I hope they have given you a loaner that is nicer than your Edge.  I don't blame you for being upset.  I'd be curious to look up the OASIS SYNC history, sent me your VIN in a PM if you don't mind.

The first loaner was a 2020 Escape SE which ran smooth and quick with the 1.5L, second loaner was a fully loaded Edge SEL (I drive a SE) and that was awesome with leather seats and panoramic roof, and the recent loaner is another Escape SE but this one has bad engine vibration at idle.

I'm now back in my Edge until the Sync engineers figure something out.

If you still end up needing it rolled back to 3.3, I have the files and can do a custom installation package.

Care to explain? I have the 4" screen, not the 8". How'd you get ahold of the 3.3 file for the 4" and "custom installation"?

Right now my Edge is still with the dealer. If they can't fix it or want to charge me for some reason, I'll reach out.

  3. I am not too worried. I come from the Focus ST world, where "OMG the tune blew up my engine" is a daily occurrence. I still tuned my FoST after researching.

And the person in that thread was running a custom block/turbos. That's apt to fail without a dyno tune. Livernois is considered one of the most reliable tunes for the Ecoboost platform as far as my research goes. My buddy had them on his 3.5eco and beat the ever living hell out of it with zero issues. He now runs 5Star on his new 2.7 eco, and still beats the hell out of it lol.

My engine is stock, other than the exhaust and drop in filter so I'm not too worried. Livernois has been responsive to my emails and addressed my concerns before I went with the tune.

Getting a tune is always going to be a risk, no matter what vehicle it is. I've had a tuned WRX snap a transmission at 37k due to too much torque (custom protune with Cobb AP), no issues with my 3.6 Charger for 80+K miles on a Hemifever tune (Diablosport), some pinging that was later fixed on my 2008 3.7 Jeep JK with Superchips, no issues with my Focus ST in the 26k I've had it tuned with Freektune (Cobb AP), and so far about 8k on the Edge with Livernois. Every single vehicle, I've worried about and stay on top of monitoring (warming up to 175 degrees or more before hitting boost), gas octane from reputable top tier stations (not Costco, BJs, or any other cheapo gas), and spark plug maintenance.

It's all up to the consumer whether or not they are willing to live with the risk. I personally don't think tunes are made for people to just plug in and forget about (like my buddy with the F150 running Costco gas-- I'm amazed it's still kicking). Being diligent in keeping up with your maintenance and taking care of your vehicle is key.

As for that link with the probation -- it doesn't seem to be an issue with tunes for most, but customer service was lacking. I haven't had any issues with their support from Anthony. Most of these people with issues are running the 6 speed transmission with the 3.5 Ecoboost with "heavy mods".

  4. A few more months on this tune, and I am greatly pleased with it still. I drove a 2020 Escape 1.5L loaner and a 2020 Edge SEL. Their transmission mapping does give them similar low end off the line pep, but they fall flat once the go pedal is pushed. As for me with the tune, I get pep all through the rev range. Stepping on it at 35mph induces torque steer still, and I chuckle every time because my Focus ST did the same thing and I'm driving a much heavier vehicle with AWD.

Stock, highest boost spike I ever saw was 17psi and it holds steady at 15.5-16 when gunning it. With the tune, I saw a spike to 22psi once (usually 20) and it holds 18-19 when gunning it.

At partial acceleration (passing someone on a city road), stock would go up to maybe 4psi. Tune will go up to 10-12psi. It definitely is upping the boost at all revs without being too much. It's a nice feeling to be able to modulate the acceleration with the go pedal instead of waiting on the transmission to "catch up".

Cruising stock at 60mph and lightly pressing the pedal will accelerate very slowly around 6psi. Tuned will actually accelerate harder at 12psi in the same gear, depending on how much you press the gas. 60 becomes 72 rather effortlessly. Step on it, and you'll be at 90+ before you know it.

Note : I am not an aggressive driver by nature and abide by all laws. This is purely stretching the Edge's legs out. I drive less aggressively than that grandma in her spanking new Prius. :) It's just that the tune greatly improves daily driving quality for me (20%/80% city/highway).

  5. Results : The transmission is greatly improved, and I am detecting a lot more low end "pep". Shifts are not as smooth as the 2020 loaner, but it is still a marked improvement over what it was. On the 2020, you couldn't even feel it shift at all. On mine, you can feel it shift but it isn't as "harsh". Popped my tune back on, and shifting is hard again (but still better than before). It's interesting... when gunning it, the transmission upshifts "softly" instead of knocking you back in your seat like it usually does.

