  1. Looking to buy a complete set of 4 - 20 inch rims and all season tires (including TPMS). Prefer factory rims and Scorpian STR rubber. Will consider aftermarket sets depending on cost. Will consider other ford 20" rims as long as they fit 2008 Ford Edge. Please no mangled or incomplete sets. Minimium 75% tread life on the tires. Please reply to post and I will contact you.
  2. Recently I added an electric winch that I can easily attached and remove from my 2008 Edge. My Edge came with the factory tow package and I modified a tow bar by welding a mounting bracket to it that allows the winch to be bolted on. Granted I can't use this set up for any serious extraction or as an aid for off roading. That isn't my intention. To date I have used it to date to pull a dock out of the water and to move some fallen (small) trees off the road blocking my way. The winch is rated for 2000lbs and I am careful to make sure I don't move anything more than 1000lbs pull weight. I kept it simple, for power for the winch I bring a deep cycle battery along so that I don't need to mess with the Edge wiring. So far its worked great and I gotten some interesting comments and looks from people passing by.
  3. The first time I had the PTU serviced (seals) on my 2008 Limied was at about 22,000KLM - 6 months, then again at 90,000klm- 17 months and now they are leaking again at 105,000KLM 22months. At no time have I manually engaged the AWD (turned off the traction control) and run it for an extended period. As a matter of fact I don't think the traction control has engaged automatically more than 30 times and when it did for only a couple of seconds. I am typically light on the throttle but like to zip along empty country highways. Rarely used in rougher conditions (only when I'm shore lauching the boat once twice a year). I beleive heat is a factor but not necessarily from use but rather from the exhaust pipe situated near by and by the more wider variance in temperature during the winter months. From very cold to normal operation temp and back to very cold. I beleive this results in more contraction and expansion than normal. All that movements blows the seals. I am no engineer but have fooled around with fixing, restoring maintaining cars for about 36 years. Just my opinion.
  4. Last week I took my 2008 AWD Edge up to Blue Mountains for some skiing and to try out the new snow tires. I decided this year to get a set of snows as the all season 20" tires that the Edge came with had over 115,000 KLM on them. Plus we have been getting lake effect snow coming down almost non stop north of Toronto for almost all of December and it looks like January will be no different. Since I'm not a fan of the plastic chrome covered factory rims I mounted my snows on them and plan to look for some new aftermarket rims in the spring. To say I was totally blown away how the Edge handled the snow, slush and ice with the Blizzack tires would be an understatement. No problem going down a unplowed road with about about 16" of snow on it and backing thru a mound of snow blocking the driveway into the cottage created by earlier passes by the plow. I have to admit that I started looking for tougher challanges to see what the Edge and snow tires could handle. Anyways it was fun, but after playing in the snow and getting back onto the plowed roadways I noticed that the Edge began to shake as if I had a flat tire (no indication of a flat on the TPM) and I knew I hadn't hit anything while driving thru the snow. To be honest it felt like all of a sudden all 4 tires had became unbalanced. Well that is exactly what happened, the gaps in the rims had filled with snow in various amounts and it was just enough to throw the wheels out of balance. Cleaned out the snow and the vibration deminished and once I washed the Edge it was totally back to normal. Now I will keep a small snow brush handy to clean out the rims after playing in the snow. Glad I have a Ford .... Edge! Cheers.
  5. Wow! The pictures of the dash display showing an average consumption of 32.6L/100klm or for our US friends 7.21MPG (US). The speed he is referring to and if I understand it correctly he travels at this rate often is 160 - 190KLM / HR or 100 to 118MPH. If he is from Canada I'd be curious where he finds the roads to do such speeds. I travel extensively thru out Ontario and there is few places you could sustain that kind of speed for more than 5 minutes. For his sake I hope it is a leased Edge as it will be run ragged soon. I also hope that no one I know ends up buying it used. Cheers
  6. Thanks for everyones input. A neighbor of mine has a 2008 Edge also so we took at his rear lights. The bulbs are 3057, unfortunately he didn"t buy new so we have no idea if they are factory installed. However he has had it for close to a year. A couple of observations: The bulbs showed some melting but nothing to drastic The bulb sockets where brownish but didn"t look like they have melted any Compared the brigtness to the 4157 bulbs in my Edge and couldn't see any difference (Mined you we checked during the day and the sun was shining) I've switched to the 3057 bulbs and will keep an eye on it. Anyone know if Ford might have gone to the 3057 or 3157 to reduce the melt factor? Thanks again. :shades:
  7. Ok, if this question has been dealt with previously I am sorry but couldn"t find the info. The rear brake/signal/light bulb burnt out (milky white inside of the bulb) and based on the owners quide book I bought 4157K replacement bulbs. When I removed the old (factory installed) original bulbs I noticed they are 3157K bulbs. Yes the socket had mild traces of melting but nothing I would consider a real issue. So here is my question.... What is the difference between the 3157K and 4157K bulbs? Can someone shine some light (pun intended) if the 3157K produces less heat than the 4157K? If I use the 4157K LL (Long Life) will this cause more damage to the socket than the regular 4157K or the 3157K? I've read the recommendations on using LED replacement bulbs and may consider it for the future. For now I am going to stick with the regular bulbs. So any enlightning (sorry another pun) info on the 3157 vs 4157 bulb question. Thanks in advance for any insight :shades:
