  1. We just came from a short 6 hr road trip and though it's a relatively new vehicle, '08 Ford Edge, man it was hard listening to tunes comfortably...and Sirius Satellite radio discussions ?...very annoying having to crank it and then turn it down, crank it, then turn it down, etc... And conversations when sitting in the back seat were often difficult to hear clearly. Anyone had success with any of the sound deadening products out there such as Hushmat or even better a cheaper alternative from Home Depot/Lowes/Canadian Tire etc...?
  2. This is one of those things that when you take it to the dealer, they'll just roll their eyes and do nothing. I can see it now. But, at 20k mileage now, my Edge AWD has an "eccentric" sound that corresponds to the rpm/rotation of the engine/wheels. Especially around 80 to 90 km per hour. It's barely there, but, I definitely can feel it. I feel like I'd like to nip this in the bud before either one of the wheels wears unevenly or before something more serious starts to occur but I have absolutely no confidence in dealership service or their "advisors." The first time I took it to the dealership for the free oil change, it took three hours. Of course, I have never gone back and I feel that this was done exactly for this purpose. What would you guys do ?
  3. Is there a way of knowing where these Edge's with these myriad of problems were manufactured ? Maybe we should have a section of the forum dedicated to known Ford Edge issues, when & where they were manufactured, and, the kind of service that people have received to correct these issues ?
  4. Well, isn't that wierd. Hmm...it might have been the "Focus" and not the "Fusion" that I was admiring : http://www.ilhaverde.com/grupoQ.html These model names are very confusing. Well, I understand that you may admire the Edge, I do too. I own one. But, the gas consumption is not exactly stellar. Considering the gas was 1.50 Euro per litre in Portugal, I would also have opted for a more economical model. Btw, it might be very interesting for you guys to note that the Forda Fiesta we rented was excellent on fuel mileage while the VW Polo was not only quite the "pos" but also was a gas hog in comparison. The Ford vehicle was by far-and-away the better vehicle in every regard.
  5. My wife and I were recently on vacation in Europe and, as usual, we rented various vehicles, in different areas of Europe. We were in Euorpe years ago and rented an Opel Vectra and we loved it. But, this year, we were very, very impressed by the Euro designs. The Ford Fiesta & Ford Fusion are totally different than they are over here. http://www.ford.co.uk/ The Opel (GM) Corsa, Opel vehicles in general were really beautifully designed. Other vehicles from Renault, Peugeot, etc...were equally beautifully designed. Almost all were hatchbacks or wagons which are so practical, but, were so sleek and sporty. We just don't see these kinds of designs over here. If GM were just to use the design team from Opel/Europe, I think they would immediately rebound from disaster.
  6. Anybody know if you can shut off that stupid extra wipe when washing the windshield ? My windshield is quite scratched already and the extra wipe is definitely the culprit because of the directional scratching following the windshield wiper line. I mean how lazy are we all getting that if the windshield needs an extra wipe that we can't just reach for the windshield wiper switch ?
  7. I don't think it's a wheel bearing. I usually am in the driver's seat in my Ford Edge, but, I was a passenger in the back seat on a rather long drive home and was very surprised at the amount of road noise when sitting in the back. I had a hard time hearing normal conversation at highway speed. So, I removed the cover, spare tire etc..... and there is absolutely no insulation back there. It's just painted metal separating the back seat passenger from road noise. Very surprising !...and somewhat disappointing, considering how well built the rest of the vehicle is. Being a recording studio owner, I'm sure the Dynamat stuff would help a little bit, but, you have to remember that sound is like water. The barrier must be air tight to really be effective. If Dynamat is thick and heavy it will help. Mass is good !
  8. Just curious, what was the size of the trailer ? lbs ?
  9. We were way up north in a remote area fishing and everytime I un-locked the doors using the key-fob the front headlights would come on blinding other campers (not to mention the unnecessary battery drain in a very remote area) I consulted the manual, but, I could not find a setting that ONLY unlocked the doors without triggerring the headlights. Any ideas (other than clipping the wires as my father-in-law wanted to do.. ) Thanks
  10. Yep, mine is an '08 AWD and I notice the same clunky behaviour. It's almost as if a "clutch" is pushed in and then when you step on the gas a little the clutch is "released" rather too quickly/abruptly. It's particularly noticeable at very low speeds and coasting. My service rep said that there is a "PCM" Pxx something 'er other adjustment. Somehow, after sitting and waiting 2 hours for them to change the battery and oil I don't have much confidence. A pit crew they're not.
  11. You know, I was thinking that this may be related to the A/C. Only because my old Dodge Caravan, toward the end of it's days, would make a clunk like this during a cold start. The Dodge's A/C was long gone by this time though, but, it still made horrible noises during a cold start. A clunk, followed by whistling, followed by whining, then a bit of a settling down. Should this problem on the Edge be looked at/corrrected ?
  12. Yes, the oil level is fine, although, I noticed that the engine compartment in general, is more "oiley" than I would think would be normal (for a brand new car) with the hoses appearing to have a tiny bit of oiley residue on them. It could be winter muck but hmm...something is leaking somewhere a tad. Anyway, even if the oil level was down, that would not produce a such a sharp attack type sound. This is something else.
  13. My Edge is practically brand spankin' new with only 2000 km on it. Twice now, I've noticed a very sharp metallic snap only on a completely cold start, as if something engages badly, with a clank, and then it's gone. Once the car has run, the noise does not re-occur on any start-ups until another completely cold start. Anyone have any ideas what this could be ?
  14. I just purchased and receive my '08 Edge AWD and, so far, so very, very good. Both my wife and I are very impressed with the car. Quiet, tight, nice ride and excellent performance. But, how is the Edge over the longer term ? Is it still nice and tight ? No rattles ? Some observations from owners with older Edge's out there would be appreciated.
  15. Just got ours today. What a beauty....and what a difference from the ol' Dodge Grand Caravan (or the new one we test drove for that matter) :hyper:
