can't find much about the reliability of the twin scroll 4 turbo. We have the 3.5 in 2009 Mercury Sable that my wife still loves. It would be great to get a little better gas mileage from the 4 but i am weighing long term reliability fairly heavily. If I go with the Edge I will likely keep it quite a while. The vehicle it will replace is a 2003 Buick Rendezvous that only has 103,000 miles on it. For now I typically use rental cars for anything related to business that involves over 200 miles or so round trip. I had a 2015 Edge rental last year and really liked it. It was a 3.5. Thanks again for the info.
  3. Thanks for the feedback! How many miles did you get off the original PTU? Is you Edge 2nd generation......2015 forward? I live in Michigan and would strongly prefer AWD but the history of PTU problems 2007 to 2014 is a concerning. Thanks again!
  4. I have been considering Ford Edge. I am looking to keep this car quite some time as I am approaching retirement. I like the way the Edge looks but have some long-term reliability concerns. The AWD has a checkered track record. I have not been able to find any confirming information that the PTU issue has been laid to rest. I don't like surprises that can hit right around the time the warranty expires. I know that I can buy and extended warranty right out of the gate.....but would to prefer to go with another vehicle if it comes down to that. I can obviously avoid that issue by going FWD. Does anyone have any experience with FWD performance on snow? Also I have not been able to find any information on long-term reliability of the new 4 cylinder. I have a 3.5 in current vehicle and it runs like new at 82K miles (2009 Sable Premier). Will likely keep it as a second car. I know that 2018 is the last year of 3.5 in Edge. I am not interested in the 2.7. I am fine with with performance of the 4cyl. Durability is the question. Anyone have any thoughts on these quandaries?