When I picked up my Edge from the dealer, I paid some more attention to boost levels on my Ultragauge. Before the flash, the transmission was trying to upshift so early that my boost levels for normal acceleration was around 2 to 3 psi. Now that it carries the revs a little higher, I'm getting 5 to 7 psi on normal acceleration. It does seem that the new mapping has the transmission holding boost and revs a little higher before it shifts, so when it does upshift... it will be in the "meaty range" instead of falling flat.

Tested low speed turns in which the transmission was notorious for bogging and lugging the engine, and it still does it for a split second. It now upshifts as soon as the gas is pressed slightly, instead of lugging and bogging until up to speed/or forcing an upshift with heavy pressing of gas pedal (no more flat spot in the torque range).

I can't seem to find the paperwork with the TSB number, and my maintenance history on MyFord doesn't have any dealer notes. I'm sure the paper is somewhere, as we've been moving a bunch of stuff around to clear out the basement which is where my office is.

All in all - it depends on the adaptive learning, as the transmission will learn over time. Let's see what happens over time.

EDIT : Found the TSB number. It is 19-2331. Don't have a document for it, just a dealer note saying "Flashed TSB 19-2331 to address harsh shifting"

  6. I have a 2019 SE with no fog lights. I drove a SEL with fog lights, and they were not that great.

I'm spoiled by the Morimoto fog lights I used to have on my Subaru, and I'd love to add some sort of setup to my 2019. Anyone mount fog lights anywhere on their 2019+ Edge? I thought about putting them where the intercooler opening is, but I don't want to block airflow.

Basically I want more light on the road in front of me with a wider spread. It sucks that I can't just swap out the factory LED headlights for HID bulbs easily.

  7. I have a 2019 Edge SE with the basic 4" sync and no subwoofer (6 speaker system). As I'm deaf, I'd like to add some more bass to the driver's seat area. So I was looking at an under seat subwoofer.

How would I go about adding one of these (perhaps a MTX TN8MS) to the stock Sync system? I haven't done any head unit/subwoofers/amps since my 1995 Jeep Cherokee, which was a heck of a lot simpler.

  8. Yeah. I only tried the Cyanlab version because the official update from Ford "broke" my Sync. Even after a new APIM, it still does the same thing.

And I've tried to look everywhere online for the 3.3 file, but can't seem to locate it at all as it was included OEM for the 2019 Edge. I can find files for the older version of the 4" sync, but I don't want to risk running that on mine. I have a feeling the hardware is different, which is why there are different file versions (EG: Older 4.6 vs Newer 3.4.20136). The only place I know that has 3.3 is Cyanlabs, but as you saw in my picture, that doesn't work as it's made for the 8" screen. As of right now, I'm just gonna have to deal with it and wait until an opportune time to have the dealer run their "diagnostics" on it.

CyanLabs can help you downgrade if that's what you want.

The thing is that they work specifically with the 8" Sync3. I'm using the 4" Sync with MyFord (non touch). I did send them a message to see if they can provide the download link for the 3.3 (4").

It's dumb that both the 8" and 4" Sync get the exact same file version named Sync3 Version 3.4.20136. I tried using Cyan's version and that produced interesting results. See it here: http://imgur.com/a/5euph9Y

  10. Update : Even though the update for my Sync was an official one from Ford, the dealer said that I need a new APIM. I've heard of this happening over the years. You'd think that Ford would be able to fix this without having to replace the APIM.

I sure miss my Edge, and will be without it for a few days. At least I get to play with the Sync3 3.4 in the 2020 Escape loaner I have. I'm surprised at how peppy that 1.5L Inline 3 is.

  11. I updated to Sync 3.4 on my 4.2" Sync with My Ford. It seems to be a little buggy. Whenever I start the car, it defaults to the radio screen (but the radio is not on), when engine is powered off and before the door is opened it will switch between day and night mode randomly, when turning off the radio it will flash the screen with the previous one several times before settling in the clock screen.

Wonder if anyone has the old update file for 3.3 that I can try to downgrade to? Remember, this is not for the 8" Sync 3.

I've done the reset, etc etc and was wondering if someone had the file so I can try downgrading before having to take off work to go to the dealership.

  12. OK. Another update here: Using the Cyanlabs sync update does not work with the 4.2" screen at all!! It did install the 8" touch screen version and the results were... interesting.  I couldn't do anything on the Sync. Fortunately I had the Ford website version saved, so I installed that again. Screen now went blank, radio volume worked, and reverse camera worked. That's it.

The only way I could get it working again was to pull Fuse 33 for the Radio under the footwell. And now it's back to the same initial glitchy mess. I just flashed it again with a new USB drive and let's see what happens.

I may have the dealer check it out regardless, just in case that blank screen wasn't just a fluke.
