How did it go. Did it fix your issue? Mines still working flawless.

Yes.  The part arrived Friday and I installed it right away.  Very easy install, took about 20 minutes.  Has worked every single time since. Challenged it with the push button inside, key fob, button on door handle, “wave of the foot”. We were out and about this weekend and I popped it every time we stopped and got out of the vehicle.  Flawless.
Thanks for the tip. The wife is very happy.

Ok. I ended up buying the lock on ebay for 90$. Took me 25 minutes to throw it in. Fixed my issue. Just so everyone knows.

Can you provide the part number or Amazon link?  Is yours a Titanium model?

    Hello all,

Oh happy day, I finally have a working power liftgate again! I finally took my Edge in for the recall on the front flexible brake hose and I took it to a different dealership in my area and asked them to run a diagnostic on the liftgate as it was still not working and draining out my battery.

Before this we tried replacing the hydraulic lifts, did not resolve the problem; we tried replacing the control module, did not work but after this step I was able to use the lift manually, before that step it was completely useless.

The Ford tech updated the RTGM module which I asked another dealership if this could be the problem but the lazy butts did not bother to from the diagnostic as requested. Ford released SSM 49914 (TSB?) in June of 2021 acknowledging this issue.

I hope this helps everyone that is still struggling with this issue.

@Virtualtracy,Thanks for responding back with this update. I plan to call my local Ford Dealer today.
For those interested, my liftgate still does the shrug probably 20% of the time. When it does I have to crawl in and open with the small screwdriver trick. After many trips to the dealer it’s been extremely frustrating to say the least.

  4. My battery is about 1.5 yo. I haven’t had any issues starting the vehicle (except when “rear gate ajar” drained the battery). I even put a battery charger on it to see if more power would help but it still had the same issues.

I solved mines I think. Weak 2 year old battery. Had a AGM battery that was low on voltage. Never suspected it since it was 2 years old.  But did notice it was cranking slower than usual. Finally killed it one day when I left the radio on without running the.engine for like 25 minutes. Figured change it since that how long my batteries last. And after swapping it out,  trunk opens up everytime.

  5. Lou, I went to the left menu and selected to disable.

Settings / vehicle / power liftgate / disable switch

one additional note, when you hold up on the button in the rear to release the latch, you may need to keep it pressed for a few seconds. Then the hatch should “pop”open but doesn’t lift. You will have to lift it manually.

  6. I’ve noticed my manual open with a screwdriver only works when the latch has tried to open and jams. If it is in the fully locked position then it can’t be triggered. Just my observation.
Make sure the screwdriver is no wider than a 1/4”.

  7. Thanks DaMiFo. Unfortunately I took the module back out when it didn’t fix the problem.  Will need to see if I can get back, install and program.

On my the bright side, thanks to Virtualtracy for the mention of disable and use the liftgate manually. Doesn’t solve the issue but at least it made the hatch accessible.

Not likely but at 86K you'll definitely feel a difference if you just change the trans fluid.  There's nothing to be afraid of, it's actually easier than an oil change.  Slide an aluminum turkey pan under the car, remove the 11mm plug, replace the plug when drain is complete, measure the amount that came out and put the same amount back in.  Go for a drive long enough to heat the trans fluid completely (at least 30 minutes) then check the level.  Adjust as necessary based on dip stick reading.  If you notice a difference do that again at least 2 times.  Done!

Makes sense. I’ll do it in the next week or so and report back.

Your latest description has me wondering, have you ever changed transmission fluid?

Ford recommends a change somewhere north of 100,000 miles but many Edge owners have found a h/ard or jerky shift is eliminated with a much earlier change.  Three drain and fill cycles gets all of the old fluid out (about half is trapped in the torque converter) and new fluid in.  Owners report an immediate improvement after a single drain and fill.
You might want to give that a try.  Each drain/fill cycle will take about 5 quarts of Mercon LV.

Edit to add: You do have Sport mode.  It's the gearshift position the furthest from Park, below Drive.  When pulled back to Sport mode your shift points will be higher and your throttle is more responsive.  The transmission shifts itself as usual unless you use the paddle shifters.  Once you've used then in Sport mode all shifting has to be done with the paddles until you shift back to Drive.

Okay. I’m definitely putting it in drive them and not sport. I do have the paddle shifters on the steering wheel but don’t use them.

The vehicle has 86,000 miles on it but I’ll look into the oil change. Thanks.

It does not sound normal, as what @akirby stated above. You could try to disconnect the vehicle's battery for ~10 minutes so it will re-learn the adaptive parameters and see if it helps.

I’ll give it a shot in the next couple days.

The biggest issue is the “hair trigger” throttle. Try to ease it down and the car still jumps and during acceleration becomes jittery.

Not how adaptive learning works.  It adjusts shift pressure to keep performance within factory spec.  It doesn’t adjust to driving styles.

This makes sense. I drive pretty easy (most of the time).  Hopefully someone will have some insight on how to make this jerky upshot smooth out a bit. I love and have loved for years the vehicle. Would jus appreciate something that feels like the old smooth acceleration of my V8 youth. I don’t care much about gas mileage.