  8. I had the same problem, the dealer checked everything and also found nothing wrong. Repeat 2 more times. Figured I'd give it a go. Cleaned the battery terminals, wire connections and reinstalled. (They actually seemed loose when I first took a look.) Cleaned the the top of the battery of dirt. I now check this every cople of months and no problems since. Could be my maintenance or luck. either way the Edge starts every time now. (Knock on wood)
  9. I have a 2008 AWD LTD Edge and like you live in the Toronto area. My work takes me basically from London to the west, Kingston to the east and Sault St. Marie to the north. Most of the time I can adjust my travel to miss really major storms. I currently have the factory installed Pierelli Scorpion tires with 20" rims and have not had any problems. This past New Years weekend you may recall they closed HWY 26 thru Stayner to Barrie due to drifting snow and ice. I made my way home on the back roads and had no problems. Oh yea by the way I had about 72K kilometres (43K miles) on the tires. To boot the AWD only came on when I intentionally stepped on the gas harder. To those who are not familiar, the area I'm talking it about is commonly referred to the snow belt area of Ontario. When it comes time for new tires on my Edge I'm planning to stay wuth the Scorpions. Besides, we will be soon planting palm trees due to global warming in Toronto. Hope this helps. Congratulations on your purchase of the Edge. :shades:
  10. I had that happen to my 08 AWD, (with BAMR) I hooked up the jumper cables and it started no problem. Went straught to the dealer and they took me right in. The Edge was just about 8 months old and of course they could find no problems. The battery, alternator etc... checked out fine. The dealer ended up replacing the battery anyways (under warranty) with a higher AMP rated unit and no problems since. One thing the machanic did point out is that the battery terminals where loose and corroded more than would be expected at only 8 months. I got the feeling he had seen this before. So now I keep an eye on the terminals and no problems. By the way this was one great dealer, fixed my PTU leak first time, looked after any problems, questions promptly, I got my Edge back washed and vacuumed (even if only doing an oil change), knowledgable techs. Unfortunately they shut down. I guess either Ford downsizing (independanht dealer) or tough times. Either way I'm out a great service dealer. Hope your dealer solves your problem.
  11. I hope I'm not repeating a topic already posted previously but a search didn't bring up any results about the problem I am having. The little rubber tray at the top of the dash is discolouring. I started to show "brownish" marks so I thought maybe something I had put in the tray rubbed off and left something behind. So I washed it out with some mild dish soap and water and now the entire rubber has turned "brownish' Atleast the top side has, the underneath of the tray is still black. Has anyone else run into this or know if the tray can fade from sunlight. I am goint to try either Armour All or Black Back to see if it helps. I would appreciate any other input or advise before I potentially make matters even worse. Thanks
  12. I replaced both my low and high beam bulbs with Sylvania aftermarket bulbs (finding H11 bulbs was hard) 2 weeks ago and I have had no problems. As I drive alot on smaller winding highways I appreciate the extra illumination. As for problems I'm not anticipating any and more importantly they work fine with the day time running light set-up.
  13. Sorry about the delay updating after having my Edge services but work tied me up. Here goes: - the loss or drop in coolant was not caused by leakage, so it had to be evaporation. This I assume would be considered normal. - I also had them check the PTU for leakage as it was serviced 25K miles ago, everything was dry. I basically had them do a once over in detail from inspecting the engine, trans, suspension etc... including checking the wheel balance when they rotated the tires as I drive about 32K miles a year. The mileage is probably 70% highway and I tow my boat (launch and pull out) just about every weekend. The final report "no problems" found. My 2008 Edge Limited AWD seems to be running better and smoother now then when I first got it. Other than some minor warranty work, no problems. Best vechicle we have had in a long time. Oh yea, the plastic chrome rims are discolouring, don't care after using them in the snow this winter I am replacing the rims with true "custom" rims and the plastic ones will be used for snow. Peter
  14. Sorry, I thought I had mentioned that it is down from the cold level mark. I check my fluid levels about every 2500 miles and this is the fist time I noticed that there was a drop. I also checked to see if any was added during the regular service visits to my dealer. Unless they added it for free it looks like the resevoir wasn't topped up and the box was check marked indicating it was inspected and ok. So now I'm getting a little worried, no puddle underneath, no visible leaks, no hot antifreeze smell and most importantly no antifreeze froth on the oil dip stick. Where is it going? I am hoping it maybe the result of towing my boat and the engine maybe running a tad hotter resulting in evaporation. Note: The Edge is equipped with the factory tow package. I also checked again and its down just a tad more that an inch from the cold level mark. My estimate was off. Next service this Friday. I'll keep everyone posted
  15. I hope I'm just over reacting, but when I went to check do a quick check of my fluid levels last weekend I noticed that my coolant level was showing a decline for the first time since purchasing my Edge Sept. 2008. I have put about 35K miles on it in the 13 months. We are not talking a huge drop but from the "level" it should be cold, the resevoir is down about 2 inches. Is this normal? Has anyone experienced leaks in the coolant system? I have not seen any drips under the engine or detected a smell of coolant evaporating off the engine. Its going in for oil/filter etc... later this week and wouldn't mind a heads up on possible coolant/leak issues. Thanks
