  1. Update: after a week in the shop they finally found the problem - there was a short in the fuse box. They replaced the fuse box and (hopefully) all is well.
  2. I'd forgotten about posting this topic in July. At that time I believe the accessories were still working, but can't remember for sure. The dealer said something like "water could have gotten into a connection somewhere", but I didn't buy it. According to them they went through all the electrical systems and couldn't find anything. The problem appeared to have been resolved, although IMO it sounds like a bad ignition switch. Not that I haven't been working on cars for 30+ years or anything.... :shades: This time around it's going to be a "fix it or replace it" scenario. I can't have my wife using an unreliable vehicle.
  3. Here's a good one: four times now our 2007 Edge has refused to turn off. Ignition switched turned off, key out of the switch, and the flippin' engine continues to run. The first time I was able to get it to shut off after messing with the Homelink buttons (figure that out.) The second time we had to take it to the dealer, who removed the battery to turn it off. Of course they could find nothing wrong. Today I call home and find out the !@#$ thing wouldn't start this morning - dead as a doornail. Then my wife tells me about the two other times when it wouldn't turn off - once when she was a couple hundred miles from home. Fortunately we have a good dealer: they brought her another Edge this morning as a temporary vehicle and took ours in to find out what's wrong with it. They promised to give it back only after they found the problem. Has anyone else encountered this? My wife is almost to the point where she's afraid to drive it.
  4. Thanks for the data, folks. Ours has been pulling to the right since day 1, but I forget about it because it's the wife's car. I find it really irritating. Is TSB # 07-7-6 what I should refer to when calling in for the repair?
  5. Yeah, in retrospect it was almost funny. She came walking into the den with the key held high saying, "The car won't turn off!" Hopefully it was a fluke and won't happen again. Otherwise someone's going to get an ear full....
  6. Well, we picked it up this morning. They said they looked for codes before they disconnected the battery and found nothing. They started/stopped it for the past three days and found nothing. Their only comment was, "Did you get it wet?" Yeah - if I ran it through a lake the connections may have gotten wet.... Apparently there have been reports of electrical malfunctions related to excess moisture.
  7. Those two items were my initial thoughts, too. The service manager told me they disconnected the battery to turn the engine off. I don't know if I believe that or not, although my '93 Mustang won't continue running if the battery is disconnected. Of course, disconnecting the battery wipes out the short-term computer codes....
  8. Well, we had an interesting time last week. On Monday the Edge wouldn't start. All the lights were lit on the dash, but no ignition - the starter wouldn't even turn. I was pushing a bunch of buttons and finished with pushing the Homelink buttons on the mirror (we have that factory option mirror.) Lo and behold, turn the key and the engine started. On Thursday my wife came home and the engine wouldn't shut off. She turned the ignition switch off, removed the key, shut the door, and the engine was still running. I messed with it to no avail. We took it to the dealer and they disconnected the battery to shut the engine off. They've had it since Thursday and of course can find nothing wrong. Has anyone had this problem? I'd hate to get on the road somewhere and have the !@#$ thing act up again.
  9. Try some clear or black silicone for sealing the holes. I'd put a dollop in each hole, spread a little around the outside of each hole, and some on the threads of each screw. That should seal it up nice & tight.
  10. After searching everywhere I could think of I called the dealer's parts department. The fellow I spoke with said he'd never heard of an FL-400-SB12, either, and that an FL-400S is the right filter for the Edge. Why the manual calls for the other is beyond me.
  11. I'm about ready to change my oil, but can't seem to find the right oil filter. The manual calls for a Motorcraft FL-400-SB12, but even the online Motorcraft catalog doesn't list them. I've seen FL-400S filters, but don't want to get into a pickle trying one and having it not fit.
  12. Has anyone found seat covers for the Edge? I'd like to get one for the back seat.
  13. Has anyone figured out how to remove the bezel around the radio ? It looks like it would just pop off, but I don't want to damage it. I want to mount a radar detector on top of the dash and run the wiring beneath the dash.
  14. My wife needed something big enough to carry her cat cages (she shows cats), but wanted more comfort and better gas mileage than provided by our 2003 4.0L Explorer. The Edge has a much better ride, with the seats folded down there's plenty of room for her stuff, it has more room in the front and rear seats than the Explorer, and she loves the styling. It's more powerful than the Explorer and she likes the "aggressive" look of the grille. She's also a nut for amethysts, so she had to have that Dark Amethyst. We had not seen one in that color and I was kidding her about driving a "grape"; but the paint is beautiful - almost black until the sun hits it, then it really pops with a rainbow of sub-hues.
